Patrick stared at the screen, watching Annie work. It’d been four days since she’d spoken to him. He’d picked her up from school two days ago and she’d remained quiet, only answering his direct questions. He shouldn’t care. It was better this way, but it hurt. He’d once again fallen for a woman who didn’t want him. No, she preferred the company of Jake. She chatted with the sous-chef on her breaks and had eaten lunch with him yesterday. He wanted to beat the other guy’s face to a pulp, but he wouldn’t—at least, not yet.
There was a knock on the door. Patrick clicked off the TV and went into the other room. Hunter had said he might stop by.
