CHAPTER 3
Mr. Blackwood continued speaking, his voice heavy with the memories of that night.
“After the call disconnected, we tried calling them back.”
He paused.
“But nobody picked up.”
“We didn't waste any more time. Our car sped toward the highway express road as fast as it could.”
“Everyone was silent. We were all praying that we would get there in time.”
“When we finally reached the highway, we saw someone running from the other end of the road.”
Mr. Blackwood looked at Ethan.
“It was little Ethan.”
“He was running without looking back.”
“There was nobody chasing him, but he kept running faster with every second that passed.”
“Our car stopped right in front of him.”
“The moment I came down from the car, Ethan saw me.”
“Tears were already rolling down his cheeks.”
Mr. Blackwood's voice became shaky.
“He ran toward me and cried…”
“Grandpa!”
“Save Dad!”
“Save Mom!”
“He kept saying it over and over again.”
“Save Dad and Mom!”
“We tried to calm him down. We held him and told him that everything would be alright.”
“But Ethan was only a little boy. He didn't understand what had happened.”
“He only knew that his parents were still back there.”
“So we moved quickly toward the location where the incident had taken place.”
Mr. Blackwood lowered his head.
“And when we got there…”
He took a deep breath.
“We found Trevor.”
“His body was lying there.”
“Trevor was dead.”
The room became completely silent.
Madam Sinclair's eyes filled with tears.
She looked down, remembering the son she had lost that night.
Mr. Blackwood continued.
“We searched everywhere for Michelle.”
“We called her name.”
“We searched the area again and again.”
“But we couldn't find her.”
“Michelle was gone.”
“We brought Trevor's body home…”
His voice broke.
“And we buried him.”
Mr. Blackwood looked at Ethan.
“Your father was buried.”
Ethan's eyes filled with tears as he listened.
“But your mother…”
Mr. Blackwood paused.
“We never found her.”
Madam Sinclair quietly wiped the tears from her face.
“For fourteen years,” Mr. Blackwood continued, “we have continued searching for Michelle.”
He looked at Madam Sinclair.
“She is still missing.”
His voice was firm.
“We don't know where she is.”
“We don't know what happened to her after that night.”
“But we have never stopped searching.”
He looked back at Ethan.
“And we will keep searching until we know what happened to your mother.”
Mr. Blackwood placed his hand gently on Ethan's shoulder.
“Your father is gone, Ethan.”
“But your mother is still missing.”
