James' POV
"I hope you know what you're doing," Cameron said as he watched Kara walk through the door. "I know she's your mate and all, but don't forget she is not Luna, which means she has no right to make decisions in our pack." he finished.
James stared at Cameron. Within a swift moment, he grabbed Cameron by the neck and pushed him against the wall. He emitted a low growl, as he pushed him further against the wall.
"You should be mindful of how you speak to your alpha about his mate. Currently, my Brandon is itching to take over so he can rip that tongue out of your mouth because of what you just said." James growled. Cameron stared at him with wide eyes. James' eyes turned a bright shade of red as he commenced dominance over his Beta. Cameron's eyes fell to the ground as his wolf whimpered and quivered in fear.
"I-I'm s-sorry," he managed to keep out in a squeal. James released, who slipped to the floor.
No one but Cameron knew Kara was his mate. He managed to tell Cameron a couple of years ago after Kara left, he was in a state where he was unable to focus, unable to think or perform his duties, which would result in complete isolation. His Wolf silenced himself because of the decision he made when he thought of rejecting Kara. But he managed to show himself once Kara came back to the pack like he was waiting for her. He will not allow anyone, not even his Beta, to speak ill about her, and one day he will make her his mate, no matter how long it takes.
"Cameron, think of this as more of an opportunity," James started as he straightened his suit. "It's rather simple actually. We wouldn't have gotten any information if all we did was torture him. But now we can use Kara's connection to him to get the answers we need." James finished with a devious smile.
"Are you sure this will work?" Cameron asked as he rose from the floor.
"If it makes you feel any better, I'll personally stay by her side," James replied, "and when we get what we need from him, you'll be free to dispose of him as you wish." He finished with a reassuring look.
"Are you sure we will be able to do that?" Cameron asked, "Based on what we just witnessed, if we try to do anything to harm him, your mate will definitely protect him." he finished.
"Don't worry, I'll take care of Kara," James replied as he left the cell. thought.
Kara's POV
Kara watched as Leon slept soundlessly in the infirmary. It has been three hours since he received treatment and he hasn't woken up since then. A herd of questions dawned on her as she watched him sleep. She wanted him to wake up so she could learn more about what happened to him, where he had been all these years and if there were any other survivors. She covered her face with her hands as she tried to gather her thoughts. This was all too much, all the memories of her life started replaying before her eyes, unsure of what to think anymore.
"Kara....?" A weak voice asked. Kara lifted her head to see Leon staring back at her. She quickly got to his side and held his hand.
"Yea it's me, Kara," she told him with a smile on her face, trying her best to hold her tears.
"But how? We thought you were killed," he replied, his voice hoarded from the lack of speech. Kara's eyes widened as he said 'we', which meant there were more of them.
"What do you mean by we--" she was cut off as the door creaked open. James entered the room and Kara started at him with a questioning look.
"I'm here to get answers just like you, I promise I won't do him any harm," James said, knowing exactly what her eyes were asking. He approached her side and caught a glimpse of Kara's hand wrapped around Leon's own. James started at her for a while, he then grabbed her hand and pulled it away from Leon's own. Kara was surprised by the action and allowed James to pull her into his embrace. Kara's face lit up as she felt James' arms around her.
Leon watched the scene in front of him with curiosity, as if they were a different species. As if Kara just realized where she was, she pushed away from James' embrace, this time without falling, and approved Leon once more.
"What's going on?" Leon asked, anger visible all over his face as he sat up straight in his bed. His face was almost completely healed, and Kara's heart melted as she remembered the shy boy she had grown up with.
"I am Alpha James of the Blue Moon pack. But, you already know that since you were out to kill me, isn't that right?" James asked, his face rid of any emotion.
Leon lowered his head as he recalled what happened. "Yes, I already know who you are, Alpha James." He replied through gritted teeth.
"Why were you out to kill me? And were you also involved with all the attacks we've received recently?" James asked, eager to know more.
"We only attacked because you attacked us first." Leon replied as his eyes met James', his anger only seeming to rise more.
"What do you mean 'we' attacked first?" James asked as he took a step forward. Kara stepped between the two, it seemed as if they were about to attack at any moment. They both relaxed as they saw her. She released a sigh of relief as she turned to James.
"Let me handle this," she told him. Without allowing him to answer, she turned towards Leon and continued. "How did you survive?" she asked, the one question occupying her mind since she saw him.
Leon stiffened as he lowered his head, staring at his hands in his lap. He recalled everything that happened that day as if it was just yesterday.
"Just like everyone else, we were ordered to stay indoors when the attack started, but Raynor insisted we go out to search for you.
Leon's POV
"Where are you going?" Leon asked as Raynor grabbed a gun that was placed in a cabinet inside his house. The wall was covered from head to toe with different kinds of weapons. That was expected since his father was the Beta and the person in charge of training the pack warriors and weaponry.
"We're going to get Kara." He replied.
"Wait, what? What do you mean?" Leon replied, his body jerking back as he heard shots fired in their direction. Leon and Raynor crouched on the floor as the bullets burst to throw the glass windows, hitting everything in their path.
