~Ruby~
I blinked my eyes open, but suddenly shut them with a hiss as I found myself momentarily blinded by the brightness. With a few blinks, my eyes finally adjusted to the lights. Everything here was white, and it felt like I was in an endless tunnel.
"I guess I really I'm dead."
"Ah, finally. There you're."
I turned at the voice and found myself staring at feet that were covered by dainty white slippers. I sat up, and some how, I found myself face to face with a woman, a few inches separating us.
She was extremely beautiful, her appearance ethereal and nothing that could be compared to earthly standards. Her hair was very white and she was extremely pale too. Surprisingly, her eyes were brown which made her dark eyebrows and long eyelashes standout. I guess it was accurate to describe her as 'out of this world's because that was what she truly was.
There was a gentleness about her, something that wanted to make you lay your head on her lap and tell her about you deepest troubles and worries as she patted your head. But at the same time, I sensed her powerful aura.
There was a consistent click-click sound and I found her hands busy. She was knitting. Now that was something that I hadn't expected to occur in the afterlife.
"I've been waiting for you my dear." She said, smiling gently at me as she continued to knit.
"Oh. Okay."
Everything made sense now. While I had not been entirely satisfied with the ongoing events of my life, I was ready to move onto my next one. That's why maybe this lady had been stationed here, to guide my soul. So be it.
"Ruby."
I turned, frowning at her in puzzlement. " How did you know my name?"
Again, she smiled. "I know everyone's name."
"Well, what is your name?"
"Luna."
My eyes were the size of golf balls and my jaw was rolling off the floor. If this dimension had any floors. "Luna? Guardian of the Lycans, Mother of all Werewolves, Light of the Moon and Queen of the Night?"
Her smile widened, this time revealing perfect pearly white teeth. " Yes."
I continued to stare, completely amazed. If I were on earth, no one could have believed me that I had actually met her. I looked away in embarrassment when I realized I had been staring for too long. She really was Luna, and I was here in her presence.
"Are you here to guide me to the afterlife?"
"No." Huh? What did she mean by that? " Quite the opposite actually. I'm here to send you back to earth."
"I beg your pardon?"
"I'm afraid darling, that it wasn't quite your time yet to die. Which only brings us to one thing. I'm sending you right back. I'll just have to turn the clock a few times back, make a few clicks and turns here and there....the rest will be played out according to the decisions you take."
I stared her silently trying to wrap around everything she had just said. This was quite a lot to take in. Even though I was dead.
"So I'm going back to earth?"
"Hmmm." Luna hummed, not even looking up from her knitting. This was definitely not something I had expected.
Unexpectedly, she stopped, put her yarn aside and walked the few steps to me, covering the distance between us.
" I need you to listen and listen carefully. You weren't supposed to die. That much you and I now know. There's a powerful mastermind behind all this and they're going to come after you and those you care about, all because they want the power that dwells within you."
Power? What power? I was just a mere enhanced human being. I wasn't a fairy or a Valkyrie not a vampire or werewolf or one of the winged creatures. I was plain old me.
"That said, don't be afraid of them. You're much more powerful than them. And, when I do get you back on earth, it'll be around the time that you escaped. This time, you'll be able to run, but not for long. The Council will catch you, but when they do, tell them about the House of Mirrors."
"Got it?" Luna asked, a serious expression on her face I couldn't help but nod in affirmation. Her face was graced with that ethereal smile again before she politely asked. "Take my hand."
I did as I was told .
"Remember, I'll always be by your side, but I can only intervene when I'm supposed too. Our time has run out, so I can't hold onto you any longer. You ready to live again?"
"Wait-" but I have a few questions. That's what I wanted to say, but I found myself plunging down a tunnel of light, before everything went black.
I startled awake again, seemingly out of breath and gasping for air. The air was damp and cold, and as I looked around, I found myself in the same crusty dungeon I had been locked in. The difference was I wasn't in chains and neither were the doors to the dungeon closed.
I stumbled out of there and as I looked around, I found that everyone was asleep. No matter how much noise I made, no one even twitched or woke up.
It's Luna's doing. I thought.
Without wasting time, I tailed it out of there, disappearing into the night.
