Chapter 12

2631 Words
Unknown POV Kara angrily stumped out of the infirmary, steam emitting from her ears as she walked towards the pack house which was only a few blocks away from the infirmary. "Kara, where are you going?" Alpha James asked as he ran to catch up with her. Kara continued walking, without such a glance in James' direction. "You don't seriously think you can rescue him, do you?" He asked, "If it's the same pack I'm thinking we might be in more trouble than we thought." He finished as they slowly went out of site. "So she has gotten closer to the Alpha of the Blood Thirst pack. This makes my job so much easier." The stranger said as they vanished into the forest with a sinister smile plastered on their face. Kara's POV "Kara, wait up. Where are you going?" James asked as he tried to catch up with her. "You don't seriously think you can rescue him, do you?" he said as he stepped beside her. Kara felt as if she was being watched by something or rather someone that was hiding within the shadows. She stopped unexpectedly and extended her ear, listening keenly to find anything out of place. "Hey what's--" James tried asking, but Kara silenced him by placing her finger to her lip. James stood still as he mimicked Kara's action. The wind blew, causing the sounds to entwine with it. "I thought I heard something behind those trees." She answered as she pointed at the trees behind them. "But I lost trace of it when the wind blew." She finished. "Really I didn't hear anything outside of the norm. What did it sound like?" James asked. "Like someone was watching us," she replied. A gust of wind blew around her, replacing the fresh air with the strong scent of cinnamon. She glanced above her head to see a seven-foot-tall cinnamon tree looming over her. Great now this will prevent her from sniffing out whatever was hiding, she thought. "It's nothing, just forget it." She said as she continued on the path that led to the pack house. "Kara, are you sure we can trust that friend of yours?" James asked, referring to the conversation they had earlier. "For some reason, it felt as if he was lying." He finished. "Leon would never lie to me," she replied with a serious look on her face, "not when it comes to Raynor." She entered the packing house, and she spotted Luke, who was in an intense conversation with Cameron, Alexis, who was too busy toying with her phone rather than engaging in the conversation, and Jason, who was nowhere to be found, strange, Kara thought. But the thought immediately vanished from her mind as soon as Alexis called on her. "Hey," she said as she approached them. Both Luke and Cameron stopped talking as soon as Kara and James approached them. "Cameron filled us in on what happened. Is he really a member of your old pack?" She asked with a bewildered look. Kara nodded, which seemed to confirm the doubt in their minds. "He and another soul survived along with Kara, they said they hid in the woods when the attack was happening," James told them. "Did they recognise who attacked their pack? Or any clue whatsoever?" Luke asked eagerly. "No, they didn't," James replied. "So what happened to the other one?" Alexis asked. "He said he was captured by the pack in the north," James replied. "What? You don't mean that pack?" Cameron asked. James nodded and Luke furred his brow. "You're awfully quieter than usual, what are you thinking?" Alexis asked as he glanced in the direction where Kara stood. Kara, who was deep in thought, raised her head to look at him, she took a deep breath, then she replied. "I'm going to rescue him," she replied. "Now that's gonna be a problem," Luke replied. "The pack in the north?" With a puzzled look, Alexis asked, "what's so dangerous about the pack in the north ?". "Have you been living under a rock for the past ten years?" Cameron asked Alexis in a rather annoyed tone. "Well, that's rude. For your information, I have been too busy with my life to worry about other packs, and I'm no Alpha who needs to keep a tap of every single pack in our region," Alexis replied. Cameron was shocked at her sassy remark but quickly composed himself, as not to show weakness. "The Night Walkers are known to be one of the strongest packs to ever exist, they are ruthless and merciless to their enemies, and they tend to kill for no reason," James replied, "They've dominated the entire northern region by taking over all the smaller packs within its territory. and they s*******r any pack that refuses to side with them. Now they have a total of five thousand members," James finished. "If our pack happens to cross them in any way, we won't just have the rogues to worry about," James told them. "If your friend is a rogue there are only two fates he has come