Patrick stared after Annie, his heart being torn in two. He turned on Vic. “You’re going into a treatment center and getting help.” He strode to the side of the bed. “You are not going to keep doing this to her.”
“I know. I already talked to one of the doctors. When I’m released, I’ll go right to Mercy Ward for Veterans.”
He exhaled in a great whoosh. “Really? And you’ll stay?” He wanted to go to Annie, but he needed to get this settled first. “She can’t lose you again. She doesn’t deserve that.”
“No, she doesn’t.” Vic watched him closely. “She deserves a guy who’ll be there for her all the time.”
“She deserves that and more.” He stared at the door. She deserved everything that was good, everything she wanted.
