Kara's POV The sun had already begun to set. Kara went to the field where they were training earlier to search for James. She saw Cameron with a group of guards, he gave them instructions on their shifts and where they were posted for the night. Kara approached him just as the guards went on their way. "Hey, have you seen Alpha James?"She asked. Cameron stopped in his tracks and stared at her. "He hasn't been back since he took off towards the forest," he answered. Kara glanced at the forest entrance and started walking towards it. "Hey," Cameron called out to her. "He has been falling apart since the day you left five years ago, he thought you died or were captured, and now you came back messing around with an unmated wolf breaking him all over again." He finished, and Kara headed in the direction James went earlier without a word to Cameron. He thought he knew everything, he thought James was the one who broke, well he was very wrong. Turns out no one knew the real reason Kara left, no one knew she was their alpha's, true mate. They all hated her and, even now, they still ridicule her even though she had done nothing wrong to them or their alpha. Kara walked for a few miles before she stopped at a water clearing. There she saw James on the grass gazing at the most beautiful scene she had ever seen. A huge waterfall around twenty feet deep stood right in front of her, the hills were adorned by the most breathtaking trees and flowers, and a row of dandelions and rose bushes surrounded the land, which made it appear like it was in another world. The sounds of the water as it met the riverbed made her dream of the ocean once more. She gasped at the sight and had now drawn the attention of James. James stared at her, she had a huge smile on her face as she gushed at her beauty. James smiled; he had never seen her in such peace. Before, she always had a sad and hurt expression on her face and whenever he approached her, fear was written all over her face, even after she had returned, she was cold towards anyone who approached her. "Ahem" James cleared his throat to get her attention. Kara glanced at him and once she realized he saw her, she gave him a stern glare which only caused James to smile as he recalled his previous thoughts. "Why are you here?" He asked. Kara started at the water as she thought about what she was about to do. Does she really want to reject her mate? Will she have a chance at love or find another to fill this void inside? She thought long and hard about the decision. She needs to make a choice. "I know why you're here," James said as he stared at the bright green grass informing him. He plucked a piece of the grass and played with it in his hand as he stared deeply into her sparkling brown eyes. "I—" Kara abruptly stopped as a growl was heard coming from the rose bushes behind her. She slowly turned her body around to see a ragged wolf staring at her. The wolf had a huge scar resembling a hook around its eye, it was very small to the point where you could see its ribs piercing its skin as if it had not eaten properly in weeks. He had a mixture of brown and blonde fur coating his body. She recognized them as rogues. James slowly stood beside Kara, as wolves started to appear from behind the bushes. The first wolf stepped closer to her, growling even louder than before. The wolves were now circling around them. James crouched in a fighting stance, ready to fight. Kara calmly observed them intensely trying to figure out their moves. The brown wolf approached them, it leapt toward James' mouth. Opening and his canines shaped and ready to clutch at his arm, James dodged the attack and pounced on him, transforming into his wolf in the process. Kara took no chance and transformed into her wolf. She attacked the wolf nearest to her, tackled him to the ground, biting his neck in the process, she held him in place, and she heard a loud snap as his body limped in her mouth. She dropped his body to the ground and attacked the others, ripping them limp from limp until there was nothing left. She glanced at James to see him surrounded by three wolves. One grabbed his leg and bit down at it, James limped to the ground and the other wolves took that as an opportunity to attack him. Kara dashed towards them, she grabbed one of the wolves by its leg and pulled him away from James. She bit down on his leg, then she pulled extremely hard, ripping it clean from the wolf's body. When the wolf fell to the ground, she pounced on him and ripped his head off. James had managed to kill the wolves that were attacking him, but in the process, the brown wolf who seemed to be the leader escaped. "Are you OK?" Kara asked James through their mind link. "Yeah, I'm fine." James replied, "Let's head back before they decide to retaliate," James said as he limped towards the pathway to head back to their pack. Kara ran towards him, she placed her head underneath his upper body and hoisted him on her shoulder. He gave her a weak smile as he tried to suppress his pain. A few minutes later, Kara spotted the packhouse but they were still far from it. Kara was exhausted from the fight, and James' now unconscious body had passed out from losing too much blood. Kara howled, hoping she could draw the attention of someone, anyone. The howl was weak and could barely be heard by anyone within a five-mile radius, but she didn't give up and she kept howling as loudly as she could. Her throat was now hoarse, her eyes felt weak. Kara collapsed to the ground, she glanced in the direction of the packhouse, and as her eyes closed she heard her name being called as someone approached them. She closed her eyes, allowing the darkness to consume her. Kara could hear shuffling around her, she tried to open her eyes, her lids felt heavy but she forced them open. She saw a blurred figure walking around a room, a room? When did she get here? JAMES, she thought as memories of what happened flooded her mind. "James?" She called, her throat felt dry and her voice sounded raspy as she tried to call him once more. "what's happing?" a voice asked, as she frantically tried to ask for James. "James, Where is James?" She asked no one in particular. "Keep her steady." she heard, but this was not from the first voice. "Och" She felt something sharp on her arm, she started feeling extremely tired, and her eyes felt heavy as her lids closed. She continued to slip in and out of consciousness as the darkness consumed her once more.
