Unknown POV
The wind blew wildly, filling the atmosphere with a fresh earthy scent that comes when it is about to rain. Thunder boomed in the distance as lightning lit the sky, giving it a magnificent glow. Stern eyes scanned the battlefields below as warriors trained fiercely like they were at war with their worst enemies.
"They're here, Alpha," a warrior spoke.
A sinister smile appeared on his lips as he slightly tilted his head towards the balcony door. "Our guests have finally arrived," he replied.
Kara's POV
Kara halted in her tracks as a large rusted gate covered with vines and wild grass appeared in front of her. She lifted her chin and stared at the gate as she tried to find a way through it.
A slight growl was heard behind her, Kara glanced in the direction of the sound, and there stood Leon. He nudged his head in the direction of the wall connected to the gate, it also had vines and wild grass running all over its surface. Leon's wolf approached the wall and used his jaws to pull the vines away from the wall to reveal a gap big enough for a wolf to pass through. He indicated for them to get in before he dropped the vines and went in after them, making sure to cover the area so no one could find it.
They all hid as they waited for Leon to lead the way toward the pack's holding cells.
Kara's heart raced as the thought of seeing Raynor popped into her head. It has been twelve years since her entire pack was brutally murdered, and it is a miracle that both of her childhood friends survived. The adrenaline rushed through her veins as she impatiently sniffed the air for his scent. Within a few seconds, she picked up something familiar, but it went as instantly as it came.
"Kara, this way." Leon's voice called out to her, breaking her thoughts. Leon approached her and nudged her in the direction of a door leading toward the holding cells. The gate was large with iron bars and a vast lock bolted it shut. How are we ever going to break through, Kara thought, but that was the least of her worries. Two guards were stationed at the door, and not only that, at least five guards were pacing the yard in front of them. The door was at least ten feet away from where they stood, and a few trees aligned the area, but it was not enough to hide them from the guards.
"We need a distraction," Kara said.
She turned towards Jason and Alexia and nodded her head, they both nodded back at her to signal they understood their task. They immediately took off, running further into the forest to where they came from. Within a minute, a howl was heard, and Kara watched as the guards ran towards the sound, disappearing behind the trees.
"That should buy them at least twenty minutes, enough to retrieve Raynor and get out before anyone notices," Kara said, unsure if they could hear her like before.
James and Leon nodded as they both followed behind her as she raced towards the door. She stopped in front of the prison entrance and scanned the area for more guards. Relieved that there was no one around. She turned to see how James and Leon were doing with getting the lock open, but they were already inside. But how? She questioned herself, knowing that the lock was too hard for them to break that easily. She stepped inside the dimly lit passage and slowly descended the stairs, falling in step with James. They both followed Leon as he led the way toward the holding cells.
The walls were covered with weeds and vines, the same ones that were covering the walls outside. Water dripped from cracks in the ceiling, and moss grew from these cracks to various parts of the wall and ground. It was muddy and cold, and the floor was sticky, making it difficult to walk. The sound of eerie cries, wailing, and howls echoed throughout the prison walls. The smell of blood and rotten flesh was stifling. The entire ambiance sent chills down Kara's spine as she walked past each cell. Why is it that every prison smells and reeks of this horrid stench? Does it kill them to clean every once in a while? She thought as she stepped into another puddle; she tried to avoid it but bumped into James' wolf, causing him to fall. The commotion caught Leon's attention, and he turned to see what was going on. He laughed as he saw James' wolf covered in mud and dripping with water. She quickly turned away so James would not catch her laughing.
They walked for a few more minutes before Leon's wolf stopped in front of a cell. He released a growl as he stared angrily at the person inside. Kara's Wolf peeked inside and saw a figure in the corner of the room. Its bright eyes sparkled in the darkness, and Kara could recognize those brown orbs anywhere.
"Raynor?". She questioned, hoping he heard her.
The loud clanging of chains hit the floor as the figure rose from the ground. They made a resounding sound as his body limped toward the cell door, he grabbed the rail on the door as he slumped against it. His face was dimly illuminated by the soft glow of the ceiling lights, tears welled in Kara's eyes as distant memories of her past flooded her mind. Raynor's silky brown hair, which was always neatly cut and groomed, was now long and disheveled, his clothes were torn and stained with blood, and his face was covered in bruises.
"Leon?" He questioned. The orange-colored wolf stepped closer to him and nodded, "You came back for me." He said with a weak voice. Kara's Wolf turned to James, pointing to the door; he nodded and went searching for something to break it down. A few seconds later, he returned with a bunch of keys in his mouth. He dropped them in front of the cell door, and Raynor reached to pick them up, pain was visible on his face as he grabbed the keys. Whatever they did to him must have been terrible, Kara thought. It took a while for him to open the cell door, but when he did immediately fell, luckily, Leon's wolf was right beside the door, and he caught him before he could hit the floor. Leon positioned him properly on his back, he nodded to Kara and James, signaling they were ready to go, so they could head back to the others and off this godforsaken land.
At the prison's entrance, James went ahead and peeked through the grass and vines, then motioned for them to follow him. The yard was empty as before, and there were no guards on site. That's weird, Kara thought. There should be at least two or more guards around this area guarding the prison. Dismissing her thoughts, they headed for the forest, with James leading them. Within the next thirty minutes, they were along the main road where they had hidden the motorcycles. Alexis and Jason were already there. They had already shifted back into their human form and were waiting for them.
That was way too easy, Kara thought once she had settled herself.
Leon's wolf gently lay Raynor on the ground as he went to shift back. Kara and James' wolf followed suit and did the same. A few minutes later, they all stood staring at Raynor. Kara had to look carefully to see the rise and fall of his chest as well as to use her wolf's hearing to hear his heartbeat.
"He's pretty exhausted. We need to get him back ASAP," Jason said.
Everyone nodded in agreement as Leon and Kara began to lift Raynor carefully.
"Don't you think it's a bit weird how we went in and out without a problem?" Kara questioned as she recalled the events.
"You're right. When Jason and I distracted them in the forest, they chased us for a while, then they just went back to their territory as though nothing happened," Alexis stated. "For a notorious pack, they take a break in very lightly." She finished.
"I doubt it," James said, "The Night Walkers are known to be ruthless and punish anyone, even their own, for the simplest of crimes. So I doubt they will take this lightly. They might not have realized that someone broke in as yet, and when they do…. Let's get out of here before they do." James stated as he searched their surrounding for anything suspicious or out of place.
Leon and Kara placed Raynor on the back of James' bike and then proceeded to mount their own bikes. Following James' lead, they started their engined and sped off to Blood Thirst Pack.
