Chapter Seven

~Ruby~ "Stupid Alpha and that stupid mate bond and those equally stupid tingles. " I grumbled under my breath, wondering why he had to come here looking for me, just to ask stupid questions and then leave like he just didn't waste my time. Yes, we were bonded since that goon had to go and mark me. But of all people, my body would have to respond to that f**cking werewolf bastard. I could barely hold a proper conversation with him, not with my body behaving that way. And then he had to go and command me to look at him, like I was some spoiled werewolf mutt. Anyways, whatever. I had to figure out a way to keep my control, before I ended up doing something stupid. After it was revealed that the House of Mirrors had shown up, the dungeons had been called off, and although my arms were still pretty much shackled with chains, i was left to freely roam the place. There were still guards watching my every move though.. The place was filled with people of all creatures running about, but it seemed like everything was finally coming to a close. I loitered some more, until a guard led me away to where the elders were gathered for my trial. Apparently, it was also where the house of mirrors also was. As soon as I got there, I gasped, delighted and completely awestruck. The House of Mirrors was nothing I had envisioned at all in my mind. It was nothing like I had expected. From the moment I had stepped out, I had felt the presence of its power, causing goosebumps to appear on my arms and the hairs on my skin to stand still. I had envisioned an actual house, perhaps a large mansion or even a small cottage house surrounded by a few mirrors here and there, but it was nothing like it. It was in fact far from it. Putting it simply, the House of Mirrors was shaped like an antique 18th century dollhouse, big enough for an eight year old girl to play with. It was metallic grey, had 16 windows and only one door on its first floor. They were all made from mirrors. Our reflections were perfectly clear but I hadn't expected the windows and door to be see-through too. I could see everything clearly, from the teapots, cups and plates that sat in the little kitchen, to all the little bathrooms, the chairs in the living room and right to the entrance. It was all mirrors, and glass at the same time. See through, but altogether reflective. On the outside, two holographic willow trees surrounded the house, their branches swaying like a cool slow breeze was rustling through. However, there was nothing like the wind here. It was eerily quiet and peaceful. "It's enchanting. Isn't it? " Master Milagros voice echoed in my ears as he sidled next to me. "Yes, " I breathed out, my fingers slightly twitching from wanting to touch it. There was an echo of silence between us, before Master spoke up again. "When we're you going to tell me that you were already mated to Jared? And that he had already made you his Luna? " I sighed, not surprised at his questioning. I had already suspected that it would eventually come. "Honestly, I didn't think about it. " I told him, and it was true. I would go as far as saying that I had completely forgotten about it. After being dragged from place to place all day and night and basically being treated like a criminal, I couldn't help but ponder the aftermath of all the ongoing events, especially after my conversation with that so called mate of mine. "When this is all over, and you're freed," Master continued, when I remained silent. " You do realize you're going to leave the compound and live in his pack? " I frowned, realizing that he was indeed right. I hadn't really thought that far about all this. Something else had however, caught my attention. "But, " I faced him, "How are you sure I'll leave this place unscathed? " I knew my Master didn't believe that I was guilty of this crime. From my past life, he had supported me to the very end, even when I met my end, but the little doubts inside wanted me to confirm if it was still that way, just like in my past life. "You are my student, little Red. Aside from your grandmother, I know you best. Guaranteed, you're stubborn and break a lot of rules here and here, " He chuckled when I glared his way, "I know you'd never do something like that, nor commit a crime." I felt my eyes water, but I pushed back the tears. "Thank you, Master. " After that, we both enjoyed the comfortable silence, but it was very short lived. After two hours, the preparations for the House of Mirrors were completed. "It's time. Let's go. " Master mumbled under his breath, enough for me to hear. I nodded, following behind him, a council guard following us closely behind. When we got at the site, I noticed a few changes. Unlike earlier, there were a few additions to the House of Mirrors. Surrounding all four of its corners were diamond rods, holding an equally diamond tent that flowed all the way to the ground, encircling the House inside it. "The nets and the rods are here to withhold the power of the House within its perimeters and not affect anyone outside. " Master explained, in a tone only I could hear. I nodded, signaling that I had understood. Diamonds were poor conductors of heat and electricity. Because of that, I suspected the House's power flowed in an electronic state, hence the use of diamond for this process. However, that didn't mean the House's powers were limited to this. Master Milagros walked beside me, guiding me inside and towards the tent. "When you get inside, don't hesitate to touch the house with both your hands, and don't let go. Not until the end, and no matter how much it hurts. Not unless you want to die of course. " "Got it" I said, then walked inside the tent, and headed straight to where the House sat. However, nothing, happened. I made three more attempts before I glanced back to where Master Milagros and the other elders stood, uncertain on what to do next. They all looked puzzled too. And unsure of what to do. There was a sudden shift in the energy around me, and I found a radiant orb of light, floating over the house and a few inches over my head. It glowed so brightly, it hurt just looking at it. Even that being said, there was something hauntingly beautiful about it. None of the elders had moved from their positions, so I stayed rooted in mine. We all watched on, our gazes transfixed on the Orb as it made it's way to the crowd of people standing a few feet from the tent. With a gentle gracefulness the Orb floated its way to the small crowd of people that stood, their gazes transfixed fixed on it. First the Elders, the Council men, the officers and then to the Alpha and his men. It stopped right where the Alpha stood, hovering a few inches over his head. "Alpha Jared Blackthorn of the Silver Mist pack, you'll be tested alongside Ruby Winter, finest of the warriors of the Order. As she is your mate, therefore your Luna, she shall not go through the trial alone." "Of course, milady. " Murmurs arose within the crowd, but they quickly hushed down as soon as the Alpha gave his consent. I too was taken aback with how fast he had agreed to it, but with everything that was going on, it shouldn't have been surprising. It didn't take him long, and shortly after he was doing as he had been commanded, and just a few minutes after, we were standing side by side. I took a glance at him, and with a nod of confirmation, we both reached out, our hands stretched. The Alpha and I both made contact with the Orb at the same time. And that's when I felt it. The power as it flowed through my veins. This was a thousand times worse than any beating I had ever taken through my enter life. It felt like tiny needles were being shoved through my veins, and every inch of my body, thousands and thousands of times again. My body jerked backwards in pain, my brain screaming at me to let go, but Master Milagros' warning rang through the back of my mind. I could feel myself slowly going in and out of consciousness, my teeth gritting so hard until I couldn't hold the blood curling scream that I had tried to hold in. Despite the pain that was forcing it's way through out my body, I was more than looking forward to this. After all, this was my innocence we were talking about. And once I was proven innocent, I would gain back the one thing I was longing for. My freedom.
