40 Preparations for the Next World Part 10

“Ready?” Thaleos asked Ygritte, as they were all dressed in formal outfits. The beast tamer donned a pitch-black suit and decided to clean up his look by cleaning up his beard. His five o’clock shadow and aftershave made Ygritte a bit conscious of him, forcing herself not to look directly into his eyes. She was wearing a midnight black jumpsuit that was pretty tight at the top. Haya and Kedrick were already inside the hotel, as they were the ones that brought the food from the Lagish Interpoint. Entering the lobby, they immediately caught everyone’s attention at how perfect they looked for each other—or that’s what Ygritte secretly thinks to herself. She knew it was because most of their university friends almost worshipped the ground that Thaleos walked on. Just like Haya’s situation, although the druid was considerably younger than the beast tamer, she was still part of their university circles. Thaleos insisted that she came along because he knew how she loved their Psychology Department. Even though Ygritte was a bit shy at first, she finally accepted—she was glad to have brought at least one fancy outfit with her to the Melam Base. Upon passing the lobby and heading straight into one of the Victorian halls, Ygritte and Thaleos immediately saw the drunk pair of men walking around from table to table. The beast tamer just shook his head in laughter as Ygritte smiled at the two men’s shenanigans. “There he is, Thaleos the Tyrannical Beast Tamer! The number one psychologist in Ellis Town! Girls in Hainely Uni go crazy over him.” Kedrick shouted from across the ballroom, making everyone turn their heads around towards his direction. The bearded man was embarrassed by the attention and Ygritte found it a bit adorable, but she knew how the man hated being the center of attention. She attempted to pull him to their designated table but was pushed aside from the crowd surrounding the beast tamer. Thaleos was pulled and shoved as their classmates raved about his adventures. The beast tamer gave her an apologetic look and she just gave a toothy grin back. Sitting in their designated table, she saw how everyone was talking Thaleos’ ears off as they were amazed by how he’s the player with the highest level on earth. Kedrick and Haya joined in the fun and tried breaking the crowd as to not suffocate the beast tamer. When he was finally free from the circle, he sat in their designated table and let out a relieved sigh. “Looks like you’re still the hero of Ellis Town.” Ygritte mentioned and before Thaleos could even disagree with the statement, the lights suddenly dimmed and Ryan appeared on the stage. “Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Hainely University’s first ever alumni reunion in the new apocalyptic world. I’m Ryan Hemsworth, batch president for the 2009 class!” Everyone loudly cheered and clapped as they saw the man everyone knew. The ballroom was filled to the brim and had about 50 people. Everyone was elegantly dressed, but Thaleos knew that they were probably hiding weapons here and there. They knew that it was never safe, regardless of where you go. “So before we get unto the activities, feel free to eat first. We’ve acquired some of the greatest cuisines from earth and the Lagash Interpoint.” Just as the waiters and waitressed were placing the food on their tables, the room suddenly dimmed again. This time, it seemed like there was a black out. After a couple of seconds of people just panicking, one of the spotlights turned on and the familiar god with red curls appeared. “Nirah.” Ygritte muttered in an angry tone. He knew that it was this god in particular who caused the death of his father. The day of the apocalypse, it was Nirah who led the chaos in their location. She felt her blood boil in range. “Wow, am I feeling the hatred tonight. I’m almost scared.” The snake god mockingly said. He was wearing his classic golden tunic with a red cape, it meshed well with his tawny skin muscular exterior. “Alright, here’s the thing, kids,” The ginger god paused to create suspense and tension in the crowd, which seemed to be extremely effective as the crowd suddenly started chatting to each other fear, “Hush now!” The snake god’s voice echoed around the room, it sounded like it was bouncing off the walls, at the same, like the god was shouting in their ear. When everyone finally became silent, the god started, “Alright, I’m so happy some of the best fighters are in this room because Irkalla and I decided to create a new mission for you guys!” Everyone felt their heart stop when they heard the word “mission.” “f**k, here we go again.” Kedrick voiced out in frustration, as the snake god seemed to be reveling in the anxiety of people. After looking around the room and being satisfied with what he saw, the god continued and said, “The mission’s pretty simple. You just need to kill all the mutant monsters and crazy chefs in the hotel. If you fail to kill all of them in two hours, into the Gods’ Playground Cube you all go. Good luck!” The god then disappeared in a puff of smoke. Although everyone was panicking at first, the past half a year taught them they had to be prepared at all situations. Just like a movie, everyone suddenly shifted their outfits into their fighting suits. The women just remove their skirts, revealing some tight pants, weapons, and potions. The men