Carol and Ray discussed her birth plan, Ray’s plans about surrogacy or adoption and business. These two women were a power house all on their own. They wouldn’t need anyone else so long as they have each other and supported each other. The guards in the room, despite not knowing what was being discussed much, were impressed with these two young women. As Carol was walking out of the building with Tyler, she called up Mr. Baker. She needed an update about her divorce before making the final treck home. She waited for the phone call to go through and when it did, she asked, “So how did the meeting go with my soon to be ex?” Mr. Baker was ecstatic “Miss, he signed the papers and allowed me to file the same day. I do not know what caused his sudden change of heart. He said to tell you, ‘thank you and be well wherever you are. Grandma gave me the kick I needed to understand things.’ Anyway you will be divorced after the waiting period is over. I’ll send copies to the address you provided. Is there anything else I can do for you Miss Stone?” Carol was relieved and happy that James came to his senses and signed the papers. Now they both can move on and be free. He would never have to know about the baby growing in her. She’ll not even list him as the father on the baby’s birth certificate. She was born Carol Stone, for two almost three years she was Carol Robington and now she will be Sesi Káltsa. Life was definitely interesting with the hand she was dealt. Will she be able to win the jackpot in the end? She told Tyler of the good news on their way to the house. Then texted Ray. He was happy for her and wanted to help her in her plans to give birth away from the city. Hey, if mothers can choose to give birth at home with doula’s or have emergencies where first responders gave birth, why couldn’t she do it out there so long as someone was with her who knew what to do? The short week she has been at the McKenna home she felt more like the little sister he wished to have. If she wanted to give birth at her grandma’s camp, she should. Carol made plans to fly out that night and spend time in a hotel waiting for a doctor appointment so she can get an idea how big her child was and what she would need spending most if not all her pregnancy in the wild. She couldn’t sit still and she was thrilled to finally set foot on her motherland for the first time since leaving for college. She wonders how much her home state changed since she left. She asked Aina tips on traveling by air while pregnant. She was a source of knowledge and help. Traveling north under her new name was simple and easy. She had a few curious people ask what language her name was and what it ment. She easily answered each one as if it had been her name all along. Káltsa is hard for the average person to say so she tells people to just call her Sesi. Her name literally meant ‘Snow Fox’ and it was unique. Carol knows she did well mixing her grandma and her own native name. Snow foxes are easily adaptable, they camouflage from season to season and thrive in scarce times. Most Snow foxes are generally found in open terrain where there are no trees and navigate snow drifts. Once she landed in Anchorage, it was easy to find a hotel and book an appointment for Monday morning for confirming pregnancy and consulting an OBGYN doctor about her plans. To the lower 48, Anchorage was on the larger side of a small city. Around 250,000 people. For Alaskans that is large, for the rest of America it is small. However, only her family knew she was flying home and she would contact them once she was settled. She dropped her bag off in the room and took a shower to unwind from the flight. After she was out and ready to handle her family she called them up to tell them what hotel she is in. Then she waited, which was nerve wracking. No one here knew she was pregnant. She wasn’t sure if it was safe to tell them while still in New York and wasn’t sure if her now ex in-laws were tapping her families phone lines. Now that the divorce was signed and knows her ex wouldn’t look for her, she felt safe to tell them. Besides, a new member of the family should be an in person conversation…. Right? Carol sighed and fretted, not knowing how her family would react to the news of being uncles/grandma. Waiting to find out isn’t all that great. She hopes her relatives will help where they can and support her. Suddenly there was a knock on her hotel room door. She took a deep breath and opened the door to her mom, Jessica and her three brothers; Travis, Phillip and Frank Jr. Jessica was a Native woman through and through. Long black hair, brown eyes, brownish skin, standing around 5’ tall weighing about 150lbs. She had laugh lines around her mouth and at the moment a serious face. Travis was built tall and broad, smiles all around with a beard growing with his long hair, he was a light shade of brown. Enough you