Chapter 3 As we walked through the forest, Ali tapped my back. She smiled warmly and carried some of my belongings. “You will be fine. It’s not like the world will end. Now that you will have a child, you finally have a reason to keep going in life, right?” Ali is right. Still, I can’t help but feel bad about myself. All my life, she was the only person that made me realize a lot of things. “You will be well even without him, you are a fighter, remember?” I know Ali is just saying those things to boost my confidence, but I know those are only empty words, and she meant nothing at all. — “So who’s the father of your child?” people often ask me this question, and like usual, I just smile and let Ali do the talking. “Apparently, her husband died in a car accident.” Ali smiled and tapped my back. “Please stop bringing it up. She’s pretty sensitive about it, please?” “It’s okay.” I always respond with a warm smile, even if it hurts me a lot. One time, as I stirred some potion in a huge pot, I suddenly felt my stomach hurt. I fell on the floor and started screaming. “Help!” I sobbed “Please someone help me!” I tightened my grip on my stomach and closed my eyes. Anytime soon, I feel like giving birth. It’s a pain that no one is around to accompany me since Ali needs to work. As I feel my heart pound, my vision gets blurry, and slowly, I lose consciousness. The next thing I noticed was that when I woke up, I was surrounded by white lights. I tried to get up, but it seemed that something was weighing me down. At that moment, I thought I was already dead, and I was already in heaven. However, I am pretty sure that a warlock like me won’t be sent to heaven. “Don’t move..” when I looked back, I saw Ali, smiling. I furrowed my brows and scratched my eyes. “Do you want to see your son?” “Son? Did I..” I sighed “Did I give birth? Really? How is that possible?! I am literally unconscious?!” Ali grinned and shook her head “Did you just forget that his father is a werewolf? And also an alpha? I know it sounds funny and weird at the same time, but perhaps, this guy is ready to conquer the world, making him eager to get out on his own. Wait a second, I'll take him.” Ali disappeared, and I was left baffled. When Ali returned, I was taken aback when I saw her with a baby in her arms. I can’t help but smile and feel excited. It seemed that my life started to have a new meaning. “What do you want to name him?” I wiped the tears flowing down my cheeks and grinned. “Santi.. I want to name him Santi.” Since we are in a new place, I thought things would be easier for us. However, when my son started to enter school, things became worse. “Hey, why is your uniform so dirty? What happened?!” I asked my son as soon as he arrived at our house. “Did you trip or something?” I can see him wiping his tears before opening his mouth. “Mom, people keep on telling me that I have no dad. Is it true?” Seeing his tears fall breaks my heart, making me hug him tightly. “My classmates make fun of me since i never bring my father to school.” “Of course, you have! How are you born in this world if you don’t have a father?” I laughed and kissed his forehead. “Do you want me to go to your school?” “No, I don’t want you to deal with people like them.” My son sobbed. “I hate them but I don’t want to make your headache too. They are the worst.” “Honey, is this the first time that they did this?” I didn’t hear any response from my son, making me a bit worried. “Honey, I am asking you a question…” For another time, my son didn’t respond. “I don’t want to get mad.” “No mama, this isn’t the first time..” he whispered. ”Last time, they told me I look like a wolf, but they doubt that I am one since I don’t have a father, and…and who marries a warlock?” “Do you want to transfer schools?” — “I told you, befriending the parents of kids in elementary is not a nice move..” Ali told me while she is cleaning her shoes. “Especially knowing how people view warlocks. Now, you are seeing the consequence of it.” “I just want to live like a normal person, but it seems impossible because I am a warlock. I thought people would be nicer here, but I was wrong.” I sighed and massaged my temples. “Do you think it would be nice if I moved him to a new school?” “At this rate, yes.” Ali agreed. “For now, let’s prepare for the festival in our place. There will be stalls, fireworks, and street dancing!” “Oh, our yearly tradition. That would be okay. I am pretty sure my son will enjoy it and for a while, he could forget the problem he is experiencing.” I nodded and stared at my son who was currently sleeping. “I feel bad, he must have been having a difficult time and he doesn’t want me to worry.” “He is a great and nice kid. He will be well.” “I know, I am just worried by the time I die. Who will protect him from evil people?” “Why are you thinking things like that? Warlocks don’t die easily unless you fight with werewolves or other creatures.” Ali reassured. “We will live for a long time, and we will see him grow up, so don’t worry, okay?” “I hope so..” I exhaled. “My life is a mess. I hope the gods above become nice to me even for once. I want him to have a comfortable life.”
