CALLUM My eyes snapped open, heart hammering. The guest bedroom's unfamiliar shadows threw me off for a second before everything came rushing back. I'd meant to stay awake, to make sure this exact thing didn't happen. I strained to listen for Lila's heartbeat from the other room. Nothing. I sat up fast, nearly getting tangled in the sheets.