can tell his Native heritage but not too brown either. Phillip was on the taller side but not overly tall. He stood at 5’9'' and weighed about 180lbs. He had a little longer than a buzz cut and no facial hair. Being military there wasn’t much he could do to support his native side besides tattoos with native symbols and beliefs; which he kept hidden under his clothes. Then there was Frank Jr. Who was the closest with their mother and believed everything she said. He could have gone into wrestling or something. He was more broad than tall. Standing at 5’7” and weighed 190lbs. Carol guesses he eats more during meals because he is out mining most of the day. He too didn’t grow his hair out, believing it too much if it was long. So it sat around his ears all messy, he was more brown than pale, but a shade lighter than their mother. Carol was happy to see them all after so long apart, even her mother who was almost estranged. Carol never knew why her mother had a problem with her. However, Jessica never showed her favoritism in front of other people. They all hugged and then sat around the room where they could. Carol stood there next to the door and looked at them all. She took a deep breath then explained everything. The contract marriage, how her in-laws were icy to her to her present situation of being pregnant, divorced and basically in hiding. She just left out the Robingtons being in bed with the Bratva family. She signed an NDA after all and it isn’t like her family will understand the legal jargon of NDA’s and such. After everything she could legally say was out in the open she shifted from foot to foot waiting for them to say/do anything. Then suddenly Travis stood up and hugged Carol. Soon her other brothers did the same but Jessica stayed seated. Carol kept her eyes on her mother wondering what was going through her head while her brothers fussed. Then Jessica stood up with a scowl and shouted “So you disgraced the family name with divorce? You will bring a child into this world out of wedlock? What next? p**********n!?” The boys were shocked that their own mother said such things. However Carol was expecting something similar to this. She didn’t like knowing that her child wouldn’t have an active grandparent around but knew Jessica wouldn’t approve. “Mom, that is not how you react to news of you being a grandma!” Travis was quick to defend Carol. After all, he is in the business of human traffic to bring people to better futures. “Mom, she explained why she had to leave that family. Do you want your grandchild to grow up a robot with no mind of their own? I think Carol did the right thing by not telling them and divorcing them.” Phillip also gave his two cents. Junior didn’t like conflict so tried to calm his mom down. “Mom calm down, it sounds like sis had her reasons and she has a plan. She won't be struggling or neglecting this kid.” Hearing her golden child, Jessica did take a deep breath and sat back down. “You said you are in hiding, what does that mean exactly? Did you bring trouble to our doorstep?” Jessica wasn’t happy but she wasn’t shouting anymore. Carol rubbed her temple but replied to all questions. “Divorce is common these days and the Native people believed in it before white people came here. Don’t preach at me about disgracing the family name. Being a single parent is also more common and accepted today than it was back in the day. However our native people still believed in it so long as the child was cared for and provided for. No, I will not sell my body for cash or surface gratification. I have a business idea that is already under way. Yes, in a sense I am in hiding. I have legally changed my name from Carol Stone to Sesi Káltsa to make it harder for the Robingtons to find me. No, there is no trouble coming. I got word yesterday that my ex had signed papers freeing me. It is just precaution just in case.” The boys understood everything she said and agreed with her. They agreed they will help keep her secret and use her new name. Jessica wanted to be mad but found she couldn’t. “You used mom’s name? You are honoring your grandma?” Carol only nodded at her but was wary around her. Then Jessica hit her with another question. “How far along are you? Have you seen a doctor yet?” This made the boys stop what they were doing to look at Carol too. Curious to know when their niece or nephew would arrive. Carol replied, “I am around 12 weeks along… Boys, that is about 3 months. I haven’t seen a doctor about it yet because I didn’t want it showing in my medical chart. Like I said, the Robingtons have money and friends who could get information for them. Legal or illegal they wouldn’t care so long as it is information. Anyway, before traveling to the village, I have a doctor’s appointment on Monday morning. I’ll have most if not all answers about the baby then.” Jessica just nodded but kept quiet after that.
