The room beneath the old headquarters had remained unchanged for decades.
No windows.
No outside connection.
Only a long black table surrounded by people who carried the symbol of the Silver Emblem.
The organisation had survived through generations by one rule:
Never let the past return.
But tonight, that rule was being questioned.
A file was placed on the table.
The name written on it made everyone silent.
Elena.
"She has awakened the emblem's connection," one of the members said.
An older man sitting at the end of the table looked at the file without touching it.
"Not awakened."
The room became quiet.
"Recognized."
Another member leaned forward.
"That should be impossible. The emblem has not responded to anyone in years."
"Yet it did."
The screen behind them displayed information about Elena's recent movements.
Her discoveries.
Her questions.
Her connection to people she should never have met.
"The girl is getting closer to the truth," someone said.
A woman sitting near the table crossed her arms.
"Then we stop her."
"No."
Everyone looked toward the speaker.
The man continued.
"Stopping her would only repeat the mistake we made years ago."
Silence filled the room.
Everyone knew what he meant.
The Adrian family.
"The Adrian family already paid the price for protecting the secret," the woman said.
"And yet they are still involved."
A new image appeared on the screen.
Adrian.
"He chose to stand beside her."
One member shook his head.
"Just like his ancestors."
The older man looked at the emblem symbol carved into the table.
"The cycle has started again."
A pause.
"But this time, the Observer is not the only one watching."
---
Adrian's estate had never felt like home to Elena.
It felt like a place holding thousands of untold stories.
But today was different.
Because for the first time, Adrian allowed her to see beyond the walls.
They walked through the old family library.
"You brought me here willingly," Elena said.
Adrian glanced at her.
"Is that surprising?"
"A little."
"Why?"
"Because every time I ask about your family, you change the subject."
Adrian smiled slightly.
"You noticed that?"
"I told you. I notice things."
He stopped walking.
For a moment, Elena thought he would avoid the question again.
Instead, he opened an old cabinet.
Inside were documents, old letters, and a symbol carved into the wood.
The Silver Emblem.
"My family was never just a family," Adrian said.
Elena looked at him.
"What does that mean?"
"We were guardians."
"Guardians of what?"
Adrian looked at the emblem.
"Of something people would destroy if they understood its value."
Elena became quiet.
"And now?"
"Now I'm not sure whether we're protecting the truth..."
He looked at her.
"...or protecting a lie."
For the first time, Elena saw uncertainty in Adrian.
Not the confident person who always seemed to have answers.
Just someone carrying a burden.
"You could have hidden this from me," Elena said softly.
"I could have."
"But you didn't."
Adrian looked away.
"Because you deserve to know what you're involved in."
Elena studied him.
"Why do you care so much?"
The question surprised him.
After a moment, he answered honestly.
"Because everyone who gets close to this secret loses something."
A pause.
"And I don't want that to happen to you."
Elena didn't reply immediately.
For once, Adrian wasn't hiding behind his family's name or the mystery.
He was just Adrian.
Someone afraid of losing another person.
---
Far away, inside the Silver Emblem headquarters, a final decision was made.
"Observe them."
"And if they find the truth?"
The older man closed the file.
"Then we find out whether Elena is the person who will save the legacy..."
A pause.
"Or the person who will end it."
The screen went dark.
But one name remained visible.
ETHAN.
