Inara's POV CONTINUES.
"You are getting married," my father said, and I gave him a confused look, wondering whether he was right or if he perhaps confused me for his dearest daughter.
" What?" I asked, and he threw me a hard glare, making me wonder what I said wrong.
"I hate repeating myself," he told me, and I kept quiet, looking down, before looking up at him again.
"But I do not understand," I told him, and he sighed.
"Stephanie, I will not be going to the moonlight pack in the next two days to get married to the prince," he told me, and I gasped.
"You would be," he completed, and I arched my eyebrow at him, not believing what I was hearing.
"Father, what did you just say?" I asked, just to be sure, and I heard what he said correctly.
"I told you, I hate repeating myself." He growled furiously, and I gasped, realizing I truly heard clearly.
"You do know, that is not possible, father. I am your last daughter, illegitimate also," I reminded him, just in case he had forgotten, and my father just grinned at me.
"Oh! I know," he said, with a sick smirk, to which I grimaced. " But they do not, do they?" He asked, and I gasped, realizing where my father was heading.
"You want to trick them?" I asked with a gasp, not wanting to believe my father could stoop this low and try to cheat.
"Well," he began with a shrug. "Like I said earlier, they would not know," he said, looking at me deeply.
"And I also doubt you would let them know the truth if you do not want to lose your head," he added.
"That would never happen, Father," I told him, and he smiled. "Because I would not be going," I told him, and the smile instantly wiped off his face.
"You dare disobey my orders?" He yelled.
"I am not your father; I am just trying to save you from committing the worst mistake of your life by trying to trick the moonlight," I explained, and he scoffed, throwing me a look filled with disgust. Look, I was already used to
"And who are you?" My father growled, and I kept quiet.
"I am not going to substitute my sister's father," I told him.
"Then get ready to lose your filthy mother," he said, and I threw him a sharp, horrified look.
"You would not," I gasped, and he gave me an evil smirk.
" Oh! I will; I am even tired of paying her hospital bills anyway," he said, and I felt tears at the brim of my eyelid.
"Why are you doing this?" I yelled at him in tears.
"Oh, stop being pathetic and choose." He said. "Your mother or your freedom?" He asked, and I chose without hesitation, knowing the kind of monster I had as a father.
"My mother," I told him, and he smiled.
"That's more like it, dear," he said before leaving my room, leaving me to cry all I wanted.
'Why was everything going from bad to worse?' I wondered and looked out to the sky, wondering if the moon goddess could witness everything going on, and if she could, why was she not saving me?
My mother was a maid in the palace, a young, beautiful lady. My father, who was lusting after her, r***d her one night without protection, and she got pregnant. Just so he could save his worthless image, my father took my mother in as his concubine, but he never gave her the treatment of a concubine; she was still treated like a maid and was mocked by almost everyone.
I was born two years after Stephanie was born. During my birth, Stephanie's mom suddenly fell ill and died due to an unknown illness. Rumors began to break out. I was a child with bad luck, especially since things never went well for me or some people since I was born.
Stephanie despises me with passion and always does whatever it takes to see me miserable. When I was 15 years old, my mother suddenly fell ill with an unknown illness, which made her lose her memories of everyone around her. Father did not want to treat her at all, for her bills were too expensive.
But I pleaded with him too, and I even started working in my house as a slave, just to try and repay the debts. My mom, when she was still herself, protected me from the cruelty of the world and never allowed any evil to befall me.
Now that she is sick, I could never abandon her. Even if it meant taking my life to see her well, I would gladly do so, for she deserved more. Tears continued to roll down my cheeks as I remembered all the humiliating incidents I and my mom went through.
Just then, my door barged open, and I raised my head to see Stephanie walking in with an evil smirk.
"How do you feel, with your marriage coming up in two days?" She asked, and I gasped.
'Does this witch perhaps have something to do with this?' I wondered.
