The mention of Dr. James’s wife hung in the air with a very persistent and unsettling question mark.
What possible connection could she have to this tangled situation, and how did she factor into the appearance of this “new Martha?” Did she have something to do with it? But what was her gain in all of it? The questions just came running through my mind without a stop.
