Chapter Two

1662 Words
*UNKNOWN* Carrying the fragile body of a girl who just got jumped within the school has me riddled with questions. What the hell could someone have done to piss that many people off? But then again, that whole group is always looking and instigating trouble. Looking down at this girl in my arms, I notice fairly quickly that she is drop-dead gorgeous. Tanned skin, with small freckles dotting her cheeks. Soot black hair that shines in the sunshine, almost giving off a blue hue. I can't see her eyes but her lashes lay against her rosy cheeks. And I can tell just by holding her that she is curvy. I get into the pack hospital and the doctor looks at me with a small and pitiful smile. This is how all the adults look at me. Ever since last year, when the rogues attacked. "Nice to see Lazarus." He quickly redirects his attention to the girl in my arms, and his face pales, and is appalled by her condition. "What the hell happened to her?" He growls. He is one of the biggest advocates of abuse of anyone. And seeing this girl like this probably has his wolf in a rage. "I walked out to some of the high school kids jumping her. I will be dealing with them once I know she is okay and is waking up. I don't want her to wake up alone in here not having anyone checking on her." I say, trying to steal as many glances at her face as I can. "Well, from just looking at her and how she is breathing, her ribs are broken. One of her shoulders looks dislocated and you can see her eye swelling and both of her lips are busted. I will need to keep her for a day or two to watch for signs of brain swelling and bleeding. I see the blood on your arm so she has a head wound that we have to assess now, so here. Lay her on the bed." He says pointing to a room just to the left of us. A couple of nurses walk in and start hooking her to machines. I just grab a chair and sit with my chin resting on my knuckles. Something about this whole situation doesn't sit well with me. I am all for handling business directly, and settling disputes man to man. But there were at least three males and two females attacking her at once. What the f**k happened? I need to get to the bottom of this. If I am going to be Alpha one day, then I need to handle these small, but somewhat big disputes without anyone else stepping in. There is one of the guys I know personally that runs in my circle. But at this rate, I don't want him in the same room as her. Cause if he attacks her in my presence I'll kill him. 'Seth, mind link Malcolm and have him meet me in the hospital. If I do it, I am liable to Alpha command him to punch himself in the face until he is unconscious.' I chuckle slightly at that visual. Seth doesn't respond but I know he got the message. He is a good Beta with a lot of wisdom and my best friend. If he doesn't answer then that means he is working on whatever I have asked of him. "The gash on the back of her head will need to be stitched, and we will have to monitor her but she should recover well. But there is a problem, Lazarus." He says furrowing his brow together. I give him the 'well f*****g tell me' look and he proceeds with a sigh. "She doesn't have her wolf yet but she should still be healing quicker than she is right now. And she's just not. I will need to get her name and figure out her age but she looks like she should be getting her wolf soon. So this gash should've been halfway closed right now and she is healing as fast as a human does." Which means like a turtle. I sigh. Just another thing to add to the list of things going wrong for this girl. "I will have Seth bring me her file from the packhouse. Your boy is coming here to speak with me about this incident." I say as I make my way to the bed, brushing her hair from her sleeping face. The purple surrounding her eyes should've been a yellow by now, even without your wolf. Trust me, I have broken enough bones in my life to be able to test that theory. "Malcolm? What for?" He asks, his face turning red and his ears getting even redder. He is just waiting for me to confirm what he already thinks. "He was one of the people in the group attacking her. I don't know why but I will be finding out very shortly." He is pissed. He is growling and could easily shift right now. "My son, of all people, was attacking this young girl?? WHAT THE f**k FOR?" He growls. I can't blame him. If it were my kid, I'd be just as pissed. "I don't know. I don't even know her name, which is terrible since I will be the next Alpha. I should be remembering everyone's name but I have no idea who she is." I am a little embarrassed by that truth. But I'll never lie. "There is never a reason someone should be attacked like this. I don't care who they are. But you also have to realize, Lazarus. We are a pack of eight hundred wolves. That is entirely too many people to keep up with. Especially when you are ensuring their safety, you won't be able to be involved in everyone's life." I sigh. I know he is right, and he puts his hand on my shoulder, comforting us both. I hear the girl start coughing slightly, and stirring. When I whip my head to look at her, her black eye is gone. That's f*****g weird. "Uhh... Wher-re am I?" She says, squinting against the light in the room. "You're in the hospital... I brought you here after you were.. attacked." I watch her reaction. She doesn't seem surprised. But then her eyes stop squinting and adjust. And now she is in shock. "I shouldn't be here. Neither of you should be treating me. You'll get in trouble for this if you do." She whimpers. Which causes my heart to break. "Honey, everyone who is a part of this pack is allowed to be healed. We have never been given any orders to withhold care from ANYONE." Doctor Morris says with a small smile. "It doesn't matter if the order was verbally given. You can't treat the child with traitor blood." She exhales as if this has been how she has been living her whole life in the pack. She quickly starts unhooking the wires and machines that are monitoring her body. "I have to go before the Alpha finds out about this. Neither of you can get into trouble because of me." She says as she places her feet on the floor near me. Nearly falling as soon as she stands. "You aren't going anywhere. And if the Alpha has anything to say about us treating you because of 'traitor blood', whatever that means, then we will deal with him. Now, get your ass back in that bed." I say, moving the hospital blankets, so she can climb back in. She eyes me warily like she doesn't know who I am. Or if she can trust me. But I guess in her circumstances she probably doesn't trust many. "Alright, but it's your death sentence." She sighs and then giggles. "Or all of ours." But her beautiful laugh quickly fades away when she locks eyes with someone at the door of her room. "What the f**k do you want, meathead?" She growls out. And I can't help but burst into laughter. But I am the only one laughing. Doctor Morris is ready to attack. "He's here to explain to me why they were attacking you. I didn't know when you would wake up, so I had him sent here." I look over at her and she is eyeing him, ready to attack. "What is your name? I'm sorry I don't know it." "Melanie Forbes." She then looks at me and blushes. "And you are?" I laugh again. I like that she doesn't know my name, but I have to tell her now. "Lazarus." I stick my hand out for her to shake it and feeling her small but callous hand slide into mine feels nice. "Now that introductions have been made, Malcolm state your case before your dad executes you." I smile and sit down next to Melanie's bed. His color is draining as we speak and he looks at Melanie with so much hatred as if it is her fault that she is here. "You told them I hurt you?" He growls, turning red. But before he can say another word, Doctor Morris punches him right across the face. "I didn't say a damn word, you buffoon. I just woke up from my little daytime nap." Melanie rolls her eyes. The punch did not even phase her. "You hit a f*****g woman?? That's not how I raised you!!" Doctor Morris is livid. "Doctor, give us a minute. I promise, you can deal the punishment as you see fit. I think the wrath of a pissed dad, who has a grudge against abuse and medical background to cover it up will be MUCH scarier than the Alpha or his son." I laugh. Doctor Morris nods and exits the room to take a breather. "Now, where were we Malcolm," I say sinisterly. Even though I won't deal the punishment, I still want to instill some fear.
