Chapter 2

Meanwhile, Reagan's lips curved into a cold smile. He knows the woman wanted to kill him. He could easily sense the restlessness. Turning his back on her, he tried to provoke her to do what she planned to do but she did nothing. He could sense the wolf in her, trying to make a decision-to fight or run away. A smirk formed on his lips. After maneuvering the boat away and making sure they're far enough from the coast, he returned to the cabin. The woman was still sitting there, glaring at him. He couldn't care less. All he wanted to do is to be far from the place as much as possible. Should the woman try something funny, he will not hesitate to kill her. "If you're scared of blood turn around," he said as he took of the remainders of his clothes and pulled out a box of matches. He lit one match and lit the oil lamp in the cabin. Taking the woman's blade, he roasted it over the flame and with one swipe, he cut his wound. Reagan hissed in pain as the blood spurted out. Adriana didn't turn her back and blood sprayed to her face. She doesn't feel queasy with blood but the fact that the man didn't even bother to do his business far from her makes her want to smack him. She grimaced and she didn't bother hiding the disdain on her face. He noticed it but he couldn't care less as he continued to treat his wound. He heard the woman muttering something and then she said, "Let me do it. I am going dizzy with how you treat your wound!" Adriana took the knife from him and surprisingly, he found himself giving it to her. This woman could stab him and get away with it but for some reason, at that sliver of moment, he found himself entrusting his bloody life to her. She examined his wounds for a while before she started to do what needs to be done. She took charge of treating his wound for him. While his cuts were ruthless, Adriana's cuts were clean and precise. He had to grunt and groan a lot because of the pain but he'd been to worse before. This should be nothing. Besides, the woman's hands were gentle as she treated him. After a few cuts, the skin and flesh were sliced open, and the bullet was dug out. He had to bite his lip to stop himself from making too much sound. It was too painful but he doesn't have any other choice. The sound of the bullet falling down the cold floor made him feel relieved. When he looked at the woman, he saw her too focused on what she was doing. He couldn't help but wonder if it is this woman's nature to be always helpful even as he pointed a gun at her earlier. She took something and it was when he realized she was going to stitch his wound. He knew it was going to be painful so he took a cloth and stuffed it inside his mouth. The woman didn't seem to mind the blood at all. In fact, she did is so swiftly that he couldn't believe it. Then she turned and took what looked like a first aid kit and handed it to him. "Everything you need for that is in there. I think you can take care of that yourself. I did the major ones already," she said. But he was looking at her questioningly. He is very curious about one thing. Finally, he said, "The way you treated my wound was beyond normal. What do you do?" "I studied medicine," she explained. It made sense. He found it weird since wolves can heal pretty quickly. Even at the moment as he looked at his wound, he could see his wound healing speedily. "You're pretty skilled. How do you plan to use that skill? Treat humans?" he asked. The mocking in his tone was evident and he knew he was pissing her off. But for some reason, his wolf side gets really excited especially when he sees her reaction. "Also treat clumsy wolves like you who can't dodge a bullet," she replied. Reagan's mouth twisted into a wicked grin. "Although you're not very skilled at other things." The woman's eyes narrowed. "I don't care." "I can teach you, though. If you let me." "Like I said, I don't care," she repeated sternly. "I can teach you to be more convincible when having s*x with a man. Those people almost found me." Her mouth dropped and Reagan found her reactions entertaining. "Not convincible? You wouldn't get a hard on if it was not convincible!" "I had to had a hard on so it would be convincible. Don't worry, once I am healed, I can teach you how to make a man have a real hard on." A grin flashed across his face and the woman's cheeks flushed. It amuses him how she blushes like that. It was even more amusing that she was looking at him as if she was moments away from snapping his neck or cutting his neck. She's no ordinary woman. She's a feisty one and his human and wolf side both like it. Reagan jerked his head to the box behind her and said, "You can find spare clothes there. I think you need to change." She looked at her dress, sprayed with his blood. But then she glared at him. "I will not change my clothes in front of you." A wicked grin curved his lips. "You want me to close my eyes? Is there even anything to see?" His eyes started to travel from her face to her clothes. He just noticed that they were tattered. She looked like she ran inside the woods and had her dress torn by the tree branches. But thanks to that, Reagan could clearly see the fair and delicate skin underneath. His wolf was whining underneath him, wanting to take over and take the woman right then and there. He had to do a few breaths to calm his nerves down. He doesn't think this woman would like it if his wolf would take