I didn’t even notice when the tears began to fall.
Alone in that unfamiliar room, surrounded by walls that weren’t mine, the weight of everything I’d endured came crashing down. The silence was both foreign and jarring but for the first time in what felt like years, I could actually breathe. There was no Cassian hovering over me. No presence pressing down on my every thought.
And in that stillness, the questions began to rise.
How did I let it get this far?
Why wasn’t I ever enough?
Why couldn’t he change?
