Chapter 2

Derek’s POV Two days earlier. I looked up from my phone to find my teammates rushing into the locker room all flushed with excitement and glee. I was sitting on one of the benches staring down at a message Ana had sent that read simply: ‘Wanna come over tonight?’ I knew what the invitation meant. s*x. Any other day I’d have accepted or even been thrilled but today wasn’t one of those days. See, Ana was my ex girlfriend and after our break-up we’d stayed friends, Well a bit more than friends. As much as she was a terrible girlfriend, she was at least a great lady with a banging body and I wasn’t going to refuse her. She did have this fantasy that we were going to get back together even though I’d been clear that I was no longer interested. “Hey man.” Jake, a Beta and a midfielder clasped my hands as he neared me. “What’s up?” I asked from where I sat on the bench with nothing but a white towel wrapped around my waist. “A bunch of us are going to Whitney’s tonight. You gotta come.” Jake said, sitting down on a bench facing mine. “I don’t know man, I’ve got homework and shit.” “Oh come on, we’ll be there for only two, three hours tops.” I knew that was a lie to get me to come because never had any one of us gone out and not stayed past 3am but I nodded anyway. I hadn’t been feeling myself lately, maybe a little booze was what I needed. “Sure.” I said reluctantly. “That’s our captain.” Jake clapped my shoulders before walking towards his own locker to change into his practice clothes. ******* The bar was packed when we got there six hours later after practice, but we had easily gotten a table when Jake had bullied a bunch of nerds into giving up on their own. We’d been at the bar close to an hour now, drinking and making jokes. A bunch of sorority girls had come to our table to either buy us a drink or tried to take one of us home, which was mostly me but I had declined most invitations. For some reason I wasn’t interested today. The blonde girl that had been sitting on my lap for the past five minutes without so much as an acknowledgement from me pulled my face into hers and kissed me. Her mouth tasted of alcohol and lime. The kiss was slow and sensual and her lips were soft pressed up against mine. She smelled of lavender and something else. I liked the way she smelled so I let her kiss me. Her small hand pulled my head closer as she deepened the kiss. My hands slid up to her skirt and she moaned into my mouth. She pulled away just a bit and whispered into my ears. “Wanna get out of here?” “Sorry love, not tonight.” I whispered back. For a brief moment I wondered what the hell was wrong with me. Here I was in a bar with a hot blonde that looked ready to give me her soul and I was refusing. The blonde pouted. “Are you sure?” Her hands pressed against my crotch. Ordinarily I’d be turned on but all her gesture did was annoy me. I hated repeating myself. “Very.” I said before taking her hands off. She stood up with a huff and walked away with a sway in her tiny hips. “Dude, did you just reject that hot blonde?” Jake asked, staring at me like I had grown horns. “Wasn’t feeling her.” I shrugged and took another swig of my beer. Truth be told I wasn’t feeling anything. “But damn though, Ana is hot. I’ll do anything to tap that,” Ryan said as we were playing pool. “Unfortunately she only has eyes for Derek.” He stared at me pointedly before hitting the ball. We’d eventually got up to play some pool after finishing our drinks and Ryan seemed to be winning. “Ah, pay up.” Ryan said as he won again. I gave him a hundred dollar bill. “You are just lucky tonight.” I told him. I was completely out of my game tonight. I was usually the best at pool but I had been losing all day. “And as for Ana, I’m sure if you treat her right, she will let you hit. You just gotta be ready for her policing your life.” “I’d let her police my soul if it meant I get to mark her.” I rolled my eyes at Ryan before I took a swig of my beer and let myself enjoy the view of sorority girls walking past us. A few of them had already come to the pool table but I was still uninterested. At least tonight. “Look guys, fat face just walked In.” Jake, my Beta best friend, pointed at someone that had just come through the entrance. I followed his hands and frowned at the girl that just walked in. I knew the girl. I’d seen her around campus a couple of times. She was incredibly smart and just an Omega. She was a big girl too, weighing more than two hundred pounds. “Fat face!” Gregory, a dark haired guy called out to her. She looked over at our table and immediately avoided eye contact, looking away from us like the sight of us was scorching. “I think she winked at you man.” Jake patted Ryan’s chest. “She might want you man.” Jake laughed at his own jokes. “Eww, f**k you.” Ryan said as he shook Jake’s hands from his chest. “Ah come on, I’m sure she can give you a wild night better than Ana if only you let her. Might break your d**k though.” “f**k you, that’s disgusting.” Ryan retorted. I watched in amusement as the both of them continued to banter about who the plus sized girl was staring at. “Guys, I think I have an idea.” Greg said. “Shoot.” I said as I leaned over the pool table to hit the ball. “How about we make this game a little more interesting?” He smirked. “Okay, what do you have in mind?” I asked. I was in for a little fun in my life, seeing my life has been dull the past few days. “Alright. Instead of betting with money, we bet on something more interesting. Loser of the game gets to go out on a date with fat face.” He said. “Whoa!” Jake said with a huge grin on his face. He clearly loved the idea. “Now that idea is brilliant. What do you think, Derek? You up for it?” Jake asked. “Sure, why not but I warn you, you’d have to be the one going out with her.” I warned him. He tipped his head back in laughter, “Bring it on.” I lost the game. “Derek, it seems like you’d be the one going out with fat face.” Jake slapped my shoulders as he removed his shirt, flashing his glistening body to another group of ladies that just passed. “Shit.” I cursed. I had nothing against her but she wasn’t my type. Deciding that maybe this would be a good way to get out of my semi-depressive state, I nodded. “Fine, I’ll do it.” The boys erupted in cheers, encouraging me. I started to plot the plan in my head. I have charmed half of the school girls with just a flash of my abs, this shouldn’t be that hard.
