Chapter Three Tuesday Night Boy The door into the club thumped to the beat of the same dance music as the weekend, but an impending quiet complemented the sound. The doorman seemed surprised when Paul entered. “Collar, please,” Paul said. The man set one on the counter and picked up Paul’s twenty. Paul buckled the collar snug around his neck. After parking in his usual spot far from the building, he’d grown nervous crossing the nearly empty lot. Only the side lot where the bouncers and entertainers parked contained cars. The thumping door seemed to reveal a foreboding quiet that further unnerved him, but he didn’t relish the idea of standing there chatting up the bored doorman once he had his collar on, so he walked straight in.