over. Adriana couldn't help but feel disgusted with the way the man was looking at her. Even though she could only see his eyes and his mouth from the mask he was wearing, she knows exactly where he was looking. Although her wolf side is extremely excited with the man's smell, she's had enough of men. They're all assholes and she knows instantly that this man in front of her is the second biggest asshole of them all. The first one would be Julian. "Does my blood-covered dress bother you that much? Scared of blood?" she asked, angling her head. "I have no complaints at all. Blood covered torn dress looks good on you, in fact. However, I was just being kind for offering you a chance to change your clothes because I know you're uncomfortable." Her eyes narrowed at him and she lifted both his hands. "I will not do something to you. You have my word." As much as she hates to admit it, the man was right. She was slightly uncomfortable with her clothes. Without removing her gaze from the man, she opened the box and indeed, there was a spare dress there. She didn't want to think whose dress it was. What was more important for her at the moment was to change her goddamned dress. "Turn around," she said. The man rolled his eyes before he turned his back on her. He was still putting something on his wound even as it was almost healing. Adriana immediately removed her dress. It was a hard feat since she has to hide behind the small box. She had a feeling that the man would suddenly turn around. When she was done, she came out behind the box and stood on the side. Eyeing her old dress, she tossed it into the river. "I'm going outside," she said and she didn't wait for the man to respond. She immediately went out of the small cabin and monitored the state of their boat. The moment she was out, she was greeted by the cool air. The sound of the water echoed as the boat sailed to the other side of the river. The surrounding was foggy and she couldn't see what was on the other side. However, Adriana stared at it, as though she was trying to see through it. And then everything came back to her. The intense emotion flooded into her all at once. She is very aware that she's emanating the intense anger but she couldn't care less. Three years had already passed and she has finally returned. Three years ago, she didn't expect her life to turn out the way it did. Her mother was falsely accused of murder. While Julian, her ex-fiancé, conspired with her half-sister, Maeve. They both put Adriana into a sack together with some rocks and threw her into the river. She vowed to make them pay for what they did and they will have to prepare themselves for the coming storm. She could still clearly remember what Maeve told her before. Maeve was openly telling her to die so she can become the only daughter of the family. Maeve liked Julian for a long time and thought that if she's gone, then she will have Julian all for herself. Everyone in the family was in on the plan. They all did her and her mother dirty. They all conspired to kill her and her father even went as far as trapping her in the middle of the ocean. Her own family wanted her dead and now she's going back. She will be the ghost that will hunt them one by one. She had made the vow for a long time and now she will fulfill it no matter what. It's been years and yet the horror was so fresh as though it happened just yesterday. Her anger was still there and her thirst for revenge was stronger than ever. Adriana closed her eyes as she tried to calm herself down. She didn't notice her nails already wounded her palms. Her wounds instantly healed the moment she relaxed her hands. She noticed the man standing just outside the cabin. She didn't notice he was already out and didn't even hear him move. The man was stealthy and therefore, dangerous. He was wrapping some bandages around his wound whilst looking at her. From the way he was looking at her, she knew he noticed about her surge of emotions earlier. His eyes glowed underneath the mask but it was quick and was gone as soon as it came. "The weather's starting to get better," he started but she paid him no mind. She heard him take steps towards her and the next thing she knew, he was standing next to her, overlooking the expanse of the fog covering the other side of the river. "Don't talk to me," she spat and looked elsewhere. "I'm saying that the weather is too good for you to be frowning like that," he said and she couldn't help but look at him. "What is it to you if I am frowning or not? It's none of your business." The man turned and leaned back on the boat's railing, bracing his elbows on it before giving her a side glance. "It's just that, you dared to wield a knife against me. It doesn't suit you to be all gloomy and s**t when you're a badass." She rolled her eyes and averted her gaze once again. And then suddenly, she felt a piece of clothing draped over her head. She turned to look at the man and he was still looking at her. "Put that on. Your dress is not thick enough. We're going right into the fog. I don't want to take care of a sick woman." Adriana gave the man an incredulous look. "I don't want to be taken care by you, either!" The man raised his brow. The gesture alone made Adriana want to smack him in the head. "Oh? You might change your mind once you experience how good I am at taking care of women." She didn't hide the disdain on her face. She