EVELYN’S POV
My fingers shivered and I could feel my body visibly shaking “Professor Reeds” I heard from behind, not turning to look, I wiped the tear which had trickled down my eye, with the back of my palm.
“Yes” I answered with the most normal voice I could muster, turning to him, his face etched with concern.
“Are you alright?” He asked, almost placing his arm on my shoulder
I pulled back, taking a few hard breaths, I forced a smile.
“I’m fine Elroy, don’t you need to freshen up and have dinner?” I asked with an awkward stare
knots already formed in my stomach, causing all thoughts of even a decent meal go down the drain.
“It doesn’t look like you're fine” he towered over me “If you don’t want to have dinner, or you feel unwell, I can get a driver to take you home” he offered, at the sound of it, I almost yelled a solid NO.
“N..no it’s fine, it’s alright, I’m okay to tutor her. Don’t worry about me!” I shot back, turning away from him completely but just as I tried to move, I felt his grasp on my arm, pulling me aside.
“You really don’t have to put up a wall for me” he searched my eyes for something, a confirmation
I pushed him off, fury in my eyes, trying so hard not to put my hand across his face.
“Don’t you ever do that again” I warned, walking off.
With the help of a maid, I found my way to the dining room. Chloe was already seated, her hand on the seat next to herself, indicating that I should stay there.
I stared at the almost empty room with a rather small dining table.
“Your parents aren’t joining us?” I inquired, taking my seat right next to her.
“No, they aren’t here” she paused “Didn’t brother tell you that they left for an event this morning and will only be present tomorrow?” She asked
I shook my head in response, signaling that I knew nothing about ig
“I hope that doesn’t make you uncomfortable?” She asked again “Brother and I will keep you company during and after the lesson” she smiled, her light brown eyes shimmering in the properly lit dining room.
After dinner, I ventured into the study where our class would be held, just as I looked over the materials we would be using, I heard footsteps
“Please Chloe, I would have been pleased if your lesson had begun earlier” I said without looking
There wasn’t any response, but that citrusy scent told me who was in the room.
“My sister has the habit of having to freshen up right after a meal” he explained in a low baritone, his casual fit accentuating his perfect body build.
“Oh, then I wouldn’t have had dinner, it’s really late” I sighed
If I had known, there was no reason for me not to refuse and find a hotel to stay for the night, now it’ll be even much more difficult to do that.
I turned to the window, there were droplets of rain splattered across.
“But she didn’t mean for this to happen, I can always drive you home when you’re done” he suggested.
“That wouldn’t be necessary” I said quickly, staring down at the revised notes in my hand.
“You’re avoiding me, you’ve been doing this all day” he moved forward, his voice barely above a whisper
He leaned closer, I didn’t look up, instead. My eyes stayed glued to the book and then the ground.
“Im not” I answered flatly. “Why would I?”
I tried to move away but his body found it’s way of cornering me to a spot, my eyes finally met his
“You might want to avoid me but I can’t keep myself away from you" he started
I felt his hand on my waist, my breath hitched, what if someone sees us together?
I pushed his hand away from me, almost walking off when his grip went for my arm again, we had already been through this today
“Tell me something professor” he whispered, his fingers tracing my skin “Why are you scared of me, of my touch?” That was absurd.
“I am not scared of you, I just don’t want someone getting the wrong idea” I explained
I found myself whispering and he had cornered me to the wall. His hands were on my waist and the other, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.
“But I don’t care about someone getting the wrong idea” he whispered, his eyes lingering on my lips “In truth, I don’t care about what anyone thinks” he said pressing his lips onto mine softly
He pulled me into his space with one arm as the other cupped my face, taking me back to the first kiss we shared.
“Miss Reeds” I heard from upstairs, I pushed him off, letting him stagger as I wiped off my lips again.
“Yes Chloe” I answered.
“Can we take the lesson in my room instead?” She asked softly even when it felt like a statement.
I stared at the smile on Elroy’s face and headed up the stairs, I needed to be away from him.
I lunged up the stairs without looking back even when I could feel that his eyes solemnly watched me.
After our lesson, Chloe smiled as usual, packed up her books and waved. I got a text on my phone, it was from Anya ‘Wherever you are, stay there, right now, it’s not safe to roam around’ the text read.
I stared at the clock in her room, it was almost 10pm.
“Miss Reeds I hope you’re not planning on leaving this late” she said, I turned to look at her with a look of confusion “I kept you all night, you can stay with us for the night” she paused, pulling out her phone “I asked my father and he accepted to let you stay for tonight since it’s my fault you had to be here” she chuckled.
“No…there’s no need for me to impose” I protested
“Please Miss Reeds, I insist” she walked towards me, holding my hand “It’s pouring out there, the drivers aren’t here and I can’t let you go at night” she persisted.
“I can call an Uber” I suggested sharply.
“No need for that” Elroy said from the door, he shook the key in his hand “I can take you home”
His lips curled into a smile whilst my eyes held his gaze angrily, yet he never flinched, I swear I think this man will be the death of me.