"Are you seriously gonna go out there!" Leon shouted as the shots were seized. "We'll be killed instantly!" he finished.
"We'll be killed whether we stay here or not," Raynor replied as he opened the door to leave. "Are you coming or not?" He asked as he went through the door, slamming it shut behind him.
Leon grabbed his head in panic. Why is this happening? What are we gonna do? Should I go with Raynor? What if we get killed before finding Kara? The questions flooded Leon's mind as he stared at the broken windows. He grabbed the door handle, and as he opened the door a bullet flew through it, burning a bright red hole through the drywall behind him. His mouth flew open in horror as he stared at the site before him. Men, women and children, were scattered across the ground covered in a pool of thick red blood. Men in their wolf form attack each other, teeth gnashing, women and children screaming, men shouting and shots firing away bring havoc on the Shadow pack. It was like a historical battlefield.
He saw Raynor running through the massacred battle towards the pack house, a huge grey wolf pounced in the air ready to rip his head off. Leon grabbed a gun he saw lying on the ground near a dead wolf and ran towards them. When he was close enough, he aimed at the wolf's head and fired the gun. The silver bullet flew through the air and hit the grey wolf in its neck, it collapsed to the ground, pulling Raynor down along with him.
"Give me your hand," Leon said as he reached his hand out for Raynor to take. He stared at him and grabbed his hand. Leon pulled him to stand and they both ran towards the pack house.
"Do you know where she is?" Leon asked Raynor, who was busy scanning the area in search of Kara.
"No, let's check inside." He said as he ran towards the door. A familiar shriek echoed throughout the battlefield, causing everything around it to stop, the bloodshed and fighting stopped, the screams and shouts all seized and everyone stared in utter shock and horror from where the sound resonated.
A little girl stood in the middle of the battlefield, her thick black hair blowing around her as her blood-red eyes glistened in the light of the moon. She was both magnificent and terrifying at the same time.
"Kara?" Raynor whispered as he watched the twelve-year-old girl he had been with his entire life showing a part of her no one knew existed. Leon looked in utter horror as he watched Kara stare at the men with death in her eyes.
Kara screamed once more and this time louder than before.
"What? What's happening?" Leon asked as he watched the men that attacked their pack along with their own pack members fall to the ground one after the other.
"We need to run," Raynor said to Leon, who stood glued to his spot, unable to move out of fear. Raynor grabbed his arm and pulled him towards the forest. They ran as far as they could deep into the forest until they were unable to hear her screams.
"What--" Loen tried to say out of breath, "what was that? He managed to ask. Kara was as if she was no longer herself, and what did she do to everyone? Why did they fall like that?
"We need to find somewhere to hide," Raynor said as he started walking deeper into the forest.
"Wait are we going to just leave her?" Leon asked.
"There's no saying Kara when she's like that." Raynor stopped and answered. "If we go back now we might as well be killed along with everyone else," Raynor said over his shoulder.
"We'll get help from neighbouring packs and then come back for her." he finished.
Leon nodded and followed behind Raynor as they left the Shadow pack territory.
Kara's POV
"We tried getting help from neighbouring packs, but they refused us and said they would not partake in any war that would endanger their own pack," Leon told Kara and James.
"Over the years, we gained allies with rogues all over the area. That night when we attacked, we had no idea it was James Alpha of the blood thrust pack and you," he said as he turned to face Kara, he stared at her with sad eyes.
Kara turned her face away from him as the memories of that night flooded her mind. The memory replayed vividly in her mind. She remembered how she found her parent's bodies in the woods, how she cried endlessly until her eyes burned. She remembered when Alpha Kane found her surrounded by her dead pack members. She sighed, then looked back at Leon who was still staring at her with a mixture of emotions visible in his eyes.
"So Raynor is alive," she said under her breath, his best friend, and first love. Kara and Raynor grew up together, they would stick to each other like glue, not like they were actually stuck together with glue once, but that's a story for another night. He was the Beta's son, so she was always at the packing house. He and Kara would explore, train and play together and she felt pure emptiness when she thought he was gone.
"What were you doing gout in the forest that night if you weren't after us?" James asked Leon.
"We were out hunting," Leon replied, "after all. After rogues. We don't have food on demand like you do here, so we have to hunt for our food. You guys were just a slight mishap." He finished.
James furred his brow as he thought about his answer, not too convinced that what he said was true.
"Where is he?" Kara asked, not allowing James to continue interrogating him.
"Ah," Leon replied.
"I-I don't know." He managed to say, "We were attacked by a pack when we visited the north, and he, along with a few of our recruits, was captured. I haven't seen or heard from him since." He finished as he lowered his head.
"I'm sorry." He whispered to himself, "I'm sorry I couldn't protect him. After all, he's done for me, and in the end, I couldn't save him. Instead, I ran." he dropped his head in his hands as he wept.
"Which pack is it?" Kara asked, ready to kill anyone who stood in her way of finding him.
"I will not lose him, not again." She whispered.
