It is now November, the states are getting ready for their holiday of Thanksgiving. He learned of this through his time in the states doing business. While others are getting ready for football and a big feast. Mikhail is busy dealing with the families and finding the Ivanof siblings.
“What have you found that is useful?” Mikhail was in Seattle smoothing out a few things for his businesses. Currently he is on the phone with Maksim to see if there was anything new with the Ivanof’s.
“Just that we found all available entrances to the tunnels and put a camera on each with a motion sensor. We are trying to track down their mother. See if she will give up information.” Mikhail replied without pause. Mikhail can hear the clicking away of a keyboard.
He rubbed his temples feeling a headache forming. He just wants the siblings found already. Mikhail would like to know where they are, how they wish to overthrow the family and once they have power, what their plan would be? Besides revenge, what would they gain from being top dog in Russia? They talked a little longer about traps and interrogations. They haven’t fished out all the traitors yet.
As he hangs up he looks over the plans for his club. He has a list of members, guards and people who would work behind the scenes. People who would man the camera’s, clean rooms, background checks and more. Everything looks good so far. It seems the traitors are all in Russia. No one who works for him in the states has betrayed them yet. The work is getting done, no one is trying to skip out on products or money. Everyone is accounted for. This makes Mikhail think.
So far, everyone with the bratva in America is loyal. The locals and those who traveled here from home. He drummed his fingers on the table, an idea forming. He decided to do something similar with the clubs in all cities he runs here in the states. Which means he will need people to work those clubs. People who would be trusted to make sure all is running smoothly and those on property are safe. What if he started bringing the trusted people here to run the businesses for him? It would give his people an insensitive to be and stay loyal.
If he went through this with his other cities, business would go up. He would have trusted people here. However he can’t have ALL his trusted people leave Russia. He would need people to stay behind to help him clean up and keep up operations.
Mikhail called Demitri and talked to him about his idea about bringing some trusted people to America for the clubs and other businesses he is opening. Of course not everyone will leave Russia, but a good number of people. They talked at length about it, who would be on the list and who would be needed still in Russia.
Demitri isn’t sure who would want to go to America, but then again there are people who would like a fresh start away from bad memories and bad situations. The traitors families for one, would probably benefit from being in America working the businesses.
Mikhail left the list making and all to his brother and Maksim. They are the ones doing the interrogations and questioning. They would know who would do well here and who would be vital back home. So he focused more on making sure everything is on time. The legit business seems to be coming along. The construction on the club is coming along well and it seems to be on time. He should be able to open in January if there isn’t any hiccups.
Then he called up the people he left in charge in his other cities and told them to be on the lookout for a building that could be useful. He doesn’t care what they are now, just that they are in areas that doesn’t have much surveillance. The property is relatively large and he could buy it quickly. Price is no issue. He would also need a good construction crew for each property. His people got right to looking. He told them he wants to turn the properties to b**m clubs. It helps his people figure out the best property to forward to the boss. Construction crews are easy to figure out once they know what the property would be used for.
Mikhail felt good with all his work. A lot has been figured out and processed. Some things he couldn’t control like the Ivanof’s but the loyalty of his people and rewarding them, he can. He has done a lot, he made choices for a few things and he is waiting on word for a few properties to see if they fit his needs.
He left the table he has been working at to get some food. He has been working for hours. He hasn’t left the hotel for a few days now. Now he feels like going out for dinner. He put his suit jacket on and left the room. Deciding in the car that he wanted food from home. Telling his driver to get him to a good restaurant from home. While on the drive there he started looking at emails and contracts on his phone.
He didn’t see when they got to the restaurant or having the hostist show him to a table, too absorbed into his work. Not until someone sat down at his table with him. Looking up he was surprised to see Raygean across from him.
Putting down his phone, he ordered his dinner in Russian. When the waiter left, he looked to Carol’s best friend. “What do I owe the pleasure of your company miss McKenna? Here to sample some authentic Russian cuisine?” He sipped his water while waiting for the vodka he ordered.
