CHAPTER TWO: A FAMILIAR SMILE

763 Words
*Alyssa* The golden rays of the morning sun spilled I stepped stepped out of the family mansion, the cool breeze lifting strands of hair from my low ponytail as I patted it gently to stay in place. I looked down the driveway where the truck from earlier was parked. Beep Beep. I searched through my handbag for my phone, pulling it out by I saw a message. Ethan: are you leaving already😊 A small smile tugged at the side of my lips before I could stop it. I texted back Already did. Beep Beep. Another message Ethan:look to your left. My brows knitted together in confusion I turned. Parked beneath an old jacaranda tree was a dark blue sedan. Lazily leaning against it was Ethan, he was impossible to ignore even from a distance. Six feet tall, carrying himself with an effortless kind of confidence that didn’t demand attention yet somehow always received it . He was what someone would call pretty with muscles and a body build not too much nor too little . Our eyes met. He smiled. He smiled I squealed excitedly in my head while keeping a straight and official face. I shook my head with a quiet laugh before walking towards him. “You planned this?” I asked with a smirk He shrugged “ I happened to be driving by” “ You don’t even live on this side of the city” “I know” “So you deliberately came here” “ maybe “ I laughed , this time unable to hide it He opened the passenger for me with a small gesture that seemed so natural “Ladies first” he said smiling “Thank you” “My pleasure” as he walks to the other side of the car The engine comes to life as they drove off. Click. Ethan’s vehicle plate number “Boss I got it”.he said as into his phone “Good, now leave so you don’t get seen” *Ethan* The dashboard clock flickered. 8:11 . 8:12. I stared at it. You’ve officially lost your mind I said in my head with a quiet chuckle. I arrived twenty minutes earlier I could’ve just left for the office directly. I decided to stop here adding half an hour to my journey. It made no sense, maybe not on paper but in my head it did. I looked at the mansion gate I had visited this mansion a couple of times for business deals with the Hayes, so I was quite familiar with how things worked over here. These meetings had earned me some trust with the Hayes, I was sometimes invited over by Mrs Hayes for dinner, coffee, lunch , and on such days I got to converse with Alyssa Hayes. She asked impossible questions. “If money was to disappear tomorrow what would you do” “Why do you think people say silence is a weapon” And somehow i always managed to give her a good enough answer To make a good impression? My phone buzzed I looked at it, a calendar reminder . 9:00 am - meeting with investors I sighed “I’ll still make it” Another glance at the mansion Yet she was still nowhere to be found. At last
The front doors opened. There she was Oh she looked so beautiful I quickly looked away, I didn’t want it obvious that I was no staring at her incase she eventually looks my direction. I unlocked my phone Her reply came Lyssa : already did Without hesitation I replied Look to your left I looked just in time to see her expression change from configured to something else Happy? A smile appeared on her lips It looked very natural And pretty too I thought As she walked towards him he repeated the same thing he has been telling himself for weeks “Don’t rush this” I genuinely enjoyed her company, but I also valued our friendship and wouldn’t want to risk our friendship too When she finally stopped in front of me , trying but failing to hide her amusement, I instantly knew my extra drive across the city is worth it. “You planned this?” She asked I slipped my hands into my pocket to avoid my hands from betraying me. “Just happened to be driving by” I almost laughed at his terrible excuse I quickly made a mental note Make good excuses before time. Seeing her roll her eyes finally made the lie worthwhile.
