Roselyn walked down the hallway when she saw Betty coming up the stairs with a tray. She had just checked Rachael's room, and found out that Rachel wasn't home yet.
She waited for Betty to come up the stairs completely.
“Good morning, Betty.”
“Fine morning to you, my Rose. Hope you had a good night's rest?”
“Yes, I did, thank you. Is that for my Father? She asked, gesturing towards the tray on Betty's hand.
“Yes, it is.”
Alright, let me help you with that. I'm going to see him anyways”
“Oh dear… alright.” Betty said as she handed over the tray to her. “Is Rachael back?”
“No she's not. She didn't come back last night. I guess she's still very angry about last night. Thank you, Betty. Let me give this to father.”
“Off you go girl… Let me start on breakfast” she turned and went down the stairs.
Roselyn walked to the door of her father's study and knocked gently. She waited a moment until she heard a gruff “come in” before opening the door.
He was just getting off the phone when she walked in. Worry was etched on his face.
“Is your sister back?”
“No, she’s not,” she replied, dropping the tray on his desk. “Here’s your coffee,” she added softly.
“She needs to be here right now” he got up to pace.
“What’s wrong, Dad?”
“Larry… that’s Mr. Nathan’s assistant… just called telling me my daughter is to meet with Nathan by 9:00 am this morning. I tried telling him it’s too soon and he just said that’s what the boss wants. Lord, I hate this. Let me try calling her again” He said picking up his phone.
He dialed Rachael’s number, all he heard was her recorded voice. He sighed and dropped the phone. Roselyn sat watching him.
“Oh Rachael…” Mr. Spencer said worriedly. “Nathan won't take it lightly if she doesn't show up”
“Then they can always reschedule…”
“No, you don't understand… She can't miss it” He said nervously.
Roselyn looked at her father. For a little moment there, she saw fear on his face before it passed.
“Just exactly who is this man?” She asked
“He's dangerous, Rose. That's all I can say. It sickens me that I will be giving my child to him. A real moment of weakness and now I can't go back on my decision”
A moment passed with silence.
“I'll go.” Roselyn whispered.
Mr. Spencer glanced at her. “What?”
“I'll go and meet with Mr Nathan since Rachael is not back yet.”
“You're not the one marrying him, Rose”
“He doesn't have to know, right? Or has he seen either of us?” She asked.
“No, but this could cause a lot of problem later. No musk, this is a bad idea”
“Dad…” She leaned forward. “If Rachael doesn't shows up, things might get worse. And knowing Rachael, Dad…you know Rachael, she won't show up. At least not anytime soon. So, I'll go and then explain everything to him. This could buy time until she's back”.
“Rose…”
“It's alright, let me go change.” She stood up. “Where am I to meet him?”
“Hodge will take you there” He replied still looking skeptical about it.
“Alright.” When she got to the door, she turned to him.
“Dad… I feel so bad for Rachael and the fact that she has to do this. If I wasn't engaged already, I'll do it myself. And I'm so sorry you had to make this decision. I can't imagine how it was for you at that moment.”
She turned and left the room.
Mr Spencer bowed his head and cried.
*****************
Roselyn checked her wrist watch. She had been here for over an hour and yet Mr Nathan hadn't showed up. Though she came a little early…Okay maybe not a little early. She came a lot earlier because she needed to calm her nerves.
And she was thankful she did so. Now she has been to expensive places before but when Hodge dropped her in front of the building, her jaw almost dropped. The building was very huge and the inside was exquisite. She knew she gaped when she walked to the floor receptionist asking for Mr Nathan.
They had directed her to this place. She sighed and checked her phone to see if Collin has returned her calls or texts. She needed to let him know what has been happening but strangely he wasn't picking or replying his chats.
She'd go check on him after she's done meeting with Mr. Nathan. She was about to text Collin that she'd be at his place later in the day when a shadow fell over her.
She looked up to see a very tall and handsome man with broad shoulders. She felt a tingling sensation down her spine and her heart beat accelerated.
The man took the seat opposite her and nodded to someone. That was when she noticed the other man, who simply bowed and excused them.
This must be Mr. Nathan. She had expected him to look a little older. After all he was just very few years younger than her father. She hadn't expected him to look this handsome. She could spot some grey on his hair though but it made him look more magnificent.
He really had wide shoulders. His brown hair was combed back, though a strand fell over his face. His lips were thin and set right now in a straight line. His jaws were sharp and his nose were slightly crooked as if he had been in a fight but it didn't deter his fine face.
It was his eyes.
When he stood over her, she thought it was all black but now she could see some grey at the edges of his pupil.
He was looking at her so intensely she felt he could read her mind. She shrank back on her seat, her heart beat picking up.
He raised his brow at the little movement she made. “Are you done staring?” He asked dryly.
She felt her face heat up. “um… I wa… Good…”
He sighed.
“You're very young” He frowned. “How old are you?”
“Tw…” she cleared her throat. “Twenty four”
“What's your name?” He asked
“My name is Roselyn… Roselyn Spencer”
He stood up.
“Okay, Roselyn Spence who's twenty four years old, the plan has been adjusted.”
She looked up at him with surprise. “Pl…plan?”
“Get up, quick!” He said so sharply that she jumped up from her seat. “We have two places to go to immediately.”
He started walking and she had no choice but to follow him. His strides were so long that she almost ran to keep up.
They got outside and she saw that a car was already waiting with its door open. He entered inside and the driver shut the door. She opened her mouth, confused.
The driver gestured to her to follow him, then he opened the other rear door for her and she entered. Within seconds, they drove off.
She looked sideways at him. He was on his phone.
“Please sir…” She started in a small voice. She cleared her throat. “Where are we going?”
No response.
“Please, where are we going?” She asked more loudly.
“I heard you the first time.” He looked at her.
“We are going to get you a wedding dress.”
“What?” She laughed shakily. There's no need to get a wedding dress already. That can be done later. There's someth…”
He looked at her coolly. “Why would we do that later?” He asked.
“We are getting married now”