to meet. Once they got him locked, or they killed him." Cameron replied with a disapproving look on his face. "Are you even sure we can trust him? What if he's making this up so we overlook him as a threat?" "I'm not asking any of you to risk your life for the sake of my pack," she replied, staring at Cameron with a death glare. "Kara trusts that he's telling the truth and I trust her," James replied with a 'you know what will happen if you upset her so stop this now' look towards Cameron as he continued. "Besides, I think we can smooth a talk over with their Alpha and--" Kara cut James mid-sentence as he spoke. "I don't need you to protect me," she said to James as she turned to leave, "It's not like you're my mate," she whispered under her breath as she headed upstairs. a herd of emotions crossed Kara's mind within that split second, she replied without thinking. ***** Twenty minutes later, Kara opened the door to the infirmary where Leon was staying. Two buff and very built men stood before the door. Kara pushed past them and entered the room. Leon sat on the bed, he seemed to be deep in thought. Kara tapped on the door to get his attention, he leaned his head towards the door and his eyes lit up when he saw her. Kara smiled at him, his hair grew a lot longer than she remembered, it fell messily along his face and his brown eyes were sparky with wonder, the shy and scared boy she grew up with was transformed into someone she never thought she would ever see. A single tear escaped her eye and she swiftly wiped it away as she threw the bag she had onto Leon's lap. "Put those on and let's go," She told him, as she stepped back into the hallway and closed the door. A few minutes later, Leon emerged through the door wearing a pair of black jeans, a dark red t-shirt, a black jacket and a couple of rider boots. "You look good," Kara told him as she bounded off the wall she was leaning on and headed towards the exit. "Yea, thanks for this," Leon replied, a blush slowly creeping up on his face. He lowered his head to hide his embarrassment and followed Kara outside. He is still the same boy as I remembered, shy and easily embarrassed, Kara thought to herself. Once outside, Kara headed straight towards the black motorcycle parked in front of the infirmary. She grabbed a spear helmet and gave it to Leon, he accepted it without question and placed it over his head. Kara placed her's on her head and went on the motorcycle, Leon followed her in sync and as soon as they were settled she started the engine and sped off through the gates, leaving a trail of dust behind her. Thirty-minutes later Kara halted as she crossed a crossroad, she searched the street for anything that could help her figure out where she was. "Where should we go from here?" she turned and asked Leon, who shook his head with a shrug. "We took the path in the woods to get where we need to go," Leon replied. "Great," Kara replied sarcastically. Now what should she do, she thought to herself. Three motorcycles identical to hers but with different colours pulled up beside them. The riders pulled up the glass of their helmets and turned towards them. "This is why you shouldn't rush when you plan, then before you know it you're on your way to the other side of the earth unaware of where you're going." Kara rolled her eyes in annoyance as she heard the familiar voice of James speak through the helmet. He was a bit muffled but clear enough for her to listen to him. "What are you guys doing here?" She asked, "I thought I told you I didn't want any of you to risk your lives for my pack and me." She told them. "Do you really think we'll let you go there by yourself," Alexis said, "you and your friend there," she added. She squinted her eyes a bit trying to get a better look at his face, but stopped after no avail. "We're a part of your pack, whether you like it or not," She told Kara. "Yea, and do you really think you could run off without me?" a voice said. "Jason?" Kara asked, Jason, removed his helmet from his head and flashed a toothy smile in Kara's direction. "The one and only," he replied. Kara smiled at him, "but how?" she asked. "I heard Mr Alpha over here discussing with everyone that they're going to help you with your rescue mission and I couldn't help but join in." He replied. "OK, but isn't it dangerous to be here? Your pack will be vulnerable if the rogues find out you're not there. What if they attack?" Kara asked James, her only reason for going back to the Blood Thrust pack was to prevent the rogues from attacking and now that their alpha has left, will they attack? She thought to herself. "It's ok Kara, I left Cameron in charge and Luke along with members of the Blue Moon pack is there to help in case of