02 - Found My Mate

1190 Words
By the time we get home, the sun has already set and the entire pack was gathering at the compound. I carried the girl inside under the watchful eyes of my pack member as Roy goes to call my mom to my dad’s office. I have to let them know that I’ve found my mate. Casey came and took Laila from my arms as I went straight to the alpha’s office. “I heard you brought the stranger home” my dad says leaning back into his seat. “She’s just a pup dad” I reply going to stand by the window. “She’s not a pup, she’s an unknown kid who has been brought to our pack lands by a suspicious woman.” His statement stabs me like a thousand knives but I ignore it and ask “So what do you suggest we do?” The door opens, my mom, Deborah, Roy and Casey walk in. “Lock her up” my dad says casually and I frown. Even if she wasn’t my mate, she was still a harmless child. I didn’t even realize when I growled at him, as Daemon fights to get out. “What is wrong with you?” my mother asks with a frown and I ignore her as Roy comes to my rescue. “The kid is his mate and he has imprinted on her” Roy announces with concern and everyone gasp as they all look at me. “You did what?!” Deborah asks looking at me with red eyes. “We all know imprinting on one’s mate is not something within our control. The bond has already been formed and separating the two will be of consequence.” Roy says making the slightest bit of guilt I felt for Deborah vanish in an instant. “Lock the kid up while we investigate her but the celebration will hold as planned” My dad says and I look at him like he’s gone crazy. I was about to say something when Casey bit me to it “No one is locking up a kid.” “Who gave you the right to speak?” Deborah snaps and I scowl. She didn’t have the right to be here so how dare she question my brother’s wife? “As a member of this family and as a mother, I do have the right to speak. The girl is only a child and I don’t sense anything bad about her. I’ll perform a ritual to ensure that she isn’t being manipulated by magic and that the mate bond is real.” “Yes, until then, I suggest we cancel the mating ceremony” Roy said as he looked at my dad expectantly. “What?!” Deborah screams and my mom pats her back to calm her down. She looks aggrieved but only because the title she’s dreamed of for so long has been snatched just like that. If not for her exceptional skills, I wouldn’t have agreed to have her but she’s a great fighter so that ensures our pups would be strong. I was doing it all for the pack anyway so her attitude was of no concern to me. However, looking at her now, I can’t help but feel repulsed. How was I planning to live the rest of my life with this woman? “He already has a mate” Roy says rolling his eyes at her. “The mate bond could be a fake!” she screamed, staring at my dad with tears in her eyes. “Until that is confirmed, we’ll postpone the mating ceremony but I’m retiring tonight” my dad said, got up and left the room. I didn’t realize I was holding my breath until Roy placed his arm around my shoulder. “I’m so happy for you dude” he says and I smile but am not sure I feel the same. I should be happy that after a century of searching, I finally found my mate but there’s still a lot we don’t know about her and the person who brought her here. My crowning ceremony went as planned without a woman by my side and the pack wasn’t very pleased but they wouldn’t say it out loud, they didn’t need to because it was written all over their faces. Casey spent the night running the tests as she promised and we are all seated in my office waiting for her reply. “The girl is clean, there are no traces of being under a spell” I feel my body relax considerably as I sigh in relief. “The mate bond?” my mom ask looking at her expectantly. “Since, she isn’t under a spell, the imprinting was natural.” Nodding, my dad asks “Did you find anything that can help us track down the woman who brought her here?” My father’s question makes my heart skip a beat. For a second, I forgot that she was still considered a threat until we find out why she was dropped off at our borders. “No, but my test suggests she’s a magic being” Casey nervously reply as she scratches the back of her hand. I arch an eyebrow at her as I ask “She was created by a witch?” “No, we witches are magical beings and she’s a bit like us but I’ve never felt her type of magic before.” “Is that a good thing or a bad thing?” I ask not knowing how to react, everything happening is just giving me a damn headache. “It’s neither a good thing or a bad thing” she says cautiously, scratching the back of her neck and I immediately know she’s hiding something. Roy squeezes her arm confirming my suspicion but exposing their lie would mean shooting myself so I’ll ask them later. “Is there a way to find the woman?” my dad asks and I turn to look at him. Honestly, I don’t find it necessary to find the woman since the paper Laila gave me proves they might be running from something. I shouldn’t be hiding that from everyone but telling them would only make them worry. “No, I can only track her if I have something that belongs to the woman.” I shut my eyes at her revelation wondering if the piece of paper would be enough. “So, you just expect us to let an unknown entity be in the pack?” My mom asks with a frown and I sigh. She has spent the past month going mother daughter shopping with Deborah so I get how uncomfortable she was feeling. “I believe she’s is meant to be here, her bond to the Alpha is proof enough.” Casey snaps losing her cool with my mom which is an often occurrence. My mom also disapproved of Casey’s mating to Roy because she’s a witch and now, her 1st son has been mated to another unknown magic being. This is going to be a drag.
