Chapter 10

ADRIANA'S POV The events of the night caused quite a stir and not for the reasons that her family wanted. Nobody expected her to come back. Everyone expected her to be dead and yet here she is. Another reason was the arrival of Reagan Terranova and declaring to recognize her as the only real Roseinhart. That's definitely going to cause a stir. Katherine was sent to the hospital. Maeve followed her there and Mrs. Racquela and Harris didn't dare to bother Adriana for the time being. Adriana managed to return to the courtyard where her mother had lived before and settled down peacefully. However, she stayed up until the moon was high in the sky, and there was no sign of movement around her. Could it be that the man who said he would see her tonight was just making an offhand remark? He could probably just have made it all up. Her nerves were on edge, her wolf side was restless, and her body was extremely tired. She had no choice but to put out the light and lie down in bed. But she couldn't sleep and her instincts were telling her that something is not right. So she got out of bed, walked to the window, and opened it. She thought that with the moonlight outside if someone really came, she would see them more clearly from the shadows. She couldn't understand why she was anticipating his arrival. She should be sleeping now instead of waiting for him. But she found herself pushing the window open and when she did, she was met with a pair of deep, dark eyes, making her stumble a step back. Words were stuck in her throat. The man was still dressed in military uniform, but it was different from the one he wore earlier. But all the same, he looked regal and graceful--like he was born to wear that kind of clothes and not the other way around. There was a flash of surprise on his face, followed by a smile with an ambiguous meaning. "I wasn't expecting you'd wait for me. And opened the windows too so I don't have to break it," he said, his grin getting wider. Before Adriana could respond, he had already propped himself up on the window sill with both hands and jumped in. She stepped back with wide eyes as she looked at him. But the moment she did that, her foot slipped on something, causing her to lose balance and that's when he caught her around her waist. They were too close for her own comfort but deep down inside her, her wolf side was whimpering like an animal in heat and she didn't like it. What her wolf feels is also what she can feel and she doesn't like feeling like it with this man. "Careful now, sweetie. Don't look too scared now," he said and even with the dim light, she could clearly see his eyes, bore into hers--as though undressing her. "Y-You..." She never stuttered around a man but Reagan is just something else. The staggering confidence and arrogance could have been annoying to her but in him, she finds it...strangely attractive. But perhaps it could be just her wolf who feels like that. "Let me go, Commander," she said, trying to sound stern but Reagan let out a chuckle. "If I let you go, you'd fall. The last thing I'd want to happen is to hurt the Lady of the Roseinhart family," he said, still grinning. "And only those who work for me call me Commander. Call me Reagan, Adriana," he said and then straightened. She immediately stepped back away from him and fidgeted her hands. She's just wearing her underdress as she was about to sleep earlier. And she could clearly see how Reagan's eyes traveled from her face to her whole body. "What are you doing here, Reagan?" she said, hesitating a bit to call his name. Reagan seemed pleased about it and angled his head. "I did tell you earlier I'm visiting." "I was expecting you'd come through the door and not the window," she said sternly. "Ah, but where would be the fun in that? Coming in through the door sounds boring, don't you think?" He stepped forward. "Climbing through the window is challenging," he said and made another step forward, making her take a step back. "And since it's challenging, the reward is worth it. I could fall to my death or just a serious injury or I could successfully get to my destination. Like you, it's unpredictable." Her eyes narrowed at him. "What are you talking about?" His eyes roamed from his face to her body once again. "Tell me, Adriana. You were expecting me, weren't you?" She scoffed. "Don't think too highly of yourself, Reagan. I simply couldn't sleep." "Because you're anticipating me." "Because what happened tonight was too overwhelming," she said, glaring at him. "And why are you here at this time of the night? This is not appropriate!" Reagan played his tongue inside his mouth and chuckled. "Have you forgotten we've done an inappropriate thing on the boat?" "That was a matter of life and death. And besides, I remember you said you were not affected by it so why the heck are you calling it inappropriate?" "I also remember promising to teach you how to make a man have a real hard-on--" "I do not remember accepting the promise." "Promises are not meant to be accepted. They're meant to be fulfilled." "Is that why you're here? To fulfill that promise?" "Would you be a willing student?" His voice carried so much seduction that even her human side couldn't hide the excitement. She can't be with this man alone in this dark room. It's dangerous. He's dangerous. The way her wolf jumps around whenever he's near is alarming. "Get the f**k out," she hissed but Reagan only let out a sensual chuckle. One that skittered along her bones. "Despite all that hatred in your voice, you know I can sense your wolf, right?" He took another step forward. She was about to step