Excerpt from Manifest the Magic Steigan woke bathed in sweat. He kicked the quilts off him as though his nightmare had set them aflame in the explosive shower of hot embers chasing him to the waking world. He tried to ease his breathing, telling himself he wasn’t in a room on fire with gray monsters surrounding him. Pale morning light pressed against the edges of the cloth covering the windows giving him just enough light to see his surroundings. He could barely make out the shape of the large bureau with two long candles sitting atop like horns.
