Frost’s POV
I wake up slowly feeling no more pain radiating from my body. Looking where the wound had been I find it completely healed, not a single sign it was ever there. Fern had healed me while I was passed out. Looking around I don’t recognize the bedroom so I suspect I’m in pack territory. Getting up I go looking for someone to tell me what had happened while I was out cold. The first person I found was the female that had been at Levi’s side whom I had wrongfully assumed was his mate. She still glared at me.
“Good you’re healed, now you can get out of our home.” She snapped causing me to freeze in shock.
“Right…I’d like to speak to alpha first.”
“No, you’ve only been a hindrance to him since you arrived. Leave before you weaken our pack even more.”
I had no words to say, once again I was unwelcome among the pack. Closing my eyes and used a teleportation spell to leave though I did not return home. I returned to town and sought out the families that had been harmed by the witch’s actions. Knocking on the door it was answered by the husband that had lost an arm to the chimera.
“It’s you!” He welcomed happily and motioned me inside.
I entered only to have a group of children rush to me. I wonder how long I was out that they all seemed so much better than when I last saw them.
“Lady Mana, I must thank you for all you’ve done for our families.”
I turned to the one armed man sad to know he had to live his life without the limb but happy to see he was on his feet and looking more lively.
“Happy to help, I am glad I ended up coming with Sir Sebastian. How is everyone else doing?”
He smiled at the children as he answered.
“Better, the others are at work. Henry’s a hard worker, can’t stand not to be working regularly. He’s hobbling around with a walking stick working over at the inn and much happier knowing he’s got work again. I’ve taken over watching the kids full time.”
“I’m happy to hear that things are better. I’ve been sick recently so I actually don’t know how long ago I was here.”
The man looked surprised.
“It’s been two weeks.”
That shocks me, though it was a witch with a chimera so it was possible that there had been a curse of some kind on the weapon that struck me. I’d have to ask Fern later. I knelt by the kids as they all eagerly began telling me what they had been doing since I was here. The father, Bill as I learned his name was, offered me something to drink that I politely declined.
“It’s been like night and day in the difference in all of us since you helped us. I haven’t seen Sir Sebastian yet but I hope he visits so I can thank him as well.”
I remembered that Sebastian had been with me in pack territory. I wondered if he was still there, surely he would have returned to where he’d been staying when I remained unconscious that long.
“If I see him, I’ll let you know.” I promise.
Unable to convince the children I needed to leave I decided to entertain them for a bit with my magic. Creating illusions of whatever they wanted to see from princesses to horses. The kids excitedly cheered and reached out to the illusions as though they kept forgetting they were just that. When Bill managed to get them that I needed to leave they all hugged me goodbye making me promise to visit again.
I returned home afterwards and collapsed onto the bed in my sanctuary. I wasn’t tired but I felt emotionally exhausted. I wondered if my presence would cause my father issues with being included in the pack. I hope not, he deserved to have a home with a pack. Closing my eyes, I try not to think about any of it. When I hear the door of my home opening I sit up to find both my fathers, Levi, and Sebastian there. Shocked I open my mouth to speak but find my fathers moving quickly to embrace me.
“What were you thinking disappearing like that?” Father snapped at me; his eyes filled with worry.
“We thought perhaps the witch had returned and captured you.” Veather added just as worried.
“I-I’m sorry, I did not want to cause anymore distress to the pack so I left.”
“Distress? Everyone was worried when you suddenly just vanished.” Levi said stepping forward looking both angry and worried, the two emotions warring with each other.
“I encountered one of the pack who made certain I knew I was unwelcome. I am aware as a dragon I have no place with wolves, I will keep my distance from now and aid you from here.”
Levi growled loudly as his fist slammed into my worktable.
“You are pack!” He snapped loudly. “Who said this to you?”
I shake my head, not wanting to cause problems.
“It doesn’t matter. I need to rest; I’m still feeling weak from my injury.”
Levi looked ready to protest but Sebastian placed a hand on his shoulder stopping him. I hadn’t expected them to become so friendly, I was happy though.
“We will return tomorrow after you’ve rested. We’ll bring breakfast.” Sebastian said with a friendly smile and relief in his eyes at the sight of me awake and aware.
“Thank you, oh and Bill says he wants to thank you whenever you can visit.”
“I will see him and the others soon. I’ve been otherwise occupied sadly and haven’t been able to check on them.”
I watched them all leave and let out a deep sigh. I didn’t want to cause issues within the pack, I could handle keeping my distance.
Levi’s POV
“I know who did this.” Levi said, fury in his eyes knowing that someone he trusted so much had done this.
“Do you know why they’d do this?” Knight asked, calm though he was the one who should be the one angriest at this.
“Samantha is my second in command, I trust her to help me look out for the pack. Frost suddenly acted strangely after she joined us at the feast. I have no doubt she is the one who made Frost feel unwanted again.”
Knight looked pained as he spoke next.
“Though I hate how my daughter has been treated, your second in command has had valid concerns to be worried.”
All eyes turned to him in shock.
“Dragons are mostly an unknown to other species, it leaves unknown possible threats. From what I’ve gathered both you and my daughter were affected by a misunderstanding, on your end causing you to act in a way that was concerning to many of the pack. As it is, Samantha is doing as you require of your second in command. She’s looking out for the pack when you’ve been unable to. Speak with her and prove that my daughter will not be a hindrance on the pack. I know my daughter; she won’t change her mind unless Samantha is the one to approach her admitting she was wrong.”
Levi cursed as he looked away.
“Damn it…I’ll talk with her. Get my ass on the right track and properly be the alpha our pack deserves.”
Sebastian patted me on the back.
“Sounds like a good plan.”
I huff, I hadn’t expected to like the human so much. He was a strong warrior and had weaseled his way to my side as someone I could becoming a trusted friend. It had actually been him to help in keeping me focused on my tasks even as I worried for Frost.
“Knight, Sebastian and I will head back to the pack. Will you and Fern arrange food to be ready for breakfast and we will meet you back here?”
“Of course alpha.”
Shifting into my wolf form I let Sebastian climb onto my back before I take off back home. We’d talk with Frost in the morning and today I’d speak with Samantha and promise her to get my head on straight and be the alpha I need to be. But I would not tolerate anymore hostility towards Frost.
