When Shen Yu first saw the two versions of himself, his attention was primarily drawn to the Interstellar Shen Yu.
The technology on him was immediately recognizable as being from a much higher level, beyond what Shen Yu had ever encountered. But what excited Shen Yu even more was the revelation that Interstellar Shen Yu's civilization had entered the interstellar era for over two hundred years. The scientific advancements he mentioned were of immense importance to humanity, which was still in the planetary age.
But to Shen Yu's surprise, there was even more to discover!
“According to the way novels from my previous life categorized things, I’d say my world can be classified as ‘High Martial Arts’,” Ancient Shen Yu said with a slight sense of pride, though he sighed shortly after. “Unfortunately, despite the martial prowess, it’s meaningless against natural disasters that can destroy entire ecosystems. If it were cultivation-based techniques, perhaps the end of the world could still be avoided.”
Martial arts were certainly different from the usual "cultivation" seen in many stories. No matter how high one’s cultivation, or how strong the power, it was still limited by mundane needs, like food.
Even someone capable of destroying a city with a single sword strike wouldn’t be able to create a city out of nothing. When faced with a dying sun, no amount of martial strength could prevent the impending doom.
But now, the situation was different.
The martial power was useless against the apocalypse he faced, but that didn’t mean it was useless in the context of other worlds’ apocalyptic threats.
Ancient Shen Yu suddenly looked up at Shen Yu: "Main body, what do you think? Divine power for food?"
From the moment they arrived in this space, Ancient Shen Yu had already noticed the food supplies. Some of them were clearly sacks of rice.
He knew his own world’s situation all too well.
The empire had collapsed, corpses lay scattered, and even cannibalism had become commonplace.
Food had become a rare commodity, with no one willing to sell it. The only way to obtain it was through violence.
These food supplies were vital to him in his current state!
“Of course, that’s fine,” Shen Yu nodded. “This will count as great merit and will earn us gray mist. But let’s not rush it. We should make a plan. Taking too much food all at once might attract danger.”
Shen Yu could understand the situation in Ancient Shen Yu's world. Judging by his attire, the level of technological development in his society was still quite low. Their ability to resist the end times was far too weak.
“I understand,” Ancient Shen Yu said, calming himself. He smiled self-deprecatingly. “This body is only twenty, so the blood is naturally boiling.”
He had witnessed countless tragic events, and the helplessness and despair had made it hard to remain calm when seeing even the smallest shred of hope.
However, with both versions of himself present, he no longer cared about saving face.
“Now, there’s something I need you to handle,” Shen Yu said, turning to the two versions of himself. “There’s a group of armed robbers outside. Can you deal with them?”
Indeed, Shen Yu was testing them.
A group of armed criminals wasn’t a serious threat, but it was an opportunity to test whether they could leave the space and whether their powers would work in other worlds.
If they could leave, but their martial arts or technological products couldn’t be used outside, the future would look bleak.
Clearly, the two men understood the stakes.
“I’ll take care of it,” Interstellar Shen Yu said first. “I’ve recently joined the military, and I’ve undergone preliminary enhancements. My body now has subdermal armor and energy shields. Ordinary kinetic bullets can’t even harm me, and the materials used for the armor should still be effective, regardless of the world we’re in.”
“No need to kill them all,” Ancient Shen Yu added. “In the face of the apocalypse, labor is essential. Even criminals have value—whether as laborers or cannon fodder. Killing them outright is a waste. I have a technique called Xuanxin Soul Control, which allows me to control the souls of others to a certain extent. These simpletons should be easy to control. If it works, there’s no chance for them to resist.”
A technique like that?
Shen Yu was intrigued, thinking back to what Ancient Shen Yu had said about focusing on physical strength and secondary development of the spirit. It made sense now.
This was a good thing.
At this moment, Shen Yu hoped that the worlds these versions of himself came from were stronger. The stronger, the better.
Suddenly, Shen Yu noticed a change in Interstellar Shen Yu's appearance.
Some hidden lines on his body began to glow faintly. His head and eyes, some of the more vulnerable areas, now glowed with a faint, polygonal light screen.
“Klein Field Barrier,” Interstellar Shen Yu explained when he noticed Shen Yu’s gaze. “It’s a one-way energy circuit with high efficiency in energy conversion. It performs exceptionally well against both kinetic and energy-based weapons.”
Shen Yu said nothing, but his excitement grew.
With the gray mist unfolding, Interstellar Shen Yu stepped confidently outside.
As expected, a group of armed thugs immediately locked their sights on him.
Their nerves had been tense, and as soon as the gray mist reappeared, they instinctively fired their weapons without waiting to see clearly.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The sounds of gunfire erupted as the criminals fired their fully automatic rifles, repeatedly pressing the triggers and shouting, as though that would bring them safety.
Shen Yu himself felt a little nervous.
But Interstellar Shen Yu didn’t even move.
He simply crossed his arms, and the Klein Field barrier appeared wherever the bullets collided.
The bullets lost all their kinetic energy and fell to the ground with a crisp sound, not even able to break through the external energy shield.
The scene left the criminals completely stunned.
“F***! F***!”
“The Terminator, he’s the Terminator!”
“Shoot! Shoot!”
“Monster! It’s a monster, run!”
Even though they were aware of the world’s changes, seeing such an otherworldly scene right in front of them, especially as it happened to the enemies, was beyond what they had imagined.
Some criminals were so terrified that they couldn’t even form coherent sentences and fled.
As they ran, they screamed hysterically, clearly at their breaking point.
When the power in their hands no longer provided any sense of security, no matter how ferocious the thug, they were nothing but slaves to their fear.
But then, an eerie figure suddenly appeared before them.
In an instant, all the criminals froze, their minds blank.
They didn’t need to make eye contact. It felt as if their entire world had been overtaken by a pair of eyes—eyes that held an otherworldly power, like those of a god. Everything else was drowned out.
