She didn’t know how long she sat there. She just rubbed her belly as she let the information soak into her. “A pup,” she whispered. “We are having a pup.” She heard the door open; Caleb’s scent became stronger as he walked towards their bedroom.
“Sky? Sky are you in here?” he called.
“I’m here,” she called back, not wanting him to worry anymore.
He sat down on the bathroom floor behind her, wrapping his arms gently around her.
“Are you ok Baby Girl?” he asked. “I’m sorry about what happened.”
She felt his body tense as he apologized. “Caleb, you have nothing to be sorry for, I am the one who should apologize. I am going to be the Luna; they want to be sure you will have an heir.” Her tears were stinging the back of her eyes.
“Baby Girl, that doesn’t matter. You matter. I love you. I want you to be ok.” They should not have done that.” His eyes began to glow the brilliant emerald green she loved so much. “Baby Girl,” he said sitting down and pulling her into his lap, “No matter what, you are mine and I am yours. If you are having our pup, or not having our pup, that will never change. You are the piece of my soul that has been missing. I will never stop loving you.”
She looked at him teary-eyed, she leaned in kissing his lips gently. She knew at that moment; he would never do anything to hurt her. He is hers now and forever.

“Mother, why can’t we just take his mate’s pup? Why must I have his pup? What if I find my mate and we have our own pup?”
Her mother slapped her hard. “I have spent my life turning you into the most feared alpha female ever. I have built you a strong pack. You must do this for me This pack will have its rightful heir, an heir with strong bloodlines, an heir to give me my long-awaited revenge. My love and his w***e mate will pay for stealing my place as Luna! They will regret what they did to me! Be ready daughter, the time to strike approaches!”

All he wanted was to get home to Sky. Everyone had to take shifts patrolling the border, tonight happened to be his night. He couldn’t help it, he missed her. Two weeks had passed since her heat ended. A few more days and they would find out if they were having a pup. He hoped they were. He wanted pups, having pups with Sky would solidify their bond further. Something told him they were having a pup. She had been very tired the last couple of days and her emotions had seemed a bit up and down. She had told him her emotions were driving her crazy. He smiled to himself as he envisioned a miniature Sky running around.
He froze. The unmistakable scent of Sky filled his senses. Why is she all the way out here? He sniffed the air; the intoxicating scent of chocolate and strawberries was moving away from him. Why was she going further into the woods? He sniffed again, “Sky!” He shifted and took off in the direction of her scent, panic driving him faster, blood had mixed with her scent.
Her scent led him to a clearing, he looked around in a panic. “Where could she be!” It seemed to be coming from a rotting log in the center of the clearing. He jumped to the other side, his eyes landing on the source, Sky’s bloodied shirt. He reached for it as he felt something sharp pierce his side. He stumbled for a moment, his vision blurred, “Sky,” he whispered as he crumpled lifelessly to the ground.