merely took off their coats and unsheathed their weapons. “We’re gonna burn this house to the ground.” Ryan muttered with a grin, as he took out his golden sword. Suddenly, the room grew extremely quiet and then they suddenly heard dozens of feet stomping towards the ballroom. Preparing to battle the monsters hiding beyond the ballroom door, they were shocked when spider-like creatures feel off the ceiling and attacked some of them using their venom. Thaleos and Ygritte immediately took out their arrows, as Haya and Kedrick covered both of their sides. The beast tamer and druid were designated for long range attacks, while the other pair handled all the melee attacks. Drawing one arrow after another, Ygritte and Thaleos have successfully hit the spiders in the ceilings. Haya and Kedrick, although still a bit drunk, managed to efficiently fight off the other spiders that were trying to bite them with their long fangs. Once all the spiders were killed, suddenly someone kicked the door opened and undead crazy-looking chefs entered the ballroom. Ryan took out a blinding powder specifically dedicated for the undead and threw it at the first group. The participants then all tried their best to stab the crazy chefs. But the group behind the blinded chefs, suddenly went berserk and started blindly attacking everybody. What made the fight hard wasn’t because the undead were skilled, it’s because they didn’t feel pain and fought like they had nothing to lose. There’s nothing scarier than someone fighting with nothing to lose. They know they can give their all and wouldn’t care if they died. As everyone was tirelessly slashing the group of undead, two mutant monsters suddenly busted through the door, breaking some parts of the wall. These two monsters looked to be different than most of the creatures they saw in Mount Uruk and Mount Nergal. These beasts were made of pure machine save for their gorilla-like faces. Their heads almost touched the room’s ceiling and they had wheels for legs. They moved at incredible speed and threw some golden bananas on the floor. Although everyone was confused at first, they realized the effects of the banana as it melted into this sticky substance that glued their feet on the grounds. Thaleos’ Igigu team somehow managed to jump up on the tables before the liquid reached their feet. The beast tamer suddenly shouted, “We’ve already faced the undead before, you three can focus on killing them, then help me kill of the golden gorillas.” They all nodded, and then the three created a strategy of their own, where Ygritte would use her skills to compel some of the undead to fight each other and Kedrick would heal the guests who were being slashed to death by the undead right now. Haya knew that he had to activate his Berserker skill again, it deeply terrified him, but he decided to take that leap of faith when he saw how his friends were suffering. Thaleos quickly got to work and activated his Anger Strike skill. He opened up his duel space and took one of the wolf-eagles. After instructing it to fly near the golden gorillas, he jumped one of their shoulders and hit them with the Anger Strike skill. Within seconds, one of the golden gorilla’s convulsed at the electronic and mental shock. Thaleos took out his black katana and stabbed the mutant’s face. The painful attack caused the golden gorilla to roll out the entrance part of the hall, hitting some of the crazy undead chefs on its way. The beast tamer was still riding on its back as his sword was stuck on the gorilla’s face. Seeing that its teammate almost dying, the other golden gorilla followed the fighting pair and rolled behind them. This gave Kedrick, Haya, and Ygritte the time to finish off the undead. Ryan brought out one of the bombs he had in his pocket and when asked to explain what it was, the knight responded, “This was made by our alchemist. She says that this was made to undo poisons or sticky attacks.” Feeling relieved at seeing the potion, they quickly threw the bomb against the entrance and watched how their friends escape the sticky mess. Once all of them were free, they headed straight to where Thaleos was by following the golden gorillas’ destructive trails. Upon arriving in the lobby, they saw how Thaleos was almost bleeding to death from one of the mutant’s spiky arm. The beast tamer quickly activated both his Anger Strike Skill and Bloody Rage Skill. He took out his wolf-eagle and baited them to near each other. He quickly tapped unto his Bloody Rage Skill, increasing his adrenaline and attack speed. This last bout of energy pushed him to move around in circles, while attacking the two golden gorillas in small bouts of the Anger Strike Skill. The small electrical attacks caused some of their parts to go haywire and the mental effect caused them to go delusional. As the mutants were half beasts and machines, the attacked worked extremely well. The crowd just watched in amazement as they saw Thaleos attacking the large mutants at lightning-speed, as the gorillas were fighting each other. After a couple of minutes, the golden gorilla’s metallic and golden parts started falling apart, until their wheel finally gave way. Kedrick shouted, “Timber!” Making everyone run out of sight as the two mutants fell on the lobby floor in an explosive thud. Seeing that everyone was safe, one of the alumni attendants spoke, “That was so f*****g cool.”
