Chapter 1 “Why are you here?” I looked down and sighed. He grabbed my wrist and leaned closer, making me gasp. I can feel his breath on my neck, and I would be lying if I said that it didn’t wake something inside me. “You will be marrying your mate soon, right?” “Are you not going to do something?” I looked at his blue eyes, and it was full of anger and sadness. “Are you not going to do something to stop it?” It has been 3 years since we broke up, and even though how much I tell myself that I am done with him, he still appears inside my mind, especially at night. Maybe if he wasn’t a werewolf, everything would be okay. We could still be together, reaching for our dreams. “You must marry your mate or else it will affect you and your pack, right?” I pushed him away and stared at the window. “I never wanted to be the reason why people suffer, so please stop it.” “Why are you like this..” he whispered and pinned me against the wall. I am about to tear up at that moment. It’s been a while since I felt his touch and smell his fragrance. “Have you ever loved me the way I did?” If he can only read my mind, I am screaming yes at the top of my lungs. “No, I didn’t. I am sorry…” I bowed. I can see his eyes soften, and his grip on my shoulders loosen. After all, it is better this way. “Please, stop seeing me. Respect your lover..” “But..” he paused. “But I still love you…” I want to kiss his soft lips and tell him that I feel the same thing, but I am completely aware that the outcome might be something that will haunt me for years. I smiled and cupped his face. “I only loved you because of your efforts and gifts.” I smiled. “I am really sorry, but you seem to not know me after all.” He touched my palm and pressed it for three times. I gulped and closed my eyes. “You better leave, someone else might see you here.” I was taken aback when he kneeled in front of me and hugged my hips. A deafening silence followed, which made me caress his black hair. He never changed at all. Despite being the Alpha of their pack, he still has a soft side that never leaves, something that he only uncovers when we are out of everyone’s sight. I wonder if he does the same thing to Emily. “Thank you for everything…” he whispered. “Come on, Xander. You are better than this. You are the noble alpha of your pack, and you never bow down or kneel just to someone else, especially to a warlock like me.” I laughed. “No one likes a warlock like me, after all. Do your job. Protect your pack, and–” I was taken aback when he suddenly stood up and kissed me on the lips. It was like the first time that we kissed, which made me close my eyes. I know he might not come back anymore, given how he was about to marry someone tomorrow. He pulled away and stared at my face. Out of the blue, I can feel tears stream down my face. I laughed and wiped all of them. “I still need to wake up early for tomorrow. You should head home.” I whispered. “Please, don’t come back anymore.” He nodded and showed an upturned smile. He turned his back to me and began walking towards my door. I crossed my arms and stared at him as he walked away. I dreamt of this moment a couple of times, and he never looked back. Experiencing it in real time was as painful as I have always dreamt of, but since I have thought of it for a while, I think I can handle it now better. “I am going to start again, and everything will be good. At least, we now have a closure.” I whispered to myself. “I hope she treats him well, and he learns to love Emily for the sake of their pack.” “Maybe things would not turn out like this if I was never born into a warlock family..Maybe if I came from a werewolf family, maybe I could stand a chance to be with him forever.” I whispered to myself. “Well, this is my reality. I have no choice but to accept all of this.” When he finally left my house, I walked towards the door and locked it. I was about to head towards my bedroom, but I noticed that the door on my balcony was still open since the wind just entered. I sprinted towards the balcony, and I was about to close the sliding door, but a guy suddenly popped out of nowhere. Our eyes met, and I could see his bloodshot eyes, filled with tears. He pushed the sliding door and hugged me tightly. The wind entered aggressively like the first time he entered my life. I can’t utter a thing, and nor is he. “Please, let me stay at your place for the last time,” he whispered. “So I could have something to cherish forever.” I slowly touched his back and giggled. He has no idea how much I have always wanted him, and even if this doesn’t align with my morals, I want to be with him, even for the last time. He inserted some strands of my hair behind my ears and kissed my lips. Unlike earlier, it was aggressive, and I could sense his longing for my presence. He carefully lay me on the bed, while removing each piece of my cloth. His kisses slowly went down towards my neck, where he started biting it. I groaned a little, which made him pull away. “Please let me leave some marks, so I could say that you were once mine.” I have no idea why those words left a sting inside my heart.