an attack," James replied. As much as she want to believe that everything will be fine an unsettling feeling in her stomach said otherwise. She stared at everyone who was willing to help her, even though they do not know or care for Raynor, the fact that they all left to help get him back is enough to cause Kara's heart to melt. "Ok so do any of you know how to get to the Night Walkers pack?" Kara asked. Everyone turned their heads towards James, he sighed as he spoke. "The Nightwalkers pack is north of here and since we are in the southern region we should go-" he was abruptly cut off as everyone replied simultaneously. "Straight," Alexis replied "Left," Jason said, "--right." James points to the road with a perplexed look on his face. "Right," they both replied in unison, they were like toddlers going on a road trip. Kara shook her head as she stared at them, her lips slowly curved as a smile peeled its way on her lips. She was grateful to have Alexis and Jason in her life, they were everything a girl like her could ask for, she doesn't deserve them, Kara thought to herself with a sad look. She quickly shook the feeling of despair as it tried to consume her. "Ok then what are we waiting for?" she asked, she pulled the helmet glass back over her face as she started the engine and drove off, the others followed her as they rode off. An hour later, they entered a lone street, the trees loomed over them as if it wanted to snatch them up for a snack. The narrow road unwinds before them as they slowed down. James' motioned for everyone to stop as he parked his ride and came off. "We'll walk the rest of the way." He told them. "What, Why?" Alexis asked, as she parked behind him, she pulled her helmet off and stared at him with an annoyed look. "Because by now the Night Walkers have already known someone has ventured into their territory, they're probably already on their way to hunt us down as we speak," James replied. "So to avoid running into them we'll be taking the route through the woods." He finished. "I did not dress for the woods," Alexis replied, pointing at her stiletto heels. How she rode with that? This is a question Kara has been trying to figure out since the day they met. "Don't worry you won the needing those anyways," James replied. He pushed the motorcycle through a path leading to the forest, and the others followed behind him without a word. He then hid the bike in a shallow sinkhole covered in gold and brown leaves from the trees above, proof that autumn is near its end. "Ok so you guys should find somewhere to change and transform into your wolfs, we'll start running soon after," James announced as he went behind a giant sequoia tree. The others scattered along with him. As Kara emerged to meet with everyone her wolf searched the area for James, her head whipped around to see a six-foot-tall black wolf standing behind her. "Where did he come from?" she asked herself, staring at the red-eyed wolf. The wolf stood there for what felt like forever admiring her white fur and blue eyes, she blinked once, then twice as she tried to figure out what he was thinking. The alpha wolf approached her, and rub his snout against her. Kara jumped back from the sudden contact but relaxed as the wolf persistently came closer to her. Her bewildered look did not faze James' wolf not once as his wolf continue to rub himself against her. She stepped away from him and lowered her head she saw the others watching. Kara turned to stare at the brown she-wolf that stood behind her, her tongue hanging from her head as she waited for a command. Jason's light grey-coloured wolf stepped forward head held high, without a glance at James motioned for Kara to tell them what to do, while Leon's ginger-haired wolf stood in the distance head titled, taking in the scene before him. "Let's go," the Alpha said, Kara was dumbfounded as she heard the alluring voice booming in her head. How is she able to hear him through his mind link? The only way that is possible is if she was a part of the pack and the only person that could do that is the alpha. Would James....? Kara thought as she spoke to the wolf. She was able to communicate through the Blue Moon's pack pink because of Alpha Hudson's commands but James never released such command regarding her, and if he did wouldn't she notice? She will have to bring this up with the Alpha Hudson the next chance she gets since she is unfamiliar with how the mind link in each pack works. She nod at James' wolf as it started off running, Kara motioned to the others to follow her and they all started off, dodging trees and branches racing to catch up with James as they made their way to the Night Walkers' territory. Not knowing the terror that awaits them.
