We almost lost Jade and Felix to the forest. Felix, who looked ashamed, said he heard his mom calling out to him. I could see how he hated the weakness he felt. Jade wouldn't say a word as she looked at the trees in horror.
"Jade," I whispered as I made her look at me. She finally seemed to focus on the people in front of her before she shrugged Felix's arms off her and started to walk farther up the trail. Felix kept his eyes on her until the trail turned into dark stone.
I stopped and stared down at the dark stone. I glanced up at Felix who shrugged before following Nathaniel who had gotten quite far ahead of us.
