The mysterious CEO

570 Words
The rain fell softly over the city as Ariana arrived early for her second day at Sterling Group. She wanted to make a good impression. Her manager smiled. "Good morning, Ariana. The CEO is visiting today." "The CEO?" Ariana asked. "Yes. He's been overseas for years. Today is his first day back." The entire office buzzed with excitement. Everyone wondered what he would be like. At 10:00 a.m., the conference room doors opened. A tall man in a dark suit walked in, followed by several executives. His calm expression and confident steps commanded everyone's attention. "This is Mr. Adrian Knight, our new CEO." The room erupted in applause. Adrian briefly looked around the room. Then his eyes stopped on Ariana. For a moment, he seemed surprised. Not because he knew her... But because she reminded him of someone from his past. He quickly looked away. "Let's begin the meeting," he said. After the meeting, Ariana accidentally dropped a folder. Papers scattered across the floor. Before she could pick them up, someone knelt beside her. It was Adrian. "Here," he said, handing her the papers. "Thank you, sir." "You don't have to call me 'sir.' Adrian is fine." Ariana smiled politely. "I'll remember that." Watching from across the hallway, several employees whispered. "The CEO never helps anyone." "Why was he so kind to her?" Ariana ignored the gossip and returned to work. Meanwhile... Ethan sat alone in his office. He couldn't concentrate. He opened social media, hoping to distract himself. Instead, he saw a photo of Sterling Group's welcome event. In the background was Ariana. She was smiling. A real smile. Ethan stared at the picture. "So... she's happy without me." For the first time, he realized that Ariana's world had continued moving forward. And he had been left behind. That evening, Sophia received another phone call. She stepped outside onto the balcony. "I told you not to call me anymore," she whispered. "We need more money," the man on the other end said. "I've already done everything I could." "If Ethan learns the truth, you'll lose everything." Sophia's hands shook. "I'll handle it." She ended the call and leaned against the railing, breathing heavily. She didn't notice Ethan standing behind the half-open balcony door. He hadn't heard the whole conversation... But he had heard enough to know something was wrong. "Who were you talking to?" he asked. Sophia quickly turned around. "My cousin." "You sounded scared." "I... it's a family problem." Ethan looked at her for a long moment. He wanted to believe her. But doubt had quietly entered his heart. The next morning... Adrian called Ariana into his office. She wondered if she had made a mistake. Instead, Adrian smiled. "I've reviewed your work." Ariana held her breath. "You solved a problem that my senior team couldn't fix." "I was just doing my job." He nodded. "That's exactly why I want you to lead an important project." Ariana was stunned. "Me?" "Yes. I trust your ability." As she left the office, she felt hope growing stronger. She was finally being recognized for who she was—not for who she had loved. But she didn't know that someone was already watching her success with jealousy. Outside the building, a black car was parked across the street. Inside, an unknown person lowered a pair of binoculars. "So... Ariana has become stronger," the stranger whispered. "But this is only the beginning."
