The Mirror

"Well," Nathaniel said as he examined Maximus, "I have no way of telling. I wish I could for all of our safety." "Thanks, anyway," I said as I glanced down at Maximus. He looked...scared, "it'll be okay, Maximus." "Sure," he said as he rolled off the bed and walked out. He definitely didn't believe me. Not that I believed myself. "Alaina," Felix said from behind me. I turned to look back at him with a tired smile. He held Asher in his arms and he held the same tired look as me, "I have something to show you." "What is it?" I asked as he led me away. We walked through the hallways and up the stairs to the tower. "Felix," I pulled on his arm, fear gripping my heart, "is your mom okay?" "Oh, she's fine. Well, the same as she's always been," Felix shrugged, "I...you remember the mirror you told me about." "Yeah..." "Well," he opened the door. Annabella sat by the window as she always did with Jasmine combing her hair. The only difference was the mirror that was sitting in the center of the room. It still stood on the same stand so that one could only look down on it. "Felix," I said as I stepped closer to it. It filled me with a feeling of unease. What will it show me this time? I swallowed as I turned towards Felix, "why?" "It could be useful," he said with a shrug, "I thought it could show you something about Erin and Nezzura." "Yeah..." I said as I stepped closer. "You don't have to do it now," he told me and I let out a dry laugh. "I'll lose my nerve if don't," I told him as I stepped up to it and held on to the edges of the mirror. I saw my face and my messy brown hair. It had grown long in the past few weeks. I'd have to remember to cut it. My green eyes looked back at me in fear as the scene began to change. I closed my eyes for a moment before tearing them open to see what the future holds. Hopefully life but I knew that was too much to ask for.
