Chapter 5 ArchAngel

...... “An… angel…?” Zerha gasped, her eyes wide as saucers. “What is an angel doing down here? Isn’t he supposed to be in heaven?” “An angel,” Garren murmured, frowning as his golden eyes studied the battered figure. “He’s probably an archangel. Seeing that he’s been struggling to fight those low-level demons I don’t think he belongs to the high rank orders.” The angel was struggling to stay upright, wings battered, silver robes stained with dirt and blood. Before anyone could speak further, a demon lunged at him from the trees. “Sh*t!” the angel shouted as he dodged, barely avoiding the demon’s dark magic. Zerha gawked, her mouth opening and closing like a fish. “Wait… what the hell? Did I hear it right? He’s an angel, right? Why did he just curse?!” “Okay! You f****g a**hole!” the angel roared at the demon. “Come at me, and I’ll make sure you f****g suffer!” Right, I did not hear it wrong about an angel spouting indecent words. Zerha squinted, utterly thrown off. He said he’d make the demon suffer… but look at him! He’s the one suffering! Her gaze dropped to the weird looking human. He’s definitely a demon. Human-shaped but with horns… though… ugh, I hate to admit it, his horns are smaller and cuter than mine. Unfair. While demons generally looked human, the horns sprouting from their foreheads or temples gave them away. The archangel gathered glowing magic into his palms, hurling light magic at the demon, but the demon dodged with lightning speed, taunting him with every swipe. “Let’s go, Master,” Foxy urged, biting Zerha’s sleeve. “Yeah, we should leave, Master,” Garren agreed. “No sense getting involved.” “But shouldn’t we help him?” Zerha asked, eyes flicking between her companions and the struggling angel. “He looks like he’s about to be defeated!” “Why would you help him, Master?” Foxy shot back. “He’s an angel. And angels hate demons. What if he attacks us next?!” “But… you guys said you’d protect me, right?” Foxy winced. “Y-yes… b-but…” “Angels are far stronger than us, but I bet this archangel isn't that strong. If you want us to help, we’ll help.” “It would be good if we help! Alright, Garren, you and I will fight–” Zerha didn't finish her words when Foxy interrupted. “I… I will help that angel as well.” Foxy sighed. Clearly having second thoughts. Zerha beamed. “Awesome! Let’s go and help him!” “Foxy and I is more than enough to defeat that low-level demon. I don’t know why the angel is struggling.” Garren interjected. “YOU F****G PIECE OF SH*T! I’LL MAKE SURE YOU PAY FOR THIS!” the angel screamed at the demon, raising his trembling fists. …Is he really an angel? Zerha thought. He curses more than a sailor. “Hah! You’re all talk!” the demon snarled. “I don’t know why someone like you is down here, but by bringing your head to our King I will definitely get a hefty reward! WAHAHAHA!” The demon lunged again. Just before he struck, Garren roared and burst into his enormous dragon form, wings spanning the trees. He then breathed a massive jet of fire at the demon. The demon shrieked and dodged, his horns glowing as he barely avoided the flames. “A black dragon?!” “What a filthy little demon?” Garren bellowed. “This is my Master’s order. I shall burn you to ashes!” He spat more waves of fire. The demon zigzagged desperately, panting with exhaustion. Garren was clearly toying the demon. “Hey!” the demon yelled mid-dodge, spotting Zerha behind Garren’s bulk. “Why are you just standing there?! Help me!” The demon has a plan, if Zerha will help, the demon will flee from the dragon. The demon knew that he’s no match to the dragon. Zerha blinked. “…Huh? Eh? Why is he suddenly asking me for help?!” “Who are you to order my Master?!” Garren roared, wings flaring. He turned to Foxy. “Foxy!” Foxy knew exactly what he meant. She transformed instantly into a shimmering butterfly, flitting toward the demon. “What the?” The demon flinched as his vision blurred. Suddenly, he found himself standing under a beautiful tree with shimmering golden leaves drifting all around. A stunning young woman appeared before him, her nine tails fanned behind her like silk. The demon’s mouth fell open as he stared into the woman’s hypnotic red eyes. Meanwhile, Zerha gawked from the sidelines. What’s happening to him? Why did he stop mid-air? And who’s that gorgeous lady? Oh my gosh… She's so beautiful! Wait… that tail seems familiar though? “Stay here and do not move. Got it?” the beautiful woman commanded in a gentle, melodious voice. Her amber eyes glowed brighter. The demon nodded dumbly, completely under her spell. The illusion vanished in an instant. Garren inhaled and unleashed a torrent of fire, incinerating the immobilized demon into glowing embers. “Thanks, Foxy!” Garren called. “You’d better be grateful. You couldn’t have defeated him without me,” Foxy replied, nose high in the air. Garren reverted to his small form with a grumpy scowl, perching back on Zerha’s shoulder. As for Garren he can kill that demon swiftly; he just wants Zerha to see what Foxy can do. “Garren! You defeated him! You’re so cool! But… who was that lady earlier?” Zerha asked, eyes sparkling. “That was Foxy, Master.” “F-Foxy?! You can turn into a beautiful lady?!” “It’s part of my ability, Master. I can change my form and create illusions.” “Really? So you created that illusion for the demon?” “Yes. And I also used my eye trick.” “Eye trick?” Zerha tilted her head. Foxy transformed once again into a dazzling woman. She leaned in close and gazed into Zerha’s eyes, attempting to hypnotize her. “Can you show us your true power, Master?” she murmured, voice silky. “Whoa. You really can turn into a beautiful lady!” Zerha gasped. “It didn’t work on you Master?” Garren asked, impressed. “It… didn’t work on you?” Foxy stammered. “Huh?” “Foxy can manipulate minds with her