5.40 p.m., Sebastian Balogun Manor.
Sir Reginald Chukwu III’s P.O.V.
The opulent lobby of the Sebastian Balogun Manor was abuzz with activity as Oliver and I met with our esteemed business rival, Sir Alexander Balogun. The anticipation in the air, a delicate dance of power and deception about to unfold.
Sir Alexander entered the cosy lobby with an air of confidence, his piercing gaze sweeping over Oliver and me.
"My dear friend, and my senior colleague," he began, a subtle smile playing on his lips. "I'm quite intrigued by this little masquerade you've concocted. How I wish my Dad — your classmate and co-alumnus — were here to welcome you, Sir Reginald the Third… He had travelled out of the Kingdom before you informed me of your visit."
"We're glad you could host us at such short notice, Sir Alexander. As you know, we're embarking on a rather... ambitious plan," my son said in a disguised friendly tone.
Sir Alexander laughed quietly, his eyes gleaming with amusement. "Oh, I'm well aware, my boy. And I must say, I'm quite impressed with the level of detail you've put into this little charade of yours."
I cleared my throat, drawing the attention of the two younger men. "Well, then, shall we get down to business?"
Sir Alexander nodded, "Indeed. I was wondering if my younger friend was crazy, trying to make everyone feel that he was a simple, poor taxi driver… Now, I understand you're looking for a way to establish a more elaborate persona for Oliver's taxi driver alter ego. And you've enlisted my assistance in maintaining the illusion."
"Correct, Sir Alexander. We know you will create a credible backstory and financial resources to support my new identity. You will spend the money to create those investments in my name, but I will pay you back by proxy… I will choose how the funds will get to you without a Banking Process."
Sir Alexander's gaze fixed on Oliver, a glint of something akin to admiration in his eyes. "My, my, Oliver, you certainly are a fascinating young man. Juggling two such vastly different identities – it's quite the impressive feat… Come to think of it, you are a super-wealthy Engineer. Do you genuinely need people to think I was doing some charity to sponsor your charade?"
Oliver shifted in his seat, overawed. But he mustered courage and said, sweetly, "Thank you, Sir Alexander. This kind of thing will need someone else’s sponsorship: It boosts my sponsor’s image. Besides, the Kingdom’s people see us as friends, not minding the age difference. So, we can capitalise on their emotions… We are sure you will provide the necessary resources and connections to make this work. Walls do have ears, and we need this to be credible. What do you think, Senior Colleague?"
Sir Alexander leaned back in his chair, cracking his fingers thoughtfully. He signalled his butler to serve snacks and champagne. Then he said, "Of course, of course. But you must understand, my dear boy, that this is not a one-way street. Apart from the money, I have certain... (He paused a bit and made a gesture with his hands before completing his statement) expectations of my own."
My brow furrowed; I even heard a hint of concern in my voice. "And what might those be, Sir Alexander?"
The host chuckled, a predatory shimmer in his eyes. "Why? Nothing too onerous, I assure you. All I ask is that you keep me informed of your progress, and that you allow me to... shall we say, guide the narrative from time to time."
Oliver felt a chill run down his spine, but he remained composed. "Guide the narrative? What exactly do you mean by that, Dear Engineer and Knight?"
Sir Alexander's smile widened, a touch of mischief in his expression. "Why, my dear boy? I simply want to ensure that this little masquerade of yours benefits me as well. After all, to the watchers, I am providing you with the resources and connections you so desperately need. And it would be legally in your name, so I cannot claim anything later… Overnight, I have made this estimate." He threw a small spiral-bound Memo on the table.
Oliver carefully picked up the memo, while I ignored it. My mind was on the sensual game which Alexander was aiming at. As I saw Oliver’s eyes widen, I leaned forward, a hint of warning in my voice. "I respect you a lot, even when I am one year older than my friend and colleague, who is your dad. So, what else do you hope to gain from this arrangement, Sir Alexander?"
A uniformed security attendant came to whisper into Sir Alexander Balogun’s ears at this time, and he beamed with a smile… He bowed to Sir Reginald and respectfully announced: “Dad’s friend, and my twelve-year-younger colleague… We shall continue our small talk. Just that I have a very special ‘darling’ just stepping into our midst…”
The younger man's gaze shifted to Amelia Sinclair, who had just entered the lobby, her gorgeous presence commanding the attention of all present. Sir Alexander hugged Amelia affectionately and looked at my son and me before continuing his reply to my question:
"Why, the opportunity to get to know a certain enchanting young lady a bit better, of course."
We all watched as Amelia went to sit a bit far from where our discussion was held. I looked at Oliver as he seemed flustered, realising the true nature of Sir Alexander's involvement. The younger man blurted out his feelings with a harsh whisper, "You want to use me to get closer to Amelia?"
Sir Alexander sniggered, his eyes never leaving Amelia’s form. "My dear boy, it's a mutually beneficial arrangement. I help you maintain your charade, and in return, I get to indulge in a little... personal entertainment."
