Chapter 3

Nat is a storyteller, no matter how depressed and sad you might be she always has that hype to uplift your mood in every way possible. "Yaya, so I met this guy at my party and damn he was cute with a nice body too I just wanted to eat him right there in that party but he seemed like a good guy and didn't want to rush things so he left his numbers and all and I don't know whether it's too early to call him now or what but whatever I'll send him a text message", she said taking out her phone and typing something.

I stood up went to the fridge took out some ice cream and got a fleece from her bedroom and went to sit with her on the couch. "Let's watch a movie, I need something to calm me down", I said switching the tv on. She took the remote went straight to Netflix and selected a movie, Murder mystery. We watched the movie in silence while eating the ice cream, I really needed this today.

I fell asleep and woke up to my phone ringing when I checked my caller ID, it was my Mom calling, I just ignored the call and stood up and found a note on the fridge written "out with Mark, love you xx", ahh she went out with her new boyfriend. I took my staff and left for home and texted her I'm on my way home and I found her note, she did not respond well I was expecting that. 

My parents were sitting at the lounge and when I entered they turned to look at me, what ate they looking at? I asked myself. "Baby Nathan's family wants to have a family dinner at their place and we thought we should let you know", Mom said staring at me, "where have you been it's pretty late?". "I went to see Nat, I needed some break from the tension in this house", I said still standing by the door.

"Mom and Dad, what were you thinking? Why did you arrange this marriage? What did you hope of gaining for doing this? You know this is going to screw up my life because now I'll have to have babies and obviously be a sit at home Mom because that's what's expected from me right? I don't even know this guy but you just thought he'd be a good fit to be my husband? How could you do this to me? They already paid everything right? You just finalised everything without letting me know?", I couldn't breath and I had tears flowing down.

I said that then went up the stairs to my room then banged the door, I can't lie I was still mad for what they did but I'm sure they had their own reasons. Maybe they thought I was a lesbian and was terrified to talk about it? But I'm not, I'm straight I was just not ready yet to give my virginity to no one. Why would my parents be so forward without talking to me? I let myself cry so hard for all the pain I was feeling inside. Have you ever been through something like this? Apparently Jonathan's family is one of the richest families and my family is rich too but why would they want something from them? I'm confused.

My Mom knocked on the door, "Baby please let me in", she said still knocking. I stood up to go open for her, she came in with worried expressions, why is she even worried? This woman, I said to myself walking towards my bed. "Maya I know this is hard for you and trust me it was hard for us too to decide on this but we really wanted to do something for you that we thought was good for you at that time", she said sitting on my bed.

I can't believe her, "so you are still justifying you guys action? Seriously is that what you came to do in my room? To tell me how good your so called "Nathan" is? Mom you don't even know him, you only just met his family and you are already thinking of getting us married? Does he know this? Does he know that he has to get married to me? Does he?", I asked in a demanding way.

"He knows baby and he was excited about it", she said staring at me. I was a bit shocked to hear her say that, maybe this isn't such a bad idea at all. "Ma why did you do it? Why did you agree to this?", I asked staring at her. "They've been good to us honey, we owed them this much so we couldn't refuse their proposal and if they think you're the right person for him then who are we to go against it? They chose you out of all these other families", she said. I let out a laugh while processing what she just said, I honestly had no energy left in me to say anything so I just nodded and laid on the bed.

My Mom came to lie next to me and we just laid in silence holding hands. I don't know when I fell asleep but I woke up to the knock on my door, it was Katie telling me dinner is ready. I woke up brushed my teeth and went downstairs, everyone was already there. I joined them in silence filled my plate and started eating. I have work tomorrow and I need to fix myself so I can wake up fresh tomorrow morning. Katie and Lucas were arguing about something they were watching and my parents were silent so I just ate my food in silence too.

After we were done, Katie helped me with the dishes. "Ya you've been quiet all this time, are you okay?", she asked putting down a plate. Katie is 17 years old and Lucas is older than her, he is 19 and I am 23 so she pretty understand when I'm quiet sometimes. "I'm okay Baby, I just had a long day today and I need some rest", I said still washing the dishes. I actually got enough rest for the day but I had to hide this from her, she can't find out about it from me my parents have to tell her.

"Maya you've been sleeping the whole time Mom was in your room so don't lie to me", she said with a demanding voice. "Kat I'm not in the mood for all of this okay? I just need some rest I had a long day what else do you want to hear from me? I am screwed okay my whole life is screwed just because out parents think I'm lesbian or they think I can't get myself a man!" I said shouting and tears were flowing down my eyes and I don't even know how I said all of that in just a glimpse. Katie was still staring at me with shocked eyes and my parents came rushing to the kitchen and I just put down the plates and stomped out of the kitchen.

I don't want to go against my parents, I respect them so much to go against them in any way and I have always obeyed them in every way possible but I think this time they crossed a line trying to "help me out". I got into my bed and went straight into bed. After a few moments Nat called, asking how I was. "Nat I feel like a dead woman walking, is there something like that though?" I said laughing a bit. I heard she let out a sigh after hearing me laugh, "I'm so worried about you Yaya, what you must be going through.. I know you are one of the respectful people I've ever met and I know you don't want to go against your parents, so have you decided what you want to do?", she asked with a calm voice. 

"Honestly Nate, I don't know what I want to do, but I think the only way to do this is to go through with it, I mean no one will get hurt right? I'll still be working on my own and he'll still be working on his own, we'll just be married that's all right?, I said trying to convince myself. " I don't know Ya, think this through okay? Think about it hard I'll see you tomorrow at work okay?" She said with a soothing voice. I immediately felt at ease after that call.

I took a shower then went to be bed. The next morning my alarm clock woke me up at 6am, I was feelingbetter than yesterday. I woke up went, switched on some music to sing along to then hopped into the shower. I didn't want this whole marriage thing to mess up my day so I had to distract myself as much as I could. When I went downstairs, only my Mom and Lucas were still there, my Dad had taken Kat to school. They were preparing to leave too. I greeted them then went on to make myself breakfast, bacon and eggs then sat down and ate. My Mom usually prepares breakfast for everyone but it seems like she is late today.

"Enjoy your day Nat I'm off", Lucas said taking his bag and his keys and left. "Baby Nathan's family wants to have the dinner later today and I hope you will be able to join us later today to go over because they are hoping to see you", Mom said packing her stuff. She then said her goodbyes and left. My parents are really unpredictable, when did we get here all of a sudden?