“Caleb!” Sky screamed. She sat up looking around her room for him. He had gone out on patrol; he must not have come back yet. Her clothes were soaked with sweat. She tried to brush the sweat-soaked hair from her face. She looked at her clock, 2:49 a.m. He should have been home by now. His patrol shift ended at midnight. She could feel the panic rising within her. She tried to link him through their mate link. Nothing. She screamed through the mate link, “Caleb! Answer me!” Nothing. It was as though he didn’t exist anymore. She knew he was alive because she would have felt the pain of the bond breaking if he wasn’t. “Caleb!” Her own voice broke through the silent darkness.
“Sky? Are you ok? What’s wrong?” Daphne’s said as she charged into the room. “What happened?”
“It’s Caleb, he’s not answering me! He was supposed to be home hours ago and now I can’t even link him.” Tears poured down her face. She had to find him.
Daphne’s eyes seemed to take on a faraway look. Moments later, Gideon appeared. “Any sign of him?” he asked, although he knew there hadn’t been.
Sky was in hysterics. “No, nothing. We have to find him,” she sobbed. “I need him, this little one needs him,” she was gently rubbing her abdomen.
Daphne and Gideon both looked at each other as they realized what she had said. “Oh. My. Goddess!! You’re pregnant!!!” Daphne screeched unable to contain her excitement at the news. Gideon stood silently his mouth hanging open in a weird mix of shock and excitement.
“Does Caleb know?” Dash had suddenly appeared in the doorway, his voice causing them all to jump.
“When did you get here?” Daphne asked angrily.
“You could have told us you were coming, where have you been anyway?” Gideon frowned.
“Caleb’s missing, of course, I am going to be here,” he quipped. “I was busy, “visiting a friend”,” he smirked.
“You are a pig,” Daphne said not trying to hide the disgust in her voice.
“Ok, ok, break it up you two,” Gideon broke in ending the squabble before it could begin.
“All I meant was if Caleb knew she’s Prego, maybe he shut down the link so he could go clear his head,” he shrugged.
“He didn’t know,” Sky said casting an icy glare his way.
“Hey, I’m sorry. I only meant maybe he needed a few minutes to himself to adjust to the idea of becoming a father.”
“Dash, you should shut up.” Gideon’s face reflected the shock everyone else felt at his suggestion.
“Listen, I am sorry Sky, I didn’t mean anything.” He felt bad for saying anything. He liked Sky and was worried about Caleb too.
“He didn’t know because I hadn’t told him yet. We were going to see the pack doctor in a few days to officially find out together.” Sky sobbed harder as she thought about their pup. “I have known I was pregnant since the day after my heat ended. Aria told me.” She looked around at their faces. I wanted to tell him but, I was scared. We have to find him!”
“Sky, we will find him,” Gideon said. “You need to stay here and keep yourself and that little one safe. He will never forgive us if we don’t protect you both. The pack needs you both. I am going to help you use the pack link, so you know what is being said, with your permission.” She nodded her head agreeing. He held out his hand touching her temple gently. His eyes glazed over as he opened the link. “I need all trackers, warriors, and pack members to the meeting hall in the packhouse now! We need to begin a search, Caleb is missing!” Gideon’s voice boomed sounding almost like an alpha. He came from a long line of Beta wolves known for their authority during an emergency.
“WHAT?! The angry voice of Alpha Dean boomed through the pack link. “Why wasn’t I informed of this immediately?!” he yelled making everyone flinch. “Where is Sky? She had BETTER be safe!”
“Alpha, we just found out too. Please come to the meeting hall, we need your guidance.” Gideon took his hand from Sky’s temple, “please Sky, stay here. I can’t let anything happen to you. Daphne, my love, please stay with her.” He blew a kiss her way before heading out with Dash to meet the others.
When she was sure they had left, Sky looked at Daphne. “We have to find him! I can’t just sit here!” She had stopped crying; her face now held a look of sheer determination.
“Sky, I promised to stay here with you and keep you safe,” Daphne was not going to let her leave alone.
Sky smiled. “I guess you are going with me.”
“Ok but, we have to be careful. I think we should take someone with us.”
“NO!” Sky cried. Nobody will agree to go with us without telling Alpha and Gideon where we are going.”
“Somebody will, Evan.” Daphne smiled a knowing smile. “He will do anything to help you.”
She hadn’t spoken to him since the night of the mate’s ball. She missed him. They had been friends for so long. “Ok, please call him.”
“Ok, thank you, Evan. We will see you soon.” Daphne hung up. She turned to look at Sky who was wearing holes in the floor pacing by the windows. “He will be here soon. Gideon already informed the pack that he will be coming and has permission to enter the territory.”
Her eyes grew wide. “Does Gideon know what we are planning?”
“Of course not! He would not have granted permission if he did,” she flashed Sky a sly smile. “Evan isn’t going to tell them either. Let’s try and get a little rest until Evan gets here.”
Sky walked over, laying down on the bed. Caleb’s scent still clung to the sheets offering her a small bit of comfort. She felt the bed dip as Daphne lay down next to her. She wrapped her arms around Sky. “No matter what, we will always be here for you. You are my sister.”
Sky felt a small comfort having Daphne with her. At least she didn’t feel quite so alone. She dozed a bit here and there but never for very long. She had dozed off again when the slamming door made her nearly fall off the bed.
“Sky?” a familiar voice called in the darkness.
Daphne had somehow stayed asleep. Silent sobs coming from her. “Evan? Evan, you’re here!” Sky cried. She reached out her arms to him. He came over to her, without warning, she grabbed his hands pulling him to her and hugging him tightly. “You came!” she said through the tears now pouring down her face.
“Of course, I came. You may not be my mate but, I love you. You will always be my friend. Anytime you need me, I will be there,” he said as he hugged her tighter. He inhaled her scent. “Sky, why do you smell different?” He studied her shocked face. “Oh, my Goddess! You’re pregnant!” His face flashed shock, confusion, and happiness?
She studied his face, “Evan, say something.”
A broad smile stretched across his face. “I am going to be an uncle!” he exclaimed happily. “Let’s go find the MIA daddy. He needs to be here for you and your pup.”
“Evan, he doesn’t know yet. We were going to go to the pack doctor to find out together. I found out because Aria told me.” She looked down wringing her hands together as if she had done something wrong.
“Ok, in that case, let’s go find the clueless MIA daddy.”
