James' POV
"I still can't believe Alpha Hudson changed his mind about the alliance," Cameron said to James.
"Yea it is a bit strange," He replied.
"Do you think he's planning something?" Cameron asked as he opened the door leaving James' office.
"Maybe, keep an on his pack just in case their loyalty lays somewhere else," James replied as they both head towards the front door of the pack house.
Cameron stopped at the door and then turned to face him with a nod he replied, "I'm about to head out to the training grounds, The rest of the Blue Moon pack is there. I'll keep a close eye on them, especially their leaders."
"Besides they've been out there for a couple of hours now and it's already getting dark I need to let them know it's time to head in," Cameron said.
"Ok," He replied with a nod. "I need to make a few more calls to the neighboring packs. Hopefully, the Blue Moon pack isn't the only one afraid to fight with us." James told him. he was about to turn and leave when the door suddenly burst open.
"Mom?" He questioned.
"James my sweet boy," James' mother replied as she entered the house pulling a large suitcase behind her.
"Ah, what are you doing here? I thought you had a few more weeks left on your trip?" James asked curiously, following her as she made her way toward the living area.
"I had to come back after I heard what happened with the Nightwalkers pack." Mrs. Laurance said as she place her bag on the sofa and sat down. " How could you let this happen? With all the attacks we were receiving from the rogues you had to add another set of enemies to your list." She finished.
"It's not like that." He said unaware of how to tell her he went there to rescue someone from Kara's old pack, the hardest part is how to say to her that Kara was back. She had loathed Kara from the day James' father brought her to their pack and his death he took the chance to ridicule her even more. She was the reason why James had to reject Kara, it was not because she was weak or that she was an outsider, but because his mother blamed her for his father's death.
"Then what is it like?" She asked.
"It's a bit complicated," he replied, hopefully, she would just drop it and let him handle this on his own he is the Alpha after all.
What do you..." She was cut short as the door opened It was like the universe hated him and wanted to punish him because at that moment Kara stepped through the door. Crap, this is the one thing I fear.
"Mrs. Laurance," James heard a faint whisper slip from Kara's lips. Her face was pale as her eyes widen, she stared at his mother as if she was a living nightmare, but to Kara she probably is.
"Kara," Mrs. Laurance hissed, "What is she doing back here?" his mother spat.
"You, you have the nerve to step foot in our territory as if you belong here. You think you can claw your way back into the Blood Thirst pack, huh? " Mrs. Laurance said as she rose from her seat and approached Kara.
James stared at Kara, she looked as if she was frozen in time. She would always have that dauntless look on her face as if nothing can put her down. She would smile in the worst of times and never show her tears even when she is burning on the inside. James had no idea his mother could have this effect on her, she looks terrified as if a ghost she had fought endlessly to rid her mind of has awoken to taunt her once more.
"Let me tell you this, You, " She said as she pointed her long painted nails at Kara, "You will never have my son and you will never become the luna of this pack as long as I live." She finished.
"MOM!" James shouted, he knew his mother despised Kara, but she was taking it a bit too far. His wolf was railed up, he was angry at the way she spoke about his mate. his mother was now inches away from Kara who stared at her with a dull look in her eyes, it was like she was not even there. He glanced at Jason and Alexis who both had deranged looks on their face as though they would snap the neck of anything that dares to make a sound, and that was his mother.
Kara had found herself some great friends and allies that would follow her to the deepest parts of the earth without evening asking them to. He felt a prickling pain in his chest as his eyes meet Kara's. How could he have left her in so much pain all those years? he watched as everyone laughed and bullied her, he thought she was weak for not fighting back, and he ignored her when she asked for help and rejected her as his mate. How can he look at himself and say he wanted her now, after all those years?
James' mother raised her hand as if she was about to hit Kara. I will not stand to let her go through such pain ever again, he thought to himself. He took a step toward Kara to shield her from his mother but he was frozen, his body would not move at will, as if he was paralyzed. It felt as if a force was keeping him in place.
"Brandon! Brandon!" He called for his wolf, hoping he would help with figuring out what is happening to him.
"Brandon, are you there? Can you hear me?" He called worriedly wondering if whatever is happening to him had reached his wolves.
"I'm...here..." His wolf whimpered.
"What's happening to us? Why can't I move?" He asked.
"I can feel a dominating aura that's forcing us to submit." his wolf replied.
"What, one stronger than an Alpha's?" James' questioned. If Brandon is saying what he thinks he is saying then that could only mean one thing, there's a Royal Blood Alpha within their midst. No that can not be, Royal blood Alpha have been extinct for the past one hundred years.
James remembers his father would frequently speak about how powerful Royal Blood Alphas are and that they can dominate thousands if not all the wolfs in the world. They were the first shifters to have ever walked the earth, they were known as kings and queens of wolfs, no matter how strong of an Alpha you are no one could beat them, they could immobilize an entire pack with just one thought. The other Alphas' were fearful and jealous of their power and sought to kill them all. They did succeed, the entire royal blood Alphas were slaughtered in their sleep by their own pack.
The stories his father told him were fresh in his mind. He did not think much of it at first but now...
"If there is a Royal Blood Alpha here... We are all dead." James thought to himself, sweat pooling from his body as fear slowly wash over him. He frantically searched the room for anything out of place. His body was unmoving but he was able to move. He saw his mother kneeling on the ground, her hands clasped to her chest as she screamed but there was no sound. James' wondered if he was the one unable to hear or was it that his mother was completely silenced.
"Mom," he cried but his lips did not quiver. A raspy yet airy voice drew James' attention from his mother. The blood drained from his face as he witness the terror that was before him.
"Then I guess we're gonna have to get rid of you then," the voice echoed, it sounded distanced and breathlessly as if it was clawing at the back of his mind trying to take over his body, but at the same time it sounded as if the person was right in front of him.
He searched beyond his mother as his eyes landed on the person standing before her. Crimson red eyes stared ballistically at his mother, whose body lay lifelessly on the floor.
"Kara," James whispered, his eyes widened as he stared at her.
Her face resembled a wild beast as her hair grew wildly from its surface. It was as if her wolf was trying to take over without shifting. Her menacing demeanor seemed as if she could demolish an entire army within seconds. James' was unable to recognize her, her eyes were emotionless and blank, but the intensity of her gaze was enough to have anyone falling to their knees in horror.
"She is the one who is causing all of this?" James asked himself, still unable to believe what he was seeing. Kara's eyes snapped in James' direction and he could feel the lump in his throat enlargened as her eyes met his.
