Multiverse Doomsday Alliance

865 Words
Turning the current doomsday crisis into a "test" — and not just the first one — truly gave people a glimmer of courage and hope. There were many other highly upvoted comments online: "This isn't the end of the world. It's just war!" "It's not like the planet exploded or the sun went out. They're just monsters. And monsters die when you kill them. So what are we afraid of?" "Is this still reality?" "A 43-year-old veteran has already said goodbye to his family and volunteered for the front line. He says the monsters must be stopped there." "Humanity has survived thousands of years... why does it have to be us facing this?" "Unity! Unity! Unity! Without it, we'll die even faster!" Amid the flood of comments, fear and anxiety were still present, but as Ji Mingshu had noted, the overall emotional tone remained positive. People were voluntarily giving each other strength. This was, undoubtedly, the best outcome. If despair and chaos had taken hold from the beginning, even with support from two alternate worlds, Shen Yu would have faced near-impossible odds trying to accomplish anything. Moreover, interaction with the other two worlds couldn't be purely one-sided. Both versions of Shen Yu had families of their own. Shen Yu understood that the public's current optimism came from two main sources: First, proactive measures from the authorities. Second, the real danger hadn't yet reached their homeland. The previous three meteor incidents had all occurred abroad, which made the threat feel distant. "Boss, one more thing to report," Ji Mingshu said as Shen Yu finished reading the file. "The entire domestic security team has submitted resignation letters." Shen Yu looked up. The screen had already switched to a new page. Although the Shen Group's main operations were overseas, the domestic branch was still sizable, with over 1,300 employees. Among them, more than 240 were part of the security department. Their leader, Hu Tao, was a disciplined, physically formidable middle-aged man. His resignation letter had only six words: "If war comes, call me back!" Their reason for resigning couldn't be clearer. "Were they all veterans? None stayed behind?" Shen Yu asked. "Per your original instructions, we prioritized hiring veterans for domestic security," Ji Mingshu replied softly. "Only three non-veteran personnel remain. I recommend quickly transferring elite staff from overseas and recruiting at high wages locally to replace the departing team. Other employees will also need reassurance to maintain company stability." The urgency was obvious. Shen Group's assets — heavy industry, factories, land, and warehouses full of materials — needed protection. But Shen Yu had another idea. "Can we reach the head of Linhai City's Meteor Crisis Response Department?" he asked. "Are you planning to donate some domestic assets in exchange for protection or supplies?" Ji Mingshu speculated. Shen Yu shook his head. He looked at his loyal assistant of seven years, hesitated for a moment, and then decided to reveal a little more. While reading the report earlier, an idea — a framework — had already taken shape in his mind. "You probably have some idea about my abilities," Shen Yu began. "Yes," Ji Mingshu's eyes widened slightly, her heartbeat quickening. She had seen hints of Shen Yu's extraordinary talents, but he had never explained them, let alone acknowledged them directly. Now, he was finally lifting the veil. "I have two main abilities," Shen Yu said. "One is spatial — storage and teleportation. I can move between spaces, but I can't carry living beings. The other is merit-based: I can materialize virtue into power. By doing good and helping others, I gain mysterious energies. Your enhanced abilities also come from this." Ji Mingshu remained silent, but the flush on her face betrayed her excitement. She had already guessed much of this. The company's spatial tech was a core part of their business, and Shen Yu's tireless philanthropic efforts went far beyond seeking fame or indulging in sentiment. His sudden pivot to healthcare investment and other subtle clues had also been telling. Even if they never spoke of it aloud, she had long suspected. Still, hearing it directly from Shen Yu was deeply meaningful. It felt like their bond had just grown stronger. And she sensed there was more. "That was all my power — until today," Shen Yu continued with a smile. "You're smart. You must've noticed that I seem more relaxed lately." "Yes," Ji Mingshu nodded, her eyes bright. "You've been tense for half a year, but recently... it's like all that weight lifted." She wasn't psychic, but she knew him too well. They had worked side-by-side for so long that they spent more time together than with their own families. What had changed? She held her breath. "Just a few hours ago, I was contacted by an organization from beyond this world," Shen Yu said seriously. "Its name is: The Multiversal Doomsday Civilization Mutual Aid Association." Even though Ji Mingshu had braced herself, she couldn't stop her jaw from dropping. If her boss hadn't looked so serious, she'd have thought it was a joke. The Multiversal Doomsday Civilization Mutual Aid Association? The words themselves were easy to understand. But that was what made them so unbelievable.
