Chapter Three: Under The Blood Moon

1059 Words
DACIANA’S POV As “tradition” demanded I was carried around the whole town for people to look upon me as the chosen sacrifice. It felt like a death parade. Only this parade didn't have cheers and celebrations. Just whispers and murmurs. “Oh what a shame” “Maybe it's punishment for killing her own parents.” “How ironic. Are they sure giving up this cursed child for a sacrifice won't anger the Alpha more?” At this point I hated humans more than the Alpha himself did. Even my own aunt was happy to see me go. The whole hag must've been praying for this very moment. I was dressed in a long flowing black gown with markings drawn on my hands and legs. It felt like a ritual. I was disgusted to say the least. After the death parade the elders took me to the Bloodfang Kingdom. The blood moon shown brightly casting crimson light all over the kingdom. It was the most beautiful sight I had ever seen. It would be my last. “Why are you so slow? You're not here for sightseeing!”. The elders scolded me and the guards dragged me by my chains violently. I yelped in pain but quickly regained myself and followed them quickly. The Alpha's Palace was huge. I had heard stories of how it was built over 500 human labourers several centuries ago. The craftsmanship was amazing. Everything was carved and cut to perfection. The tapestry on the walls were said to have been done by famous artisans. The rumours of this place didn't do it justice at all. The elders voice brought me out of my daze. “Follow the guard. He'll take you to where you'll be offered to the Alpha”. The elder said while giving the chain to one of the guards. I had never seen a werewolf up close. I read about them a lot. I knew of they're different types. The Alpha, the Lycan , the beta and so on. This one was most definitely a beta. He had sharp eyes and I could see his fangs sticking out of his mouth. If you didn't look so closely you'd think he was a human. When the guard saw me closely he looked surprised and confused. “Sh-she is the sacrifice?”. He spoke up in bewilderment. “Yes, if she wasn't she wouldn't be here. There's not much time left. We wouldn't want to anger the Alpha”. The elder said and turned around to leave. “And Daciana” . He said before he left. “Do not put up a fight in front of the Alpha. Just let him do whatever he wants with you. I doubt he'd actually use you for anything but just in case.”. His words were cold and almost mocking. He left without another word, the community guards following him from behind. I turned to the guard who was still staring at me. “Aren't you going to take me away? We haven't got all day. I want this to be over”. He was shocked by my words and my will to actually be a sacrifice. He must've been used to sobbing and begging. He didn't say anything and just turned to walk with the chains in his hands. He led me through the hollow halls of the palace. You could hear a pin drop with the dead silence that surrounded it. But I felt strange. Every maid or servant we passed stared at me like I wasn't real. This definitely wasn't their first time seeing a human sacrifice so why were they so shocked. I brushed it off, werewolves were rumoured to have weird behaviours. We soon arrived at two large doors. I could hear chattering from the other side of the door. I gulped. “This was it”. He opened the two doors and I followed suit behind him. The room wasn't a room, it looked more like a court. The crimson red colour from the blood moon illuminated the room slightly giving it the eerie feel. There were people seated on high seats surrounding a throne, the Alpha's throne. I couldn't even look up at him. His aura alone was intimidating, I wondered what gazing upon him would feel like. “Members of the council. Your highness, Alpha Lucian. The human sacrifice is here. He said and brought me forward. I fell to the ground trembling. I didn't dare look up yet. I thought this would be easy but the fear in my heart made my whole body quake. I was ready for it. Ready for my death but now I didn't want to go. I didn't want to die. But there was no escaping. I could be afraid all I wanted but I knew this was the end. I braced myself for whatever was going to happen next. They'd probably do a ritual before killing me or something. I took a deep breath and looked up. The court fell silent. Whispers and murmurs erupted. Everyone looked at me in shock. “It can't be” “Is she? No it's not possible” Again with this? What was going on with these people? My gaze then shifted to the Alpha. The rumours made him out to be a cold hearted monster who fed on the very fear of the colonies he had conquered and the people he ruled over. But when our eyes met he looked at me like he had known me before. Like I was a ghost that had been haunting him. Time seemed to stand still when he gazed upon me. I couldn't explain it, I felt drawn towards him. Was this normal? He stood up from his throne, his mouth agape. “It's really you isn't it?”. He said, his voice trembling. I looked at him confused. What was he talking about? All I wanted was to get this over with. I looked away from him and my eyes caught the executioner coming with his huge sword. I took another deep breath. This was it. I braced myself for the impact of the sword when suddenly the Alpha's voice resounded in the court like thunder. “Get away from her!”. Wait? What?