Sir Reginald's expression darkened, but Sir Alexander raised a hand to placate him. "Now, now, Sir Reginald the Third, let's not be hasty. I have no intention of interfering with your son's pursuit of the fair Amelia. In fact, I'll be more than happy to lend a helping hand, as long as I get to enjoy a bit of company myself."
I imagined that Oliver must have felt his stomach churn with a mix of anger and unease. I know my son. I was not surprised when he asked, "And what if I refuse your... proposition, Sir Alexander?"
Smiling mischievously, Casanova Alexander asked, “Which one of the two? The business memo or the pleasure?”
“I have no problem with your measly request for the sum of 250 million pounds sterling to kickstart a BMW Auto Assembly Plant in my name, with a backdated Corporate Affairs Commission Incorporation Certificate… But I have everything against your randy eyes on my future wife!”
The host's gaze snapped back to Oliver, a stern expression on his face. "Then, I'm afraid your little masquerade will come crashing down. You see, my dear boy, you need me. Without my resources and connections, your charade will be exposed, and you'll lose any chance of winning Amelia's heart."
Oliver glanced at me, and I remained silent, my expression unreadable. The weight of the situation bore down on me, the realisation that I had made a choice that could potentially jeopardise everything.
Amelia rose from the distance, approaching our round table with a dazzling smile on her beautiful blonde model face. "Gentlemen, may I ask if I'm interrupting anything important?"
Sir Alexander's demeanour shifted instantly, a charming smile replacing the stern expression. "My dear Amelia, not at all. In fact, we were just discussing how best to ensure your continued enjoyment of our dear Oliver's company."
Amelia's eyes sparkled with amusement as she glanced at Oliver, a hint of mischief in her gaze. "Oh, is that so? Well, I can't wait to hear what you've all come up with… How is the great doyen of Engineering doing? And… Is Dear Oliver enjoying the two Engineers’ jabs?" She greeted me cheerfully and moved back gracefully to where she was sitting.
Oliver must have felt his heart skip a beat as Amelia's eyes met his, a flutter of hope rising within him. He knew that he had to make a decision, one that would shape the course of his future and his relationship with the woman he had come to admire.
With a deep breath, Oliver turned to Sir Alexander, his expression resolute. "Very well, Sir Alexander. I will look into your terms. You will send your Stewardess with us as we leave in a few minutes, and she will remit the cash into her personal account tomorrow… But know this – I will not allow you to interfere with my pursuit of Amelia. She is off-limits."
Sir Alexander's smile widened, a gleam of triumph in his eyes. "Excellent, my ‘friend’. I wouldn't have it any other way. My stewardess closes in an hour, but she can go with you and leave from there… Now, let's get to work on crafting your new identity, shall we?"
As the three of us began to map out the details of Oliver's elaborate charade, I noticed that Amelia watched on, her curiosity piqued, and her gesture interpreted for me: the fact that her heart was racing with the thrill of the ever-unfolding drama, though she could not understand their discussion. She must like my son, too… The game had begun, and the stakes had never been higher.

8.50 p.m., Family Library, The Shamgar Ducal Mansions.
Sir Reginald Chukwu III’s P.O.V.
Oliver returned to find the study transformed — files spread across the mahogany desk, a whiteboard wheeled in from some forgotten corner of the mansion, and he watched as I paced before it with the restless energy of a general before battle.
"Sit," I commanded, not unkindly, gesturing toward the regal leather chair. "We have much to construct."
Oliver sat, eyeing the whiteboard, where I had already scrawled a single word at the top: “EMEKA.”
"You remembered the name, Dad?" Oliver asked.
"I remember everything, son. That is precisely why I have survived in business as long as I have." I tapped the board. "Now. Beatrice Fu-Cheng suspects that "Emeka, the taxi driver" is more than he appears. That was the middle name she thought you were hiding, along with the other junk she gathered as evidence against her Cambridge University one-night stand victim! We will not deny her suspicion. We will confirm it — but on our terms, with our story."
"I don't follow, Your Royal Highness."
"A man hiding a secret is vulnerable," I explained, beginning to pace again. "But a man who appears to be revealing a secret — on his own terms, in his own time — is in control. So, Emeka will remain a taxi driver. But Emeka will also, gradually, reveal himself to be a brilliant engineer — a DPhil graduate, which Beatrice Fu-Cheng knows no less — who chose humble work to 'find himself' after a privileged but complicated upbringing. This is not even a lie, Oliver. It is simply... an incomplete truth."
Oliver leaned forward, intrigued by himself. "And how does this help Amelia?"
"Amelia already loves the man beneath the uniform," I said, my voice softening slightly. "That much I have observed since you were in Cambridge. She does not need the fortune revealed to her gradually — she needs to trust that whatever is revealed, the man beneath it remains the same. Our task is not to deceive her further, son. It is to construct a bridge sturdy enough that when the full truth arrives, she does not feel she has been betrayed, but rather that she has been slowly, carefully trusted."
Oliver was quiet for a moment, turning my words over. "And Beatrice?"