realized it was pointless to talk to this man. He's a shameless flirt. "We're nearing the center of the river. The wind and current can carry the boat to the other side. You should go in." She glanced at him and then started to walk away when the man suddenly held her arm. The moment she felt the contact, it was like an electric bolt that she pulled her arm abruptly. She couldn't fathom the audacity of this man to freely touch her. "Why are you so jumpy?" "Why are you touching me?" The man raised his brow and then let out a scoff before giving her a handkerchief. She looked at him in confusion but then he said, "Wipe your tears. What are you crying about in broad daylight, anyway?" Adriana couldn't help but mutter a silent curse. As if it wasn't embarrassing that she made out with this stranger earlier and now he saw her crying? Her human side wanted to run away from embarrassment but her wolf side wanted to walk closer to her and feel him more. To rest her head on his broad chest as she feels his hand caressing her hair. From the way the man was grinning at her, she knows he could feel her wolf side. She's just good enough at concealing her pheromones that the man doesn't realize her wolf wants to sleep with him. She did not respond and just wiped her face with her the handkerchief. Then she saw him scratch the back of his head before he fished something out of his pocket and gave it to her. Questioningly, she took it and when she opened her hand, she realized it was a necklace. "What's this?" she asked. "I'm sure you exactly what that is." She had the sudden urge to wallop him left and right. "I know what this is. I meant to ask why are you giving me this?" Reagan couldn't believe he was giving something to a woman he doesn't even know. What's more, the necklace was quite special to him. Then again, she did save his life earlier. Giving her something is the least she could do. "Stop asking questions and just take it," he said but to his surprise, the woman took his hand and placed the necklace back in his palm. "I can't take something from someone I don't know. I don't need a necklace." This woman is hella stubborn, he couldn't help but mumble. Before she could even walk away, he grabbed her hand and gave her the necklace again. "Take it," he said. He can't take back something he had decided to give. The necklace is important to him but he doesn't need it anymore. He heard somewhere that giving a gift to a sad woman could make them happy. He doesn't have anything to give her so the necklace was a perfect choice. "Take it. It's my way of thanking you for saving me earlier. Also, I...I figured that could stop you from crying. Are those reasons good enough?" She looked at him, still skeptical and then she said, "I wasn't crying." "Yeah, sure. Whatever you say. Just take the necklace." "You didn't steal this from somewhere, did you?" He gave her an incredulous look. "Do you think someone with a face like this would steal?" he said, gesturing to his face. "Looks can be deceiving." She shrugged but then she looked at the necklace. "Where did you get this?" "It's my mother's," he said and the woman looked at him with wide eyes. "She didn't have many good things and everything was taken away from her. That necklace was the only thing she had left. She gave it to me before passing it away. That's what kept her going during those dark days." She gasped as he looked at him. "Then why are you giving this to me if this is your mother's? Shouldn't you keep this?" He looked at her. "I don't know what you're going through but I hoped that necklace could somehow make you feel better. It's the only thing I have to pay you. Take it. I don't like owing to other people." The woman was silent and he was silently praying that she wouldn't give it back. Then she said, "This is too precious." She looked at him and went on, "I will not take this, however, I shall hold on to this necklace for you. Once you decide you want it back, you can come to Venderly Manor and find me." The man raised his brow. "Venderly Manor? Isn't that the Roseinhart's property?" She bit her lip and nodded. "You're a Roseinhart?" he asked and she nodded again. She couldn't help but notice how the man's tone went cold. Her wolf side was suddenly on high alert when she could sense the killing intent coming from him. She knows this man and Julian has some issues but she doesn't really know much about it. "There's only one daughter in the Roseinhart family. Are you perhaps...Maeve Roseinhart?" She couldn't help but let out a sigh. "There is only one legitimate Roseinhart daughter and that is me, Adriana Roseinhart. Maeve is an illegitimate daughter brought into the family by my father's mistress." His eyes narrowed at her. "Adriana Roseinhart?" He looked like he was trying to remember something. "I am Adriana Clarence Roseinhart, daughter of Jacinda Roseinhart." From behind the mask, she could see his eyes widen the moment she mentioned the name of her mother. It took him a while to say something but then she saw a hint of a smile on his face. "Miss Adriana," he said. "You certainly gave people something to talk about when you died an unexpected death." "I didn't die, sorry to disappoint." She looked at the man. "But...do you know me?" She suddenly realized that she didn't know the man completely. She faced him completely, holding the necklace tightly in her hands. "Who are you exactly?"
