AfterShock Academy Chapter 6

*** ## Chapter 6: Veils of Deception *** ### Scene 1: Calm Before the Collapse Nova Core Academy seemed quieter lately—too quiet. The usual hum of teenage chaos had dulled into low murmurs and side-eyes. Trust had become a luxury. Luke sat on the stone edge outside the dorms, sword resting across his lap, staring up at the gray sky. The wind whispered secrets only he could hear. His thoughts looped on one phrase: **“Beware the masks; the shadows speak.”** Boy dropped beside him with a sigh, peeling an energy drink can. “You know what freaks me out? They’re so damn good at pretending.” Luke didn’t respond right away. “They’re not pretending,” he finally said. “They believe their lies. That’s what makes them dangerous.” *** ### Scene 2: Cafeteria Confessions The group sat in their usual cafeteria spot. Minnie still had a faint glow under her skin where the mark had been, and she hadn’t been the same since the attack. Her voice was quieter, eyes always scanning. “I saw Cael sneaking into the staff building,” she whispered, stirring her soup. “He had clearance. I checked.” Wah blinked. “Wait… *he had clearance*? As in, authorized?” Giant tapped his screen rapidly. “Nova Core’s clearance system is biometric. You can’t fake it… unless you rewrite the base code.” They all froze. Boy leaned back, eyebrows raised. “So… we’re officially in a spy movie?” Luke stood slowly. “No. We’re in a war. And the enemy’s in our backyard.” *** ### Scene 3: Shadow Labyrinth That night, the boys returned to the Echo Ruins. But something had changed. The stone walls had shifted, as if the ruin had a mind of its own. A new tunnel yawned open, swallowing the moonlight into pitch blackness. “Should we… go in?” Boy asked, both excited and nervous. Luke lit a Linzite torch. “We don’t run from the dark.” As they moved deeper, echoes whispered around them—literal echoes, but with voices distorted like broken radios. Giant deciphered the walls as they walked. “This tunnel wasn’t built by the ancients. It was modified. Recently.” The tunnel ended at a sealed chamber door, etched with the twisted *N*. Luke pressed his palm against it. The door groaned open. Inside was a hidden surveillance center—screens showing live feeds of different spots around Nova Core Academy… including the boys’ dorm, the cafeteria, even the Echo Ruins itself. They’d been watched for weeks. *** ### Scene 4: Noxie’s Web The next day, Noxie approached Minnie near the greenhouse. She smiled softly, carrying a small glowing plant in her palm. “You’ve got a beautiful aura,” she said sweetly. “You ever wonder what you could be… with the right guidance?” Minnie tensed. “I don’t need guidance. I’ve got people.” Noxie’s smile didn’t fade. “Oh, but sometimes… the people around us hold us back.” As she walked away, Minnie’s fingers tightened. There was something hypnotic in Noxie’s words—like venom laced in silk. *** ### Scene 5: A Code Shattered Back in the ruins, Giant worked nonstop trying to trace the surveillance system’s origin. Wah helped scan magnetic trails while Boy kept watch. Suddenly, the screens flickered. A single message appeared: **“Subject: Lwarh Salvator – Marked for Extraction.”** Boy cursed under his breath. “They’re targeting you, bro. Directly.” Luke said nothing, his eyes locked on the screen. “We’re done playing defense,” he said coldly. “We strike back.” *** ### To be continued... **Next Chapter: “Operation Backlash”**
