Chapter 21AVXHIU GOT HER FIRST glimpse of the famous villa as they came around a bend in the country road. The Horxha house huddled on a small island of trees that provided shade. The sole point of access to the fenced-off fields was a wire-strung metal gate that blocked the road. They slowed to a stop, and she got off to push it open.
Avxhiu was excited. This was like a wild dream. Closing the gate, she jumped up on the comfortable seat. Slowly, they sidled up a long strip of asphalt through the fields towards the main house. The men came out to meet them from a separate building, the servant’s quarters, Italians, she guessed. They looked closely at Wallenbergi as they passed. Not a word was spoken. They had expected this arrival.