Ray looked to this Russian mafia man. He was handsome and smart. He trusted his people but didn’t blindly believe everything he was told. He researched it all. She wouldn’t compromise Carol’s safety, but she needed someone connected to the Robingtons.
Ray found some unsettling information and needed an ally. Mikhail has already helped Carol. Ray could use his help if he still wants to help Carol. “Mr. Sokolov, do you still wish to help my friend? Can we trust that you’ll assist her in any way?”
Mikhail put his glass down, never taking his eyes off her. “What help does she need that you can’t provide? You seem capable enough without my help.”
Ray looked to the staff then back to him. He understood the body language. Then without looking raised his voice and said again in Russian, “Everyone leave us.”
As a unit they all dispersed, leaving them alone at the table. “What is this about Miss McKenna?”
So Ray told him her findings. How now that James is only putting a certain amount of attention to the company, his father George is trying to take over. Pushing through ideas and projects that won't help the company. She has a recording that George plans to pin all these decisions on Carol if they don’t pan out.
Mikhail scoffed at that. There is paperwork proving she only worked on simple things. James only had her do secretarial duties. No decision making or project heads. George doesn’t know this but James will. However this will affect Carol once she comes back from her retreat. He rubbed his bottom lip in thought. How could he help save Carol's reputation if her ex in-laws are actively trying to hurt them.
Ray, understanding his silence, continued. “George won’t listen to anyone from me or my family. We aren’t old money and I am inheriting the business while my brother works for me. It goes against everything he believes. What I would like you to do is go to New York with a file. Talk to George. If he knows you are the one protecting her, maybe he would stop implementing her.”
Mikhail held out his hand wanting the file. Ray dug into her case and handed over the file for Mikhail to read. It was a file of George’s wrong doings, things that he wouldn’t want the government or his son to know. He could not only be disowned but also arrested. Hell, if his son feels it is necessary, he could get George killed.
Ray sat and waited for Mikhail to read through the file and give her an answer. Once he was finished with the file, he closed it and put it on the table close to him. He signaled his guy to have the staff come back into the room. He came here for food, not more business. Ray may need a favor but he still has work to do. As the staff finished serving him his meal, he looked to Ray.
“How would this little errand help me? If you know what is going on with Carol and her ex family, you know what I am dealing with. If I take up the task, what would be in it for me?”
Ray smiled. “I have it on good authority you have a few business adventures in the works for all cities you have a presence in. I have a friend over there who has a piece of property that you might want to check out. With a few renovations, it could suit you well. Her family were bankers before their fall. I will also tell little Tori that you were very helpful to shut a stupid man up without much violence.”
Mikhail sipped at his shot while looking at the dish he ordered. He thought about the pro’s and con’s of Ray’s plan. What he could gain and what he could lose. The losing list isn’t much, he could lose a few hours of work while flying there. Could have to lose the support of a family that saved his life as a child. Or they could agree he is out of bounds, blaming a woman not in the family for his own mistakes.
He looked to his table companion and asked a question. “Do you have pictures of the property?”
To that Ray smiled. She set another file in front of him. He smiled back at her, looked at the information about the property that might be his new club. The property used to be a bank. It isn’t big, but it isn’t small. Comes with a decent size parking lot. Owner says they could build to it to expand if needed.
It was a good building, mostly brick, and has a basement where there is a volt. Which means the foundation has a good solid base. Two stories, we could expand if necessary, which it seems to be necessary. Not too much more. Most of the space could be changed into a play area with rooms as needed. Looking at the pictures, he is already making plans. He would like a tour of the property.
Again he looked to his table companion and smiled. He put that file down on top of the other one and shook hands with Miss McKenna. “It is a pleasure to do business with you. You would make a good family head. Inform her, she would not have anything to worry about upon her arrival back to civilization.”