back again when his hand caught his waist. "I can sense her getting excited," he said he caressed her cheek with the back of his hand. She gasped at the contact and surprisingly, Reagan made the same sound. There it was again, the electric sensation she felt the first time on the boat. She doesn't know what that was. "You're wrong," she answered. "Am I?" His arm tightened around her and then he pulled her closer. They are so close now she could barely breathe properly. "Why don't we make this easier for the both of us, hmm?" "I don't know what you're talking about. I need you to get out." She grabbed his clothes but Reagan's hand held hers. "If you touch me now, it's going to be my undoing. Tell me you feel it too, Adriana. Tell me you feel that connection. Because I feel it so strongly and it's making me crazy," he said, whispering sensually. Like a temptation in the dark--sweet, beautiful, and seductive. "Tell me you feel that electrifying feeling," he said, his face, leaning closer. She could feel it. Even now. And like him, it's also making her crazy not only because she has no idea what it was but also because she felt like the only way to satisfy it was to be as close proximity with this man as possible. "I--Reagan--" "Don't bother denying it, love. I know you feel it too. I just want you to say it." "I..." She swallowed hard. "Yes, I feel it. The electrifying feeling--" She wasn't able to finish what she was about to say when suddenly, she felt herself falling to the bed. She groaned and looked at him on top of her. "I...you can't do...do this..." A smirk formed on his lips. "Would you like me to stop?" She wanted to say yes but her mouth couldn't move. Because deep down, she was curious. She was curious how his hands would feel on her bare skin. How his lips would feel on hers. How he-- She shook away the thought. "I can sense your wolf's needs. And not just your wolf side, Adriana. I can sense you. The connection is that strong." His fingers traced the length of her arms. "Now, do you still want to stop?" She couldn't bring herself to make him stop because she's liking it. "How should I treat you?" Reagan held her hands and pinned them over her head. With the moonlight coming through the window, he looked into her eyes filled with an indescribable ambiguity, "Or, how do you want me to treat you?" "We've done this before," he said. "We can do it again." He leaned closer and closer until they were a hair's breadth away. Before she could say something, he kissed her lips, and her eyes widened in shock. How could this man really just kiss her like that? He didn't seem to be an expert either, as his movements were somewhat inexperienced. So, after a few kisses, he gently bit her lips before pulling away and said with a slightly furrowed brow, "Just as soft as I imagined." She swallowed hard. He buried his head in the crook of her neck and whispered, "You smell nice. What scent is this? It's much better than what you used to wear on the boat." "Reagan," Adriana placed both of her hands between Reagan and herself. "I don't want to try it again. That was not something we both did not like to happen--" "I beg to disagree." "--and I think it shouldn't happen again. We can't...we can't engage in something like this when we're not married." He went silent for a while and then he nodded. "I think what our ancestors passed down is great. Women should respect themselves, not engage in private encounters with men before marriage, and men should also maintain their integrity and follow the style of a gentleman..." In other words, he should act like a gentleman and not do such vulgar things! "But first, tell me what scent you used tonight." Reagan propped himself up slightly with his hand, staring intently at Adriana, "Did you put thought into this for me, using a scent that I would like?" "You... are overthinking it," Adriana shrank her neck, "I didn't use any scent." "Reagan, we've only just met, and I'm not quite used to this... that is, you being so close to me." Adriana cautiously spoke with Reagan, "You are the young and heroic commander of the Aerilon pack, loved by the people. I am just a weak, little woman. You shouldn't want to... force me. It doesn't suit your status, right?" Unexpectedly, Reagan answered without hesitation, "Again, I beg to disagree. This is not about my status, Adriana. I am pursuing you and you'll become my wife." Adriana's eyes widened in surprise, "What?" "Sooner or later you'll become my wife." Adriana wanted to cry but had no tears. Was he crazy? Why would he choose her? What was wrong with her that she was targeted by this iron-fisted villain? "Please tell me you are just joking." "A joke?" A smile broke free from his lips. "I don't do jokes, Adriana. I am pretty hell-bent whenever I set my eyes on something." "This is insanity. Are you out of your mind? Why the hell would you choose me who barely has anything as of the moment?" "Because you're the only person who dared to talk to me like that and called me insane. I find you...intriguing. Also, I am not letting go of this connection I feel between us. It's interesting." "I think that connection was just our wolves getting horny for each other." Another smile broke from his lips. "So you acknowledge it now. That you're horny for me." Her hand flew to her mouth. "I mean our wolves. Not me and you." "That's the same." "It's not!" Reagan sat on the bed and looked at her. Before she could say something, he reached to touch her chin and said, "One day you'll be mine. Regardless if it's our wolves or not, I will prove to you that we are undoubtedly attracted to each other."
