Elena’s POV.
“Elena Andrea David, do you agree to marry Lucas the Alpha king?” The priest asked.
This was completely unnecessary. We werewolves usually just do a mating ceremony to mark marriage. This was the human version that was optional. For obvious reasons, however, we are doing just the human version of marriage.
Alpha Lucas glanced at me, daring me to say no. I know not to test an alpha, but for a few seconds I was tempted to. I smirk slowly and he lifts his left eyebrow.
The atmosphere in the room was filled with tension. When the question was asked, I replied “I do.” This was followed by a mix of relieved sighs and gentle laughter from those present.
He put a black diamond ring on my left finger and I had to hold my hand from falling from its weight.
The priest announced, “If anyone has any objections as to why these two should not be joined together, speak now or forever hold your peace.” Again, people looked around. There was silence. Oh moon goddess. I have never been kissed before and now my first kiss would be in front of strangers with an even stranger man whose name I learnt a few hours ago.
“You may …” The priest never got to complete his statement as the giant doors which were initially closed after my entrance swung open dramatically. A female with dark glasses, dressed in a white Moana themed off the shoulders gown complete with a veil and bouquet, trudged down the aisle.
“I object to this marriage! The Alpha cannot get married to her. He promised me a wedding. This is the ring he gave me.” She raised her hand to show the crowd a gold band with a crust of ruby surrounded by diamonds. A collective gasp echoed from the crowd. Ooh I was so loving this drama. Alpha King was first shocked, of course, by the audacity to intrude on his own wedding, then confused as he stared at the ring. I sat in the couple's high seat that was no doubt meant for the reception.
Waves of conversation started in the crowd and I overheard someone say,
“That's Luna 's mother's ring.” Oh my. The scandal. This is better than any TV show. But something is missing. Ah, yes. There’s usually food. I glanced longingly at the food table. I mean no one would notice if I got a little food.
“I demand we get married this instant!” The woman said, looking at Alpha Lucas in the eye, fury evident in her features. I had reached the food table and piled a few grapes on my plate, popping a few in my mouth as I watched the unfolding drama.
“Well, someone is enjoying this way more than she is meant to. “ A low voice said, startling me. I turned to face the owner of the voice and was met by beauty itself. He had perfectly carved eyebrows and a nose that looked as if it was smacked right in the middle of his face. He had green eyes that looked really familiar. Oh, right. He must be the Alpha King’s brother.
“I’m Alpha Nacho, the Alpha king’s brother. You must be the bride. Pleased to make your acquaintance.” He kissed the back of the hand. I offered him a charmer indeed. “Nice to meet you too” I replied as we both sat together to watch the rest of the drama.
Alpha Lucas whispered something into just the ears of the woman. From his expression, it had to be something totally mean. Why does he have to say it so quietly? I want to hear too. She frowned and stomped her feet like a child.
“Leave this instant, Valerie, or you shall have it worse than just having to interrupt my wedding!” Lucas said out loud, his expression downright cold.
“Get us married this instant! She confidently claims, “He’s mine,” completely disregarding Alpha Lucas and addressing the priest to carry out her wishes.
Alpha Lucas held her by her neck, squeezing, and she started turning blue from lack of oxygen.
He harshly warns her again “I already told you to leave.” As his nails transformed into claws, piercing into her skin.I could not help but drop the plate I was holding.
“That’s my cue.” Nacho nods and I enter the drama scene back. I hold the woman who I now know is called Valerie.
“Leave my mate alone, hey you.” I pry off Alpha Lucas’s fingers and bash her up a bit for the sake of the audience, before pushing her away.
She should be grateful I stepped in. If not, she would have been dead. She shoots me a venomous look as she slithers away like the snake she is. I smiled at Alpha Lucas, whose expression had normalized.
“Shall we?” I asked the priest, who stood there looking red in the face and sweating in his priestly garments.
“You may now kiss the bride.” It was a brief kiss. It possibly lasted only about two seconds. He pecked my lips and pressed his lips to mine for a while at an angle so the audience would think it was a full kiss. I am extremely grateful he did not try a French kiss. We were soon presented as Alpha and Luna.
Oh s**t! I would have to do Luna duties when I had no clue how to even relate so well with people. We had our first dance. We danced to a perfect rhythm. How terribly cliché. My feet were dying in these boots and I couldn’t wait to sit down and eat. To think I got married wearing boots.
When I finally had gotten the chance to sit down after a million introductions to people I would probably not meet again, I piled food on my plate. The place was crawling with Alphas and the tension was thick. I was almost suffocating from the territorialism and dominance they all exuded naturally. I tried to brush aside the stares of some as I ate. I would kill for a familiar face. Where was my supposed husband? It was like he had vanished after our first dance.
“So, how does it feel to be married to my brother?” I glanced up to see familiar green eyes and I sighed with relief, smiling a little.
“Better, now I have someone to talk to.” I genuinely said.
