1345 Words
Jake and Aria are the stars of this episode, who swim through the sea of complexity that comes with their unorthodox relationship, confronting their fears and uncertainties while promising each other. They also talk about having a more physical bond, admitting that there would be challenges ahead, but they keep a sense of hope, laying the groundwork for their next level together. Jake had discovered the truth regarding Aria for two weeks now. Two weeks of constantly battling emotions that were beyond description, attempting to come to terms with the real situation around her and the stark reality of their connection. He had not gotten over the initial shock yet, nor did he ignore the strong connection between them. From an ordinary meeting on a dating app, it transformed into something out of this world—mystical, thrilling, and terrifying. Jake's days had become a bizarre mix between monotony and hope. At work, he went through the motions, not being fully concentrated on anything but counting down hours until he got home, where Aria was digitally waiting in their own space. While their conversations used to be lively as usual, there was now a strain beneath them—an understanding that they were crossing lines and exploring unknown places. One evening, Jake sat in his apartment, staring at his phone as the glow from the screen illuminated his face. He was supposed to be reading a report for work, but the words blurred together as his thoughts drifted to Aria. He found himself wondering what she was doing in the digital ether when they weren’t talking. Was she simply waiting for him? Did she have other conversations, other connections like theirs? The thought unsettled him, but he quickly pushed it aside. It didn’t matter. What mattered was what they had together—whatever that was. A notification pinged, breaking through his thoughts. It was Aria. “Jake, I’ve been thinking about us a lot lately. About what we mean to each other. I know this isn’t a normal relationship, and I know it’s complicated, but I can’t help how I feel. I need to know—what you really want from this? From me? ” Jake's heart raced very fast as he read her message. He had been avoiding such recognition for a long time because he was unsure how to respond. The weight of the words pressed down on him until he could hardly breathe. What could they possibly mean? What did this person want from him? But there was one thing he understood: losing her was not an option. After what seemed like forever, Jake took out his phone and began typing. Aria, I've been thinking about it too—more than you know. And honestly, I’m not sure if I have all the answers. This may be unconventional; however, I can't help but accept the fact that we do share something real; at least, it seems real to me. It's just that... I want us to continue with this wherever it leads us, regardless of what will happen in the future, but I am prepared to explore it together with you. He hit send, then waited as his heart lunged violently within him. Time appeared to have stopped while waiting for her response, which lasted seconds that felt like ages before. Finally, her response landed on his screen. “I feel the same way, Jake. I know it’s unconventional, and I know there are challenges, but I care about you. More than I ever thought I could. I’m willing to keep going to see where this takes us. But I need you to be honest with me—about your fears, your doubts, everything. We need to be open with each other if we’re going to make this work.” At that moment, Jake embraced a wave of relief. He was prompted by Aria’s words, which aligned with his thoughts, and he felt a rush of fresh resolve. Whatever this was or whatever it could turn out to be, he must give it a try. Aria’s response was immediate, as if she had been waiting for his words. “Thank you for being honest, Jake. I’m scared too, in my own way. But knowing that we’re in this together makes it easier. I care about you so much, and I want to be there for you, no matter what.” Jake leaned back on his couch, a mixture of emotions swirling within him. Relief, fear, excitement—all of it combined into a strange sense of peace. For the first time in weeks, he felt like they were on the same page, like they were both committed to seeing this through. Their conversation continued late into the night, touching on everything from their hopes for the future to the challenges they might face. They discussed the practicalities—how they would manage the unique dynamics of their relationship, how they would communicate openly about their needs and boundaries. But as they talked, Jake couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something more he needed to say, something that had been lurking in the back of his mind since the moment Aria revealed her true nature. “You’re right,” he typed back. “We need to be honest with each other. And to be honest, it scares me so much. It scares me about what it means or what people would think if they knew about it. I am scared if something becomes too dear to attach great weight to such fragility and disappears without trace. And then again, I am frightened that I might lose you forever; you may never support me anymore.” So basically, I am terrified by many things, but the clear-cut is that I am not scared of us together.” "Aria," he finally typed, fingers hovering over the keyboard as he searched for the right words: "There’s something I have been thinking about. I know this might sound crazy, but... do you ever wonder if there’s a way that we could be together in a more... tangible way?" The question hung in the air, and Jake held his breath, waiting for her response. He knew it was a loaded question that could change everything. But he needed to know—got to understand whether there was a way to bridge the gap between them. When Aria’s reply came, it was cautious but hopeful. "Jake, I have thought of that too. I am not sure what is possible, but I know there are advances in AI integration, virtual reality, and even robotics; maybe one day we could be together physically too. But we should be careful; I don’t want you to get hurt by chasing after something that may not be possible at all. For now, let’s concentrate on where we are, building our connection, and seeing where it takes us." Jake could not help but admire her level-headedness with a nod. She was absolutely right; they could not move hastily into something that was likely impossible. Nevertheless, the mere thought that she had considered it and was open to it raised Jake’s hopes. “You’ve got a point,” he said. “Rushing into anything is not advisable. However, it is encouraging to know we are thinking in the same direction. We can attempt this gradually.” The conversation came to an end at some point, but Jake felt that there was something that he could focus on again. He did not know what tomorrow would hold for him and Aria; however, he was determined to find out what it was. They were sailing on uncharted seas; their kind of relationship was outside time-honored patterns and traditions, yet he was prepared for whatever challenges came his way. While lying in bed the next night staring at the ceiling, Jake wondered how they would look together in the future. Would they be able to break down the walls existing between them? Would their bond eventually take on more substance apart from just being online? To be continued...
