Matt's eyes still locked onto Emily's, the tension palpable. Suddenly, his phone buzzed, shattering the moment.
"Matt, we need to talk," Dr. Lee called from downstairs.
Matt hesitated, then stood, his eyes never leaving Emily's. "I'll be right back."
Emily's heart raced as Matt departed. What was she feeling?
This must stop where in the middle solving some paranormal and yet I'm feeling this towards him damn.
Downstairs, Matt found Dr. Lee scrutinizing ancient texts.
"What's up, Sophia?" Matt asked.
Dr. Lee's expression turned grave. "Matt, your family's past is more complicated than I thought."
Matt's brow furrowed. "What do you mean?"
"Your ancestors made pacts with dark forces, just like Malcolm's. You're connected."
Matt's eyes widened. "What are you saying?"
Dr. Lee's voice dropped. "You may be more like Malcolm than you think."
Matt's face paled.
Back Upstairs
Emily paced, her thoughts tangled. Matt's words echoed: "I've been waiting for you."
The door creaked open. Matt entered, his expression troubled.
Emily approached cautiously. "Matt, what's wrong?"
Matt's eyes searched hers. "Just family stuff."
Emily sensed deeper turmoil. "Tell me."
Matt's jaw clenched. "Maybe someday."
Emily's heart ached. She reached out, touching his arm.
Matt's gaze dropped to her hand.
