Chapter 22 Maggie stared at the sheer rock wall Tammond rowed them quickly toward, his gaze fixed at a point near the base of the cliff. Maggie narrowed her eyes, trying to see what he saw in the shadow. The darkness at the water’s edge had depth, and the blackness seemed much thicker than any shadow she had ever encountered. “Is that the dark place?” Maggie whispered. “It is.” Tammond held his paddle in the water, slowing them as the tip of their boat entered the darkness. Maggie only had time for a quick glance behind before the shadow swallowed all the light. “Tammond,” Maggie whispered, grateful to hear her voice could penetrate the veil of blackness. “Tammond?” “Yes,” Tammond said.
