EVELYN’S POV Suddenly I felt sweat dripping down my forehead and my lips wouldn’t move, my brain felt scrambled as I tried to speak. “Recently we haven’t had much tests to go by, so evaluation hasn’t been thorough” I responded, trying to steady my shaky voice, he didn’t look at me, his eyes stayed on his wife who was now straightening his bow tie. They did look like the most perfect couple, endearing and loving. “Hmm” he gruntled “You wanted to say something, you can speak” he urged me but I didn’t have the heart to ask for what I wanted, I mean, it’s unprecedented, I haven’t even tutored her for upto a month, asking for an advance might be a bad idea, especially with complains of Elroy. “I just wanted to say that Chloe is improving at such a rapid rate” I cleared my throat “She’s been doing quite well” “I’ve noticed that as well, her professor graded the latest essays she turned in and it went well” he smiled, the faint one that didn’t reveal any canines. “I’ll be on her with lesson now” I dismissed myself, placing my hands on my temple as I walked because my plan had failed, but I really need to leave that motel with Anya, Melvin has finally caught up with me and he’s dragging her into this. “What are you thinking about?” I heard his subtle baritone from behind, his hand reaching for my waist, quickly, I swerved to the side, avoiding his hands. I didn’t notice that I had paused to think in the hallway. “Nothing” I answered sharply “I..uh..have to get to the study” I tried to move past him but he blocked me, his large frame towering over me. “What are you doing? Get out of my way” I said softly, I’d hate to alarm his parents who aren’t out yet and try explaining what a bind I’m in with their son. “I’m not leaving until you tell me what it is” he responded, his body countering my movements and plans of escape. “Do you want your parents to see?” I peeked to check if anyone was coming, thankfully they weren’t and then I heard the sound of the car leaving. “They’re gone” he breathed, leaning closer to me, his citrusy scent filling my lungs “Come on, talk to me, I can’t handle your silence” “Soon you’ll have to handle my absence as well if you don’t get out of the way” I warned, he looked at me with a low gaze, indicating his sadness, I couldn’t care, this wasn’t meant to be, better to keep him at arms length. He moved slightly, letting me pass through “Thank you” I mumbled, rushing down to the study for our lesson. **** Our lessons never exceeded two hours but I had found myself loving every bit of her questions as they made us bond and learn but then our conversation was interrupted by a knock on the door frame, it was him. “Isn’t it past your tutoring time miss Reeds?” Elroy smiled, his arms folded as he leaned on the frame, his biceps bulging through the black button down shirt he had on, he seemed to be heading somewhere but why would I care? I turned to look at my phone, it was already 8:40, he was right “Shoot” I mumbled and turned to Chloe, her eyes gleaming with excitement “I have to leave now, okay” “But miss Reeds” she tried to protest. “I can’t stay the night” I knew what she was going to say “We’ll have more lessons in the weekend, hmm” I said, picking up my things when my phone suddenly fell to the ground with my schedules and books. “I’ll get a car and driver ready for you then” she said, rushing out. “No..Chloe don’t” “Save your breath” He chuckled, reaching down to pick up my stuff as did I “She never listens to anyone, I’m even suprised she has a soft spot for you” he continued, his smile widening. I paused to stare at his face, he always looked good, his eyes holding nothing but happiness “Miss Reeds” he called out, startled, I stared down and picked up the rest of my things. This wasn’t right, I knew it. “Thank you” I muttered, taking my bag, I rushed through the door to see Chloe next to a car, hee hand gesturing that I get in. “You really didn’t have to” I smiled, she did the same before rushing back inside. I got into the front passenger seat, awaiting a driver. But I noticed Elroy get into the driver’s seat “Wh..what’s going on?” I asked in a startled state “Why are you driving?” “My sister set you up” he chuckled “She said there would be no better driver than me and I cannot disagree” he started the car. “But, no” I fumed, it was of no use, he had already started driving. I stayed silent in the car, my arms folded over my seatbelt, then he handed me something, my schedule note “Here” he said, one hand on the wheel, another holding the book. “Thanks” He had driven to an extent when I asked that he make a turn and drop me off, instead he drove past my turn “What are you doing?” I asked, looking back at the turn “That’s the road to my destination!” I yelled. He stopped the car “That’s the road to the motel, do you want to tell me what’s going on?” He asked. “There’s nothing to tell you! You’re my student okay, not my sponsor” I answered, trying to pry the door open, it didn’t work, it was locked shut. “Open this damn door! I’ll scream!” “You’re been stalked aren’t you?” His question sent a shiver down my spine and I paused, my body jittery “And you took this job to secure a better place, did you not? A place that make you safe, right?” He asked, I didn’t answer, I wasn’t sure if it was because I was embarrassed or something else. “I..I don’t know what you’re talking about” I stuttered, then I felt my phone buzz, I stared at the message. ‘No one hides from me Evie’
