TOMORROW'S LAST HOPE Episode 5: The Desert of Echoes Part Five — The Fifth Bearer The train disappeared beneath Meridian City. Noah remained near the rear carriage, watching the tunnel lights flash past the windows. His reflection stared back at him. The vision wouldn't leave his mind. Liam. A broken sword. Darkness surrounding him. And a future that felt far too real. Noah closed his eyes. "That isn't going to happen." A voice answered from the opposite side of the carriage. "You sound very certain." Noah opened his eyes. A man in a dark coat sat several seats away. Noah immediately became cautious. "Who are you?" The stranger smiled. "Someone who knows what you are." Noah's pulse quickened. "The Fifth Bearer." The stranger leaned forward. "You've awakened something that has been sleeping for centuries." Noah stood. "How do you know about the Bearers?" "I've been searching for them." "Why?" The man reached inside his coat. Noah's mark flashed. He saw three possible futures. In one, the stranger pulled out a weapon. In another, Noah attacked first. In the third... The man revealed an old photograph. No weapon. Just a photograph. Noah stared at it. Seven people stood in front of the same ancient gate he had seen in his visions. The photograph looked impossibly old. "Who are they?" "The first Bearers." Noah's expression changed. "How do you have this?" "Because one of them left behind a message." The stranger placed the photograph on the seat. "He said that when the Fifth awakened, the world would enter its final stage." Noah slowly picked it up. "What message?" The stranger looked toward the tunnel. "He said..." A distant rumble interrupted him. The train began slowing. "...never allow the Seven to enter the Gate together." Noah's heart sank. "What happens if they do?" The stranger didn't answer. The train stopped. The doors opened. When Noah looked back toward the man... He was gone. Several hours later, Marcus's transport crossed the desert. Liam sat beside the window. Aria and Mira were discussing their abilities. Ethan was studying the symbols on his spear. Kai remained near the controls. Commander Reyes was reviewing the latest intelligence. Then the communication system activated. A voice came through. "Approaching Meridian." Marcus adjusted the controls. "We'll land outside the city." Liam looked toward the skyline. "Do we know where the Fifth Bearer is?" Kai shook his head. "No." "But we know he's there." Dr. Hart brought up the latest energy readings. "The signal appeared briefly, then vanished." Liam frowned. "Could he be hiding?" "Probably." Mira suddenly looked toward the window. "Someone is coming." Everyone turned. Far across the desert, a single figure was walking toward them. Marcus slowed the transport. "That's impossible." The figure continued approaching. It was Noah. He had traveled all the way from the underground station. Liam stepped outside. Noah stopped several meters away. For a moment, neither spoke. Then Noah raised his hand. The mark glowed. Liam's responded. Aria's followed. Ethan's. Mira's. Four lights became five. The sky above them brightened. A massive pattern appeared among the clouds. Seven symbols. Five were glowing. Two remained dark. Kai stared upward. "We've found him." Noah looked at Liam. "You're the First Bearer." "Yes." "I saw you." Liam frowned. "Saw me where?" "In the future." Everyone became silent. Noah explained everything. The Gate. The photograph. The stranger. And the vision of Liam standing alone with a broken sword. Liam listened carefully. "Can you change what you see?" Noah shook his head. "I don't know." "Then we'll make sure that future never happens." Noah studied him. "You really believe that?" Liam nodded. "I have to." For the first time, Noah smiled. "Then I want to help." Night fell over Meridian. The five Bearers gathered inside an abandoned research facility Marcus had discovered beneath the city. Maps covered the walls. Dr. Hart had marked every known energy signal. Five locations were now confirmed. Two remained unknown. Kai studied the information. "We've found the First, Second, Third, Fourth, and Fifth." Mira pointed toward the remaining locations. "What about the Sixth and Seventh?" "Nothing." No signal. No trace. No clue. Noah looked at the map. "Maybe they're not ready." Kai disagreed. "They're awakening." "Then why can't we detect them?" Noah's expression became thoughtful. "Maybe because someone is hiding them." The room fell silent. Commander Reyes looked at him. "Who?" Noah remembered the stranger on the train. "I don't know." Suddenly, every screen in the facility turned black. A symbol appeared. The King's symbol. Then a message. FIVE HAVE GATHERED. The words disappeared. A second message replaced them. TWO REMAIN. Then came the final sentence. FIND THEM BEFORE WE DO. The screens went dark. Marcus stepped away from the equipment. "That wasn't a broadcast." Kai nodded. "It was a warning." "No," Noah said. Everyone looked at him. His mark was glowing. "It was a challenge." Far beneath the earth... The King stood inside a vast chamber. Six figures surrounded him. Five were Generals. The sixth remained hidden. "The Fifth has joined them," Varkon said. The King nodded. "Excellent." Nyra stepped forward. "The Bearers are beginning to understand." "They've discovered the Gate." The King smiled. "Let them." Varkon looked uncertain. "Shouldn't we stop them?" The King turned toward him. "No." He walked toward a massive circular structure. Inside it, two symbols remained dark. "The Sixth and Seventh are the most important." Nyra asked, "Do you know where they are?" The King stopped. "Of course." He placed his hand against the structure. Two locations appeared. One beneath an enormous frozen mountain. The other... Inside a crowded city. The King's eyes glowed. "The Sixth is already being watched." "And the Seventh..." He smiled. "...doesn't even know what they are." Back in Meridian, the five Bearers stood on the roof of the facility. The city stretched beneath them. Millions of people were sleeping. Millions of people had no idea what was happening above them. Liam looked toward the horizon. "Tomorrow, we find the Sixth." Aria nodded. "And then the Seventh." Ethan lifted his spear. Mira's violet weapon glowed softly. Noah looked at the stars. Five Bearers. Two missing. One ancient Gate. And an enemy who seemed to know their every move. Then Noah suddenly froze. His eyes changed. A vision had begun. He saw snow. A mountain. A young person standing alone beneath a frozen sky. Then the image shifted. He saw a city. Thousands of people. A child running through a crowded street. Then darkness. A voice whispered: "One will save them." Another voice answered: "One will destroy them." Noah gasped. The vision ended. Liam hurried toward him. "What did you see?" Noah looked at the others. "The Sixth." "Where?" "In the mountains." "And the Seventh?" Noah hesitated. "Inside a city." Kai looked toward the stars. "Then we split the search." Commander Reyes shook her head. "No. We stay together." Liam nodded. "She's right." The five stood silently beneath the night sky. For the first time, they understood the scale of their mission. They weren't simply searching for people with mysterious powers. They were gathering the pieces of an ancient war. And somewhere beyond the horizon... Two more Bearers were waiting. One would be found beneath the frozen mountains. The other was already living among ordinary people. Neither knew that their lives were about to change forever. Above them, the stars shifted. Seven points of light formed a perfect circle. Five burned brightly. Two remained dark. Then one of the dark points flickered. Once. Twice. And finally... It awakened.