eyes,” Garren explained. “But it didn’t work on you, Master! You really are different.” Zerha puffed her chest. “Maybe I just have strong willpower! Wahaha!” I don’t know why Foxy’s trick didn' t work on me but maybe because I’m strong? Hehehe. “Ahem!” someone suddenly coughed pointedly. Zerha snapped around. Oh right… the angel! The angel steps back when Zerha approaches her. “What are you planning to do?” he asked cautiously. “I’m going to heal you?” She then approached the angel again. The angle squinted his eyes, trying to read what could be Zerha’s next move. “I just want to help you, okay? Hm, but if you don't want to, it's not my problem anymore if another demon appeared beat you up again.” The angel thinks for minute clearly realize what Zerha just said. And when Zerha approached him again, he didn’t avoided her this time.. “Why did you heal me?” he asked after Zerha removed her hands from him. Zerha tilted her head. “Because you look pitiful.” “W-What?! Who are you to say that to me?!! And why would a f****ng demon heal me? I’m an angel! Demons and angels are supposed to be enemies! Or do you have some kind of motive? Are you waiting for me to let my guard down so you three could attack me?! Am right aren’t I?! Hah, don't f****ng expect me to let my guard down!” I still doubt he’s really an angel, Zerha thought. He curses too much. “I don’t have any ill intentions.” Zerha rolled her eyes. “What?” “Because our Master is different,” Garren declared proudly. “Yeah,” Foxy agreed. “Beasts from the Beast Kingdom… teaming up with a f****ng demon?!” the angel shouted, couldn't believe what he’s witnessing. “You’re all crazy!” “So what?” Foxy shot back. “You even got defeated buy a mere demon.” “I didn't need your help from the beginning you piece of sh*t!” The angel fell silent for a moment as she stared at Zerha. “Yeah, she’s kind of different…” he muttered. The angel exhaled, glancing away. “Oh, by the way… thanks for helping me. But just so you know, I didn’t need your help! I could’ve killed that f****ng demon myself!” “Really, huh?” Garren retorted. “You were almost killed by a low-level demon. I didn’t know archangels were so weak!” “What the f**k are you saying?! I’m not weak, you f****g lizard!” “If archangels like you are so strong, why were you struggling so hard earlier?” Zerha asked bluntly. The angel’s jaw dropped, his face flushing crimson. “If that f****g Damabiath hadn’t sealed some of my f****g powers, I’d have defeated that demon in one second! Tsk. That a**hole! I hate him!” I-Is it okay for an angel to curse another angel…? Zerha wondered, sweat dropping. “Is this Damabiath another archangel?” Foxy asked. “And why did he seal your powers?” “Yes!” the angel yelled. “He says I cause too much trouble. That’s why he sealed my powers, even though I didn’t do sh*t wrong!” I doubt that, all three thought simultaneously. “What now, Master? What kingdom do you choose?” Garren asked, changing the topic. Zerha scrunched her face in thought. Actually… I want to stay in the Haria Kingdom. It’s the human kingdom, so it feels less scary… But… Garren said they’re demon hunters. So if I show up there with a horn, I might get my head chopped off the second I arrive… Then all of a sudden, her eyes lit up as an idea popped into her mind. “Foxy! Can you make us look like humans? For me… I just need my horn gone. And Garren needs to look human. Can you do it?” Foxy drooped her fluffy tails. “I’m sorry, Master… I can only transform myself.” “A nine-tailed fox can only transform herself,” Garren explained gently. “I also apologize, I can turn into a human but I can’t do it right now.” “It’s alright, Foxy, Garren.” Zerha let out a long sigh. “What should we do now? I want to stay in the Human Kingdom…” Then, a loud and deliberately cough was heard. “If you want my help, then beg me!” the angel suddenly interjected, grinning devilishly. “Wahaha! I’ll help you if you beg! Say, ‘Oh mighty Ecanus, please! I’ll do anything! Please help me!’ Wahaha!” The trio stared at him with deadpan expressions. “…Come on, Master,” Foxy said wearily. “Let’s just leave this idiotic angel.” “Yeah,” Garren agreed. “He’s not worth it.” They were about to turn away when the angel flailed his arms. “Wait! I was just joking! Look!” He straightened up, closed his eyes, and shimmered with magic. In a blink, his wings vanished, his robes shifted into casual human clothes, and he looked like an ordinary silver-haired young man. Zerha blinked. “Your wings are gone!” “We’re planning to go to the Haria Kingdom,” Zerha explained. “We want to look human so we can stay there safely. Can you change us?” “Hah! Of course!” the angel huffed, lifting his chin. “I, the mighty angel Ecanus, can easily do that!” He pointed at Garren, his fingertips glowing with divine light. Garren’s scaly body shimmered, then shrank into the form of a tall, handsome young man with black hair, golden eyes, and an intimidating aura. Next, Ecanus pointed at Zerha. A warm light enveloped her, and when it faded, her horns were gone. Her clothing shifted into simple, lovely attire fit for a human girl. “My horn is gone!” Zerha gasped, clutching her forehead. She looked at Ecanus and blurted, “Thank you!” “Y-You’re welcome…” Ecanus mumbled, looking away as a faint blush crept across his cheeks. Foxy transformed into her human form, a stunning young woman with white hair and fox-like crimson eyes, dressed in traveler’s clothes. “Now that we are all set! Let’s go!” Zerha announced excitedly. “W-wait!” Ecanus called out. “Can I… go with you?” “Why?” Zerha demanded. “Don’t you have an angel business? Like… watching over people or… protecting the heavens or something?” “Hmph!” Ecanus sniffed. “I don’t do that! Too much work!” Zerha, Garren, and Foxy exchanged exasperated looks. Is he really an angel? He’s not normal…
