Chapter Forty-Four
Confrontation
Like Agent Cook before him, and his boss and client soon afterwards, Myers was awakened in a hotel room by a ringtone. Flicking a glance at the clock, he answered full of foreboding.
“What?”
“Ms Downing has left headquarters. She’s gone up to the canyon by herself.”
“When?”
“She just arrived there. She’s gone inside. They welcomed her in, friendly as you please.”
“Nobody saw her leave?”
“She didn’t say anything. She just slipped out.”
Myers didn’t waste time cursing the idiots.
“Play me what the drone picked up when they let her in.”
He listened to an appeasing greeting and let out an uneasy exhalation.
“Maybe things are going to work out.”
